I've been to this office twice now to see Dr. Dendy, and I have nothing but great things to say about her. She's really nice and knowledgeable, and I actually recommend following her on Instagram because she shares lots of great skin care tips! My only issue is that there's always a bit of a wait here, and I'm not a huge fan of their preferred pharmacy, Apotheco. It's a delivery service in Manhattan, which is a little annoying because I don't live in Manhattan so I have to get it delivered to my office while I'm at work or go to their Kips Bay location to pick it up. They really push this pharmacy hard. The last time I was at MDCS I tried to switch to a different pharmacy and they were not having it. I also tried to call Apotheco to have them send my info to a different pharmacy and they refused to. I understand that it's a convenient service but it's hard for me just stop what I'm doing at work at any given time to run downstairs to pick up my prescription. I really enjoy having MDCS for my dermatology needs so I'll deal with Apotheco but I wish I was given more of an option. read more

I really liked my dermatologist, but the practice's refill policy feels like a money grab. They only renew prescriptions a few times before requiring another appointment, even for common medications patients have used safely for years. In my case, that meant a quick telehealth visit just to say, "Yes, I still need the same cream," and get billed for it. I've never experienced this at any other NYC dermatology practice. The policy is inconvenient, expensive, and ultimately made me go elsewhere. I'd recommend finding another practice. read more

MDCS DERMATOLOGY During a consultation with Dr. Snehal Amin regarding my sagging jowls, he advised me that a mini facelift would be the procedure that would lift my jowls. Following the surgery, 2 weeks later, the before and after photos showed no change at all. Dr. Amin himself admitted that no change had occurred hence suggested performing another surgery to fix the problem. 2 additional surgeries later, my jowls were still quite prominent. Dr. Amin acknowledged that my problem had not been resolved but that nevertheless he had tightened my neck (which I had not asked for). During my last visit, he suggested yet another quick fix which I declined. I have suffered a great deal physically as well as mentally. Worst of all are the horrible scars in front of my ears. Stay far, far away from MDCS Dermatology, I have an issue with sweating profusely which my PCP said it was normal. However, I was annoyed by it and wanted to do something about it. Dr. Noah Gratch contacted my wife claiming that there was a new procedure called Radio Frequency (RDF) that would make me stop sweating permanently and he assured that it was going to work 100 percent. The procedure is very expensive and it is not covered by insurance. The first procedure was painful but I was ok with it since I was looking forward to the results that Dr. Gratch had mentioned. The second procedure was the worse experience ever. I was left in the room for over an hour shirtless, a staff person walked in the room eager for the payment when you are supposed to pay at the end. That's a clear indication that their main concern is money. The work ethics is non-existence. The alleged anesthesiologist applied the anesthesia and Dr. Gratch walked in the room about 10 minutes after when I was not numbed. He started the procedure and it was painful. He had to stop and add anesthesia multiple times. It was still extremely painful since it was thousands of watts applied to my underarm similar to being tase with a taser. I felt like I was being torture and doubt the anesthesiologist credentials since clearly she did not know what she was doing. I endured all these pain and aggravation, paid $2,400 hoping that it would work but it did not. Instead I continue to sweat and it is worse than before, now the sweat has a sticky consistency which is as a result of the RDF. Even the front desk staff told me that this treatment has a 50/50 percent chance to work when Dr. Gratch had promised that it was 100 percent guarantee. I did not complete the third procedure because I went to my PCP to inquire about this procedure and he informed me that it does not work. In fact, they rent the machine for $1,500 a month and they charge people $1,200 a session and it is not effective. Bottom line, I paid $2,400 to be tortured, deceived and I continue to sweat (which at this point I'm not concern about). When we contacted Dr. Gratch to get an explanation or do something about, all he offered was for me to go back to the office and pay more for botox therefore, it seems that he already that the RDF treatment does not work. I had this procedure in January and I was waiting to see any positive results and nothing has happened. The sweat is even worse. Dr. Gratch never reached out to me to address this matter. He even bumped into me and my wife on the street and he acted like he did not see us close to Fortunatto Brothers bakery. I am very disappointed and deceived.I just want to warn people that there is zero chance of this procedure to work and is very painful. Obviously, they just care about the money. I will never ever go back to MDCS, it was the worse experience ever and I know Dr. Gratch and trusted him. I have realized that it is better for me to sweat than not to sweat. read more

