I'm on an 80-day roadtrip with my two young kids from Chicago to Alaska and yesterday, in Middle Of Nowhere, BC, my iPhone dies. I have an iPad as backup for documents and navigation but can't easily make calls with it. So a dead iPhone is a huge safety concern for me. I call Apple and they are willing to ship me a phone anywhere but can't guarantee an arrival date. They suggest I stop by MEDIAsolutions in Whitehorse, Yukon. The town in which I live has over 50,000 residents. The entire province of Yukon has a significantly smaller population, so while hopeful, I figured it was a longshot to either revive or replace the iPhone. I figured I'd have to wait weeks and many miles to have my phone issue addressed in Anchorage. I couldn't have been more lucky than to walk into MEADIAsolutions and to meet its founder, Trevor. His iOS tech(s) were out that day, but after hearing my dilemma he went to work immediately and within hours my dead phone was evaluated as truly dead, I had a replacement phone (via AppleCare), and he even hung out after hours so that my new phone could get most of the way through a restore-from-backup. And as if that wasn't enough, his staff were super kind to my kids. As far as I'm concerned, both my experience at MEADIAsolutions and Trevor himself are some of the highlights of this trip. I deal with MEADIA Solutions for all my business and personal Apple needs as well as general tech support. Great service, quick response times and very thorough. They also are our Lightspeed point of sale dealer and Trevor was invaluable in the transition from our previous POS to Lightspeed. The only reason for 4 not 5 stars is that I'm not a fan of having to use an iPad in store to get in a queue to buy a small accessory like a charger cable or iPhone case. Excellent, organized, fast, friendly service. I am extremely confident in their expertise. I contacted Apple for a potential battery recall and they advised me to take my laptop to Meadia Solutions. I booked my appointment online through the Apple website and was told it would take 1 - 2 weeks to service my laptop. All good and an easy process. Even better, is that it was ready the day after I brought in the laptop! Furthermore, Connor, one of the specialists, made some other repairs I had mentioned to him, free of charge. Completely unexpected! It's great to save money, of course, but the gesture goes a long way to demonstrate that Trevor, Connor and the rest of the team truly care about the customer experience. And, even if you don't have a computer issue or are looking to purchase a computer, you may want to stop in to say hello to the cutest security dogs I've ever met, Pixel and Nacho. I took my computer in to be serviced for some issues. They said they would call me when my ticket came to the top of the list, in order to reduce my time without my computer. They never called and when I came in (in person over a week later) they said "oh. you weren't on the list we were looking at." After having my computer for a week, they called with my options to fix the computer. My options were to replace entire portions of my computer since they couldn't find the specific issues. Finding these options too expensive, I said no and that I would be in that afternoon to pick up my computer. When I arrived, my computer wasn't put back together yet. It was covered in dust, had a new chip in the casing and one of the issues was actually worse than before I brought it in. So after fixing absolutely nothing, they charged me over $100 for "diagnostics." I will never use this business again, which means only online since Whse doesn't have many Mac retailers. read more
