Hey we all think DIY is easy. A lot of the time for me it is. Had a laundry tub that needed a new faucet installed. Of course, I went to turn the water off on the cheap shutoff that came with my house when built and it wouldn't stop leaking! It was a Saturday so I was hesitant on calling a plumber. I called and the dispatcher informed me I had the diamond plan and it would be 30 something dollars for the call. I booked the call and I got a call from the technician Kyle. He came out explained these valves always leak (my house is 22 years old) I never turned these valves, ever. Kyle was not only professional, but very friendly and explained his every move. I recently purchased a new home and the previous owners had used Meares Plumbing and recommended them. I was having a few minor issues with the hot water and had some questions about the water softening and filtration systems that they had previously installed. Paul the tech arrived right on time, was very professional and answered all my questions. He performed multipletests to confirm that things were working correctly. Grossly overpriced. They charge $69 to show up and give an estimate, so you're in a bad position to say no for needed work. Their estimate for electrical work was double what I paid another vendor, who operates on an hourly basis. I would not recommend this vendor. read more

We went with Meares Plumbing to do an entire replumb of our home. The entire process went smoothly, and the staff was great!

I previously would have told you this was a great company with reasonable rates. I signed up for their Diamond club membership which promises a yearly evaluation that they will call you about. They did not do that. However, this last time that they came out they had changed their pricing and they now go by a "book". So to install my faucet (that I bought with all its parts) and my sink (that I bought with all its parts) was $1500 (which included flooding the kitchen because they forgot to turn off the water main.) The faucet did not work as it was supposed to and to replace it with a similar faucet would be $900. And that was with the discount that I paid for with my diamond club membership of $100 a year! What is worse, you cannot get an estimate over the phone of what it would cost to install anything. I should've gone with a handyman to replace the sink and faucet. And if I really do need a plumber, I would save money by the handfuls by hiring someone else. read more

I knew it was going to be $69 for them to come out, but they were recommend by my sister. We were having issues with our water smelling. They said they would come take a look, test for iron and hard water and take a look. The guy came in turned the water on and asked to verify the smell, then went out to his truck for 23 minutes, which is verifiable on my security camera, came back in and said water needed to be tested at the county and is another $89. Fine. Test it. I have kids. He didn't know how long it would take but would call me back. No word. Called the next day, the office gal said she would give him a message. No call. Lets just say, my appointment was on 02/04/25 and I'm writing this reveiw 02/14, and I've yet to have anyone return my calls. I took a water sample to the county and asked if they had anything in their system for my address and they confirmed they did NOT. Also, samples have to be submitted the same day before 11AM, per the county water department, he got the sample at 12:37. Awful company. I was dumb and wrote them a check and now I can't even dispute it with my bank. I'm submitting fraud reports everywhere I can, and will consider small claims just on the sheer principal of it. read more

Meares plumbing was selected as a TECO contractor to install a hot water heater for their replacement program. Beware the TECO program only includes a small 40 gallon tank. I was informed that the largest tank they would install in the program was a 50 gallon in which I'd have to pay an additional up front payment of $100. I agreed. The install went smoothly. It was an AO Smith product. Fast forward 1.5years. The tank had a pressure valve failure flooding my garage. It was a Sunday. I called their number and of Cousteau nobody home. Left an emergency voicemail. One week later, NO call back. Poor service. Unit is under warranty as well. I had to call AO Smith and try to fix it myself. In my opinion, Mears is unreliable. I would not use them again nor recommend using them. read more

Spring Hill,, Florida.. We had a leaking bathtub faucet that he replaced. The faucet doesn't leak but the repair is very amateur using caulk to fill spaces between the faucet plate and the tile. Shabby looking. He changed it from a two handle faucet to a single handle faucet which was a poor decision. Excessive caulk around spout and back plate. read more

By far the most incompetent plumbers around, they do the work for Taylor Morrison home building company. We had a water softener loop installed and they didn't secure the line so the water leaked into the walls, pictures to prove. The kitchen garbage compactor is leaking, every plumbing fixture in my house needs to be fixed/Adjusted. The faucets in the 2 tubs are not secured, held with caulking. Every single sink faucet is crooked and the handles are not aligned. The knob for the water in the island is right under the spicket, so when you turn it on your hand gets soaked. Toilet bowls aren't straight, who wants to face a wall when they sit on a toilet. If you want quality work look elsewhere. read more