Nothing to say, truly a disappointment! This place requires ALL PATIENTS to leave a credit card info on their file. Well, the consequence is that after a few weeks of my visit, my credit card always gets charged hundreds dollars bills. When I ask the front desk to give a summary, she have no idea what was charged. They just give me a the treatment code without explaining details! When I ask them to explain treatment code, front desk gets impatient. This is ridiculous! I have the rights to ask right !? Doctor NOAH GRATCH is a very business-driven doctor. He spent 5-7 minutes with me for a total visit. I told him I need to talk to my insurance to find out the coverage. Then he quickly walk away without doing a touch-up for my mole and even answering my questions. I spent 20 mins waiting for him, and he let his assistant to let me leave. His assistant, the darker-featured long hair lady told me: the laser machine is GONE. He's not gonna treat you today. How could you lie without noticing the laser machine is on the top of my head ? Again, plenty of good dermatologists in NYC , and plenty of money in my pockets, We need to make sure to pay for the ones who we trust with a great bedside manner and attitude, respect. I have two very mixed experiences with MDCS - in a nutshell, a positive medical one with Dr. Schadlow and a VERY negative cosmetic one with Dr. Engelman. I would NEVER allow Dr. Engelman or any of her staff to come near my face. Dr. Schadlow was wonderful. Great bedside manner, patient, answered all of my questions with answers that were clearly considered and incorporated any preferences or concerns that I had. Dr. Engelman was the complete opposite. She came in and sat with me for a few minutes, then ran out the door and ditched me with her medical assistant at the first possible opportunity. Requests to follow up by phone with the doctor were met by yet more medical assistants who gave completely inconsistent information on price (much lower) and treatment (fewer sessions) relative to my consultation. I posted screen shots of a conversation on iKlara (their messaging app) so you can get a sense for yourself of the confusion and inconsistency. This doesn't inspire confidence. At best, the assistants were speaking about something that they shouldn't have been speaking about, at worst, the doctor just quoted me an arbitrarily high price when in actuality there is a set menu of pricing that the assistants quoted. Either way, if they can't even get a price correct, how do I know that they are getting the really important stuff correct (like, how they will be treating my skin?!)? The fact that the doctor spent the absolute minimum amount of time in my consultation (which cost $250, for the record) and then ran out the door and punted me to her incompetent group of medical assistants, the inconsistencies in pricing, the lack of consideration and feedback to how these recommendations and procedures were appropriate for my specific situation...all of that leads me to believe that this cosmetic practice is just a money grabbing shop that is selling procedures to people arbitrarily, and that they are purely focused on making money, not on actually treating their patients. I waited a while to write this review because I wanted to do a consultation with another dermatologist at another practice, just to see if maybe my experience with MDCS was just the norm for cosmetic dermatology. Unequivocally, it was a totally different (FAR BETTER) experience. All that is to say that MDCS's cosmetic practice seems to be more of a for profit cosmetic treatment factory, rather than a cosmetic medical practice focused on patient care and truly treating areas of concern. I've been to this office for a few different issues and each time I've walked away happy, less stressed and sometimes better looking than when I got there :) The office is run very efficiently, they have many options for automated/online check-in and scheduling which really save you in-office time. For the human contact/offline part of the visit, the reception staff is always pleasant and helpful. But, let's get to the heart of the matter and of the review: Dr Amin and Dr Schadlow are both absolutely amazing! They're each compassionate, reassuring and thorough. And... a special shout-out to Monica - the most considerate and welcoming Physician's Assistant that I've met - I'm usually pretty high strung when I go there but every time she's prepped me, I'm put at ease. We've been patients of Dr. Schadlow for over 20 years; we have followed her from her prior practice to this one. I am very upset, I starting calling 2 days ago to get in touch with Dr. Schadlow but you never get through to the REAL OFFICE. The call goes to the Philippines and the very nice ladies who answer send emails to the actual office! My mother is 91, I have significant concerns about her skin and I don't think that Dr. Schadlow has even received my message yet, as she always gets back to us. I came here because of scarring I experienced from another medical treatment. My appointment was 90 minutes late, but otherwise Dr. Engelman was very nice and knowledgeable. She recommended two treatments for me and said her office would submit a prior authorization with my insurance. Unfortunately, Dr. Engelman's assistant was quite different. She made a blatantly discriminatory comment to me when I was scheduling a follow-up at the front desk. I pointed it out and she literally did not respond at all. When I was waiting for the elevator, the receptionist ran out and really deeply apologized for everything. The next week I received a message from the PA in question making it seem like she is refusing to submit the prior authorization and asking me to pay out of pocket. I would give this office another chance, largely because of the receptionist's apology, so I'll see if they choose to honor their contractual obligation with my insurance company. EDIT: I've updated this review in response to the message from the office below stating they will not be submitting for prior authorization. To reiterate: - I was scarred by a medical procedure paid for by my insurance. - I then looked up my insurance plan's policy with regards to scar removal and double-checked it with an agent over the phone. They do cover scar removal in this case, but require the doctor performing it to obtain prior authorization. - When I left my appointment with Dr. Engelman, both her and her staff stated that they would submit prior authorization for the scar removal. - When leaving the office Dr. Engelman's PA made a comment in relation to the very medical condition that's treatment left me with the scarring. This is illegal under Title 8 of the Administrative Code of the City of New York. Note that the office has not mentioned this in their response below. - A week later the office has decided they will not submit for a prior authorization as they had previously agreed. For the third time they are trying to pressure me into paying $9,000 for treatment that is EXPLICITLY covered by my insurance plan. - The office is stating I would be reimbursed for this treatment. However, I just checked with my insurance company and they stated that while they would cover 100% of this treatment with a prior authorization, they would cover 0% if one is not obtained. They also stated that in-network providers like this office are contractually obligated to obtain prior authorization for eligible treatment of insured patients. Finally, they told me that a provider misrepresenting insurance coverage to me may be in violation of New York State's Emergency Medical Services and Surprise Bills Law. This place is the most impersonal and awful practice I've ever visited in my life...I'll get right to it: 1 - They use no less than four different electronic systems to manage their patients: Athenahealth, Klara, Phreesia, and PatientPop. All four cover different aspects (e.g. front office staff communications, check in, messages from specialists, etc.), but none of them are at all interconnected. What that means is that before, after, and even DURING your visit, be prepared to be BESIEGED by completely unrelated and annoying text messages and emails from every direction. I'm all for electronics but at some point it just becomes too much. 2 - I arrived for a routine visit/checkup about 10-15 minutes before my scheduled appointment time, completed a five minute questionnaire, and sat for almost 40 minutes before I saw Dr. Amin, so he was 30 minutes late to my very first appointment. Let me make something very clear...I AM THE CLIENT. I am paying for the visit...YOU WORK FOR ME. Dr. Amin is the co-founder of this factory practice and showed up almost a half hour late to an appointment that was scheduled well in advance. What kind of bar does that set for the rest of the practitioners here? 3 - Interns are everywhere. Carrying laptops, running around like little students in what should be a professional practice. I specifically scheduled an appointment with Dr. Amin, and he was the only one in the room for the visit. After a very rushed, 15 minute visit, I sent a follow up message to HIM, and the response I received two days later was laden with typos and clearly not from him at all. I replied back since clearly my message was incorrectly routed (after all, I selected Dr. Amin from the drop down), and still have no response. So in summary: 30 minutes late to first appointment, failed to reply to two very direct (and very short) follow up messages. No thanks. Maybe I'm spoiled by all the nice folks at One Medical group for my primary care, the direct access to doctors (via email, in the rare instance it's needed), on-time appointments, and the ONE app that they use that manages everything. There are way too many other good practices out there to waste any more time at Manhattan Dermatology and Cosmetics Surgery. read more

