In the cold months, the wind blows through the closed windows. One family member saw a roach nest in the library cart (a bunch of old books piled up in a mess). Most of the aides are very good, some seem rude at first, but once you are there for a while you realize they are completely overworked! There is not enough people to help the patients. The same for the nurses on the floor. They don't have time to breathe let alone answer any questions. Some of them are not even given enough information when they start their shift to properly treat patients. If you need a nursing supervisor, go to the nurses' station. Most of them will not even look at you and seem unwilling to interact with caring family members. If you have any questions or concerns, they will tell you they will get back to you with an answer or follow up with a doctor, but they usually leave at the end of their shift without a word. They also will not care if you notice certain medications aren't being given or that a patient hasn't been moved often enough. The administration also seem to have problems with communicating. You will rarely see the nursing administrator out of her office. She is hesitant to discuss or disclose records of patients to family members legally allowed to ask. I was told we would have to pay for copies of their medical records, which are hand written and not available on a portal. This is not a place to rehab, it is a place to have set backs. If you have a family member there, you need to be very observant. Watch out for bed sores. Make sure people are not canceling patients physical therapy because they don't want to get them up. Make sure your family member is being moved if they can't move on their own. Make sure they are being fed or that their feeding machine is working. My family member went many hours without nourishment several times while there. I will say some positives about this place. The respiratory therapists who are there during the day are very attentive and caring. (The evening one can be found napping occasionally in the upstairs rec room if you need him.) The speech therapists, PT and OT staff, for the most part, are also very knowledgeable and caring. I think the PT and OTs need to follow up with a patient in person if they are being told the patient is refusing to go. I challenge the four owners of this place to stay there for an extended period of time as an immobile patient. I wouldn't want my name associated with this place unless major changes are made fast.

He never consulted us or discussed pros and cons of the medicines and changed them without us knowing the side effects or interactions among them. I had to constantly go and ask him about them. One day he got extremely angry and yelled out "How many times do I have to tell you. Get out of here. I'm not taking care of your wife. Take your wife and go. Get out. Go." I was totally shaken and stunned. I told him he was not the owner. I wanted to talk to his boss, the medical director. He flippantly answered." Go ahead and talk to him. I am not his son." I complained to the Administrator and the medical director later. They both said they were reassign his area, but really didn't since he was at his nursing station whenever he worked,on our floor. They didn't fire him or even admonish him as I could tell. This kind of egregious professional misconduct should not be tolerated anywhere in rehab centers. These employees work there because of patients and rehab centers are open because of patients. There were times when medicines would be delayed, even after asking for them up to an hour. All in all most of the supervisors, nurses, aides, PT staff, admissions staff and receptionists were very nice people. The food is not good and we had to bring it from outside most of the time. I'm giving this place a one star because this nurse practitioner ruined everything for us. We were in the middle of rehabilitation, so didn't want to change Centers. I'm thinking of complaining about him to the New York State education department, National Health Care Associates (owners of Bel-Air, ) and Medicare among others. Anybody considering putting their loved one here , is strongly cautioned about a possible similar horrible experience to ours and should think about it very carefully.

Within 2 days they couldn't locate her clothing we brought in for her. A few days later they lost her close up glasses (not cheap ones) when we had a change of room. I reported this to everyone here from the volunteers all the way up to administration. There is no communication here and most of the staff is very lax and slow. They almost never delivered her hearing aids and I had to ask for them every time I came. (They are taken out and put in a cart at night ). The TV wasn't working for the entire first week even though they called maintenance. Into her second week she developed an infection and nobody called family to let us know nor were we told what the treatment regiment was. I just felt that overall the care wasn't great. I have nothing else to compare this to but I am overall very disappointed. I know working here isn't the greatest job ever and it's very demanding but I'm sorry I didn't see the overall rating on yelp before she came here. The best part of this place is the free bakery in the lobby.

We toured many places but a few denied her since she had the history of falling. We chose South Point Plaza because it was close to home and when we came for the tour, one of the supervising nuses, was very helpful and truly seemed to care. We saw the first floor which is newly remodeled and didn't smell like urine like most rehabilitation/nursing homes do. When she was transferred, it was Christmas Eve at night. She was brought up to the dementia unit (3rd floor). I took elevator to the 3rd floor and I thought i had walked into a completely different place. The place was nothing like the floor we saw. It smelled, the people were advanced dementia patients and the rooms were very outdated and just looked depressing. I literally broke down thinking that my grandma would be unhappy or uncomfortable in this environment. I immediately contacted admissions but it was Christmas Eve 10pm so no one to help me at that time. The nurse supervisor, the nurse on the floor and all the CPN'S (aides) came to the room and told me not to worry. They were very kind and caring to my grandma, my mom and myself. We came to visit every day all day and i must say, the nurses and aides were very sweet, caring and kind. My grandna had no complaints at all. After the holiday, admissions called me first thing in the morning and told me they were moving my grandma to the first floor. This is the acute treatment floor not dementia unit. They explained that the hospital record stated she had alzheimers (which she does but not advanced) and they needed to be sure she was watched properly over the holiday weekend and make sure that if she was a run away patient, she would be well taken care of (since dementia unit has a lock down unit). I think that was a good precaution they took. Now my grandmother is on the first floor in a very comfortable, clean and nice room with a very nice roommate. She tells me she is happy here and they are nice to her. The staff even put a paper with translation words in her language so they could communicate with her since she doesn't speak English. The nurses and the rest of the staff have been very helpful and kind. Day 7 and so far this has been a great choice.

The rooms are consistently unclean, and the majority of the staff exhibit a lack of diligence, often refusing to maintain even the most basic hygiene standards, claiming that cleaning the patients' rooms is not part of their responsibilities. The presence of rodent droppings on the filthy tiled floors is alarming, and the windows are obscured by grimy, faded drapes that rarely see any cleaning. This situation has persisted for years, with the facility accepting Medicaid and Medicare patients while providing substandard care, exemplified by the inadequate meals and neglectful treatment of residents.