We have had problems with hot water heaters since Meares installed it for builder in our new home last year. We had to have Meares come out last fall, water was not as hot as supposed to be at faucet. Took 2 techs coming out (finally sent a supervisor) to find out that one of the elements were burned out. Supervisor also seen they had installed it wrong (water inlet and water line to house was backwards). Meares had also failed to install hose bibb missing vacuum breaker per county code. Supervisor switched 2 line and installed missing piece. A year later, same issues with hot water heater, will not warranty their work or screw ups. Wants to charge me $70 for call plus labor for something still under warranty. read more

Couldn't use Meares Plumbing. I needed two faucets changed and when I called for a quote (I would settle for a reasonable estimation) they said I needed to pay a $69 service charge for a technician to come out and give me a quote. So basically they could quote a totally insane price and you get to pay for the pleasure. They must have plenty of business. read more

I came home from a business trip only to learn our hot water heater had bit the dust. My husband researched switching to tankless, and Meares was one of the TECO recommended partners. He was able to schedule for the very next day and even bump up our time that same day. The gentlemen they sent to our residence were extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and patient as they saw the job through and answered all of our questions. They will definitely be at the top of my list for future plumbing needs - lets just hope there won't be any hot water heater purchases for another several years!!! read more

Very disappointing. Used Meares for service on several properties. Got good service at fair prices and then. Called on a Leaking water main issue. I though the problem was more serious than it turned out to be. What I thought was an estimate for 3 hours work turned out to be an hour and half of work, half hour of stalling and BS, then billed for three hours. Finding Plumbers in the Tampa area that don't try to rip you off or overcharge is very difficult, This one tried to sneak in an extra hour . So now I have to find another Plumber. On January 29th, Meares replaced my old traditional water heater with a hybrid electric water heater quickly and without any issues. It works great and I was very pleased with the service I received. The staff all seemed friendly and knowledgeable. No hidden costs, either, which I liked. I'd definitely recommend them to others. In contrast, I had originally requested a quote from one of their competitors (R.J. Kielty) for a hybrid / heat-pump water heater. The person they sent knew anything about this style of water heater, which wasted my time and left me frustrated. I then contacted the general manager for that location via email, to let him know about my experience. I never heard back. If you're on Yelp looking through the reviews because you are having trouble deciding, just go with Meares... You won't be disappointed. read more

