If you are going to pay specific attention to any one review of Winchester Park / Winchester Woods…read moreApartments in Riverside, RI, let this be the one review. I have been a resident of Winchester Park since 2000 and just recently gave my notice to vacate due to a relocation only. I have called Winchester Park home for almost 20 years. As I read through some of the reviews, especially the ones less than four/five stars, I would be remissed if I didn't respond. In my almost 20 years here I have been through blizzards, hurricanes, power outages, the occasional broken appliance or needed repairs, and just about anything else one can expect with living in the same place for as many years as I have. Having that, I can unequivocally assure anyone looking to rent at Winchester Park that their office staff and maintenance staff are the quintessential professionals. Everything boils down to realistic expectations. Example, in the event of a blizzard, of course someone's driveway and walk way is going to be first and someone's is going to be last, it is a rather large complex. However, maintenance is out and on the property as soon as safe clean up can begin plowing driveways and hand shoveling walkways. The same applies to hurricanes and tropical storms. Cleanup is instantaneously. In the event of the occasional power outage, well you are at the mercy on National Grid, however, you can be rest assured the Management Staff is on the phone with them and they are constantly sending updates when such an event should occur. Blizzards and Hurricanes are obviously not the norm, but I mention the above to illustrate that the management and maintenance staff at Winchester Park Apartments are prepared for everything, norm or not.
On to some of the everyday issues. In my almost 20 years I have had the occasional appliance fail and repair needed. I can assure you each time that my concerns were addressed in a very timely manner. Same rule applies here, you have to have realistic expectations. If you need a hole fixed or a repair maintenance can handle themselves, it will be done the same day. If it is something that needs a specialist (HVAC Repair man, etc.) it may take an extra day. Regardless, any concerns/issues I have had in all my years have always been rectified in a expeditious manner. When I moved here back in 2000 the current Property Manager Milena was one of the office staff Leasing Consultant that showed me my first apartment. Since then Milena has been promoted to the Property Manager and her office staff and maintenance department have not missed a beat. When you know someone personally for 20 years, you usually get a pretty understanding of that person's character. I can say without hesitation, Milena takes her job both seriously and personally. I can also say without hesitation, she cares deeply about the tenants and the community at Winchester Park.
To address some of the other reviews regarding pool closing, dog poop, etc. I will say just this. The pool is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, there is no longer any Life Guard to open/close pool. You swim at your own risk. Access is controlled by a magnetic key. The pool opens at 10am and closes at 8pm. The pool is usually closed by a assigned resident. Pool access is no longer an issue. It is now up to the tenants to adhere to the Pool Policies, such as limit of guest, accompanying young children, no alcohol, etc. As for the dog poop, I find almost some of the complaints laughable as somehow methodically it is the office staff or maintenance departments fault? We are grown adults, we are asked to pick up after our pets. If we do not have enough common decency for our fellow neighbors and our community than perhaps we don't belong in such a community? Milena and her staff are constantly sending email blast addressing these issues when they become a problem.
As for the rents, I am not going to get into a financial discussion but I will say, having been a resident again for almost 20 years, I find the rents fair and the increases to be along the lines of what could be expected. Yes there is a monthly common usage fee which includes water, trash, etc. but this fee is explained to you when you sign your lease. I don't get the complaints on this topic either. You can either pay a usage fee on a monthly basis which is shared amongst all tenants or you could get a flat fee added to your rent (which most likely would be rounded up). Budgeting 101 people?
In closing, I will reiterate that I am very pleased with my long time here at Winchester Park Apartments. Milena and her staff to me are second to none. Realistic expectations, a little common sense, and take ownership of what is expected of you and Winchester Park Apartments is a perfect community to live. I hope this fair and balanced review helps you when considering renting here.
