This is a review of the PT and Rehab facility at Bell Trace. the low rating has to do mostly with…read morethe management side of the facility. I do not recommend sending a loved one here for recovery. It is definitely understaffed and the food has a lot to be desired. My family member constantly had cold food, no condiments, totally lacking flavor, items. He was not on a restricted diet. The nurses and support staff were amazing though. They did their absolute best with what they were working with. My other concern was with communication. Getting through to a live person instead of answering machines was practically impossible. Again, a staffing issue. Weekends were horribly understaffed. 1 nurse to cover 20 plus patients is way too many, and also assist with meals?!

A friend needed post-hospitalization recovery and PT. They had space, and their facility is both…read moreclean, and politely staffed. The friend's experience was very good. As a care provider for the friend, I was also pleased. It's not a premium-cost facility (face it, there's a lot of expense needed), and their liaison with local doctors and healthcare facilities is pretty strong. There are long-term residents living in apartments and condos, but this is about services for non-ambulatory individuals recovering from acute illness. I found the staff responsive and helpful. Their food services are good, but this isn't The Ritz, and is certainly above fast food. Most helpful is the positive attitude of their staff. I've never heard a cross word there. My friend was there for a month, a long recovery. Others are there for longer/shorter stays. All seemed to be treated with the same high level of care. We were pleased.

Nursing directors here also change frequently. Although they call themselves an Alzheimer's Special Care Facility, they are quick to tell families that they must provide and pay for additional help when your loved one needs additional assistance such as eating, bathing, and just general attention. They are quick to send patients to behavioral hospitals when they feel that they are even remotely out of sorts. Any decent Alzheimer's facility would realize that this is part of the disease and that any changes in environment can have devastating and lasting effects on the patient. If you do decide to consider this facility, please spend an afternoon there and observe. They have also had several deaths due to falls of patients who were not properly supervised, respiratory infections and one from sepsis.

Instead, the receptionist talked to me to say she was there to help me instead but she didn't really know what the social worker and I spoke about and the reason of my visit. She said, "you just want resources" when the reason for my visit was to fill out paperwork. I already have all the literature from a previous visit. After I left, I called the receptionist to tell her that just blowing off an appt with a client is not acceptable, specially since they are in the business of caring and dealing with people under a lot of stress. My voice was stressed and I was upset but I wasn't screaming. She said, I can't scream at her or she'll hang up the phone, then before I can respond she hang up the phone. Where's the compassion and the professionalism that one should expect from an institution like this? I can just imagine how they treat patients staying there who have dementia and can't speak for themselves. One would think that they would treat the family decently at least until the patient is in so one if left to wonder how bad they get after that.