I have used them in 2 homes over the past few years . And today was the last time . I had an exfoliating glove go down the drain as well as a lighter, both were in a tub tray that fell over and before I could grab everything those items slipped down the drain. Mears wanted over 550.00 and wanted me to sign up for diamond service for 8 dollars a month to save 30 dollars and print a 20 dollar coupon. I asked them to work with me during this difficult time where no one is working ( including them according to the techs) the manager said they didn't quote enough and I should be paying close to 700.00 but they would honor the first quote . I said no thank you and I won't be calling again . I did however call Plumbing Today and they fixed the issue for 99.00 I sent Mears the check I made out to them and said I was so glad I didn't let them gouge me . I was hired for a position in their Sarasota office two weeks ago. I reported to work on time and ready to work. I was instructed to sit down and wait for the contact who had hired me. After being there less then three minutes I was called in to the Hiring Manager's office. There he talked to me as if I just showed up out of the blue and had this idea I had a job, he didn't interview me I spent over two hours on the phone with two different people just before Memorial Day weekend. I got a call two Fridays ago asking me when I could report to work. Being that I work one full time position and one part time position, I quit my full time position on the promise of a new job with a new company. I have plenty of years experience in the Service world, including Electrical, Plumbing and Heating and Cooling. The human resource manager was so rude and disrespectful. Informing me that he had hired someone for the position and they started training the next day. He talked to me like I was someone that was ignorant and shouldn't have even the qualifications for the job. I didn't make the choice to hire me, another part of the management team had done that. The worst of it was I drove over 2 hours to get there, which was my time and my gas. So not only did I spend time with the interviewers on the phone, I also spend four hours on the road and back to the training location. He told me he would pay for my gas, how insulting. You know if he had sounded sincere about the mix up maybe I would have felt better about the whole situation. I turned down interviews the last part of the week before I started the position and left a full time position to have been promised an opportunity. I felt disrespect and was totally heart broken. Right now its hard to get a decent job and I had quit one to go to work at Meares, only to be informed that there was no job for me. I work hard, I am a great employee and respectful of all who I come in contact with each day. At the end of the day it wasn't about not having a job it was how I was treated. To the HR person, you have no tact, to but it lightly your a complete DICK I could of used other words to describe you crappy attitude. You should have taken it out on the people who hired me. NOT ME. I spend hour after hour looking for a great place to work, this was not a place I even would consider after the brief encounter. To the Owner and Operator of Meares you definitely need someone else new running your HR department. I am glad I found out what he was all about. So I put my feet solidly on ground and walk forward. I called Meares because they did a lot of work in our community. My problem was a tight shower valve that needed the cartridge replaced. It took the plumber about 30 minutes and they charged $321. My mistake for not asking the cost before he went to work. Never again!! That is just a plan ridiculous amount for what had to be done.. Beware!! read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS. They installed a tankless water heater that they don't understand. Two issues in only a month and doesn't work with my washing machine because it is "too new" - no hot water for laundry. They didn't know that the Navien unit ordered wouldn't work with new energy/water efficient laundry machines. Called me "very rude". I'm pissed off, wouldn't you be if you spent over $1600 for a unit that isnt compatible with your washing machine? Somehow, I was supposed to know this?!? I was very careful to ask a lot of questions before purchasing but I relied on them to educate me...that was my mistake for thinking they were "the experts". read more

The only reason for 2 stars is that the repair man was very nice and professional and did a good job. My problem is with the way a job is priced. Other companies I have dealt with charge a service fee but it is then applied to the repair. This company charges a service fee and then a repair fee at a set rate no matter what you have done or how long it takes. He replaced an $8.00 part and tightened 3 connections and my total bill was $140. It took him less than 10 minutes including the time it took to go back to his truck and get the part. If I wasn't 70 years old I could have managed myself. I won't be calling this company again. read more

A man named Jesse handled the job on an outside water pipe. He went above and beyond for me, even communicating with FGUA to resolve the problem. I chose meres plumbing based on reviews that were positive. I was charged close to $200 for a flapper and fill valve on my toilet. Because I was out of state I was forced to pay it, Because I physically couldn't go to my residence and fix it myself. So be aware you will be charged a service fee of $65 just for them to come out and $95 an hour for labor which is by far the highest in the state. Would not recommend this company to anyone nor would I ever use them again. read more

Meares Plumbing sent one plumber to give us a quote (that was better than the previous quotes by other plumbing companies). They sent a second plumber to offer us an upgrade option (UPsell) and begin the work we had requested. The second plumber discussed and received direction on how we wished the work to be done. He even drew up a second invoice concerning the work order and direction. After progress by the second plumber, Hillsborough County inspected our plumbing and made us aware of "requirements" necessary to complete final inspection. Meares plumbing sent the "first" plumber that offered the original bid, to complete the remainder of the job. This plumber (the original plumber) did a sub-par job "as he saw fit" rather than the agreed upon job by the second plumber. He questioned, in the invoice, the demand the Hillsborough county inspector required for final inspection. He notified Meares plumbing that the required venting wasn't necessary. Had he not done as we requested, our job would not have passed final inspection. Then, the original plumber couldn't locate the bid per the second plumber. He installed our equipment as was easiest for him instead of, as agreed upon by the second Meares plumber. We demanded the equipment be moved to the agreed location and after mouthing an attitude, he finally moved the equipment. He told us he had no record of additional work we had requested. After protest, the first Meares plumber located the invoice from the second Meares plumber. But again, he proceeded to do a sub-par job that was nothing like the job we agreed upon with the second plumber. The work we received looks like it was completed by a three year old. We're disgusted with the resultant job that Dan threw together. His work is less than respectable. If Meares sends him to do the work on your home...RUN! Dan is NOT the plumber you want working on your home! read more
