I have always thought very highly of the Med and Red Room; the food and drinks are usually of a high quality and very competitively priced, the service is quick and even when busy done with a smile. The staff I have found to be very friendly, polite and tentative, from mid day meal service right through to the early/late drinking hours of a Saturday night/Sunday morning.
The promotions nights or special nights, featuring acts and bands etc, are almost always jam packed and absolutely brilliant. Even the most ignorant of customers can see that a lot of time, effort and care are bestowed upon these nights, which are appreciated across the board; from students to the 9-to-5 workers.
The décor and layout are of a decent standard, with the Med accomplishing a skilled feeling of, cosy and warm on those chilly winter nights, when a hot meal and a few rounds with your mates is the only thing worth doing; contrasted with fresh light and airy feeling given on those long warm summer days, where nothing feels more right than chilling in the sun with a ice cold drink and a few mates.
The Red Room, gives a basic nightclub feel, dark with loud music. The Red Room boasts a: decent sized bar downstairs, cloakroom (which you are not forced to use; unlike some others clubs in Stirling that shall remain nameless), big dance-floor, adequate seating downstairs with more available upstairs and all-in-all a very good sound and light system.
The general housekeeping of the whole building inside and out, is very good. Tables are always clean with glass collectors working hard during the busy periods to ensure empties do not build up too much. The toilets are always very clean, and from past experiences on a Saturday nights, the gents have a toilet attendant, distributing: soaps, deodorant, mints and aftershave, with the brilliant catchphrase, No splash, no gash.
As good as I have always know The Med and Red Room to be, there has always been one problem with the whole establishment. The problem has for me ruined a few very good nights to the point where I now dread or avoid the pub and club as much as possible. The problem is, the security staff, not all of them but just a select few.
Having worked in pubs, clubs, restaurants and promotions, across the country for several years, I know only too well how difficult any job becomes when interacting with intoxicated people and more so groups of intoxicated people. Its fair to say being a doorman/floor staff/bouncer etc is no easy job.
A certain member of the security staff at The Med/Red Room, has (and I don't mean this lightly) one if the worst attitudes I have ever came across in my entire life. I have as part of my job travelled a lot, been in many pubs and clubs but without a doubt this individual takes the prize for being the most arrogant, cocky, pompous, insolent, puffed-up and disdainful person I have ever had the ill-pleasure of coming across. There really is not enough adjectives in the English language to describe how repugnant this person is.
To summarise briefly, The Med and Red Room are brilliant venues for parties, meals and good nights out. However if you do enjoy being spoken to like an actual human being get in before the door staff start their shift and avoid them at all costs.
5 Stars for The Med and the Red Room, minus 4 Stars for the poor excuse of a doorman.
1 Star Med, sorry! read more
