I…read moreonly call the cab company directly to make reservations since I've heard mediocre reviews that if the reservation is booked through their app, the complaint has been the driver does not show up so I will continue to call the cab company directly to ensure my reservation is confirmed - they will send me a text. They also will send me the driver's name and I can track the driver whereabouts for pickup. One thing I don't like about the billing is that I will do the credit card prepayment in advance and to include the tip and the driver says the tip is not included in the prepayment. I wish the Green Cab & Yellow Cab of Somerville would give the customer a breakdown of the actual charge and the tip. So going forward, I will only do credit card prepayment for the trip and pay the tip in cash to the driver so my tip is not being charged twice. Otherwise my experience has been very good with the cab company.

The old cab companies rarely (and often randomly) took credit cards, used "some cranky elderly person" as their dispatch system, and almost never had a GPS (using your phone to give turn-by-turn instructions to your cabbie = FAIL). Recently, though, I needed to hire a cab for a non-techie someone else so they could pay for it and get a receipt on the spot for reimbursement, so I decided to give this new local company a try. It was to be a proper test for them, as I called at 5am about a 5:30 pickup to the airport, and was trusting them with my rural-ish mother, who's squeamish about dirt and even the slightest hint of rudeness. Happily, they were completely AWESOME. The person on the phone was courteous; they sent a text-message confirming my pick-up time and address about five minutes after I hung up; and they were here dead on time. I deliberately hadn't mentioned the very reasonable flat rate to the airport that they mention on their site, to give them the opportunity to "forget" to give it to us; but they rang it up that way unasked. And Mom says the cab was sparkling clean ("it smelled of lemons; very nice") and the driver was super friendly the whole way. Nice job, Kido!