Do NOT get CO2 laser therapy with Dr. Snehal Amin, please first consult with an experienced plastic surgeon. Amin said this would remove dark spots from my face and the worst thing that would happen is a bad sun burn for a few days. During the drive home my face began to heavily bleed and continued for 4 hours. The office said it was normal, although it was not mentioned prior. Post visits Dr. Amin kept saying 'I see great improvement' but refused to compare with b4 pics. An infection also developed, took months to heal. He prescribed Soolantra which caused dark spots. He didn't know what he was doing but kept asking me to come back to the office, charged for the visits, and did absolutely nothing but lie. I waited one year to write this review and my face is still damaged with prominent red blotches, makeup does not cover. I've gone to specialists who said the skin is not repairable and due to my color tone I was not a candidate for this therapy. Dr. Amin is a fraud when it comes to CO2 laser. read more

This place is a hit or miss - inconsistent. If you are willing to take the risk, go for it. I was initially attracted to the "celebrity doctor" Dr Engleman. Pros: nice interior. Celebrity doctor that elevates the "caliber" of this space. When you are willing to shell out money, yes Dr Engleman is nice. Con: follow up visit with Dr Engleman was more curt. She stops smiling, lean back with a Miranda Presley stern look with narrowed eyes hinting you it's time for you to wrap up (this was only five mins into the appointment which is couple hundred). Be careful of them overcharging which happened twice. The front desk receptionist could be very rude (blonde young intern) or very professional - the former I feel bad for them because they deal with probably grumpy patients but that's part of the job. read more

Experience has gotten so much worse since COVID. They were a bougie clinic. Never got the same doctor or consistency. But Atleast they were mostly on time. During COVID tried to charge me for a telehealth visit even when the governor mandated them to be free. Then sent my prescription to the wrong address and the delivery service charged me $200 after I specifically three times clarified I wasn't in NYC. Had an appointment Monday, and again sent a completely random prescription to the pharmacist that I have to drive an hour total to get to! No one answers the phones. I get they want to use Klara but there's so much miscommunication and no follow up unless I hound them. Used to love them but no longer this was really their last chance. read more

Top dermatologist in the business. Dr. Gratch worked wonders for me on both medically urgent and elective procedures. A routine skin inspection revealed a pre-cancerous mole after lab results came back. Dr. Gratch removed it and the 18 stitches healed up beautifully and completely. For redness on the cheeks to sun exposure and burst capillaries, Dr. Gratch performed a multi-visit procedure that took ten years off my personal appearance and boosted self-esteem. I was a legacy referral from Dr. Steier's practice, and have seen Dr. Gratch for five years. He is an ace! Only downside: be prepared to wait in reception for at least 30 minutes. read more

Going in for Mohs surgery (to remove skin cancer) is never a fun thing, but my experience at MDCS could not have been any better. As one reviewer noted negatively, they do communicate electronically and send a decent amount of paperwork, but this is to get you set up on the patient portal, and Dr Amin is reachable thru the portal within 8 hours. The front desk and reception are very welcoming and helpful and the physician assistants are informative and friendly. Dr Amin, who has a great reputation in this somewhat specialized field,was the icing on the cake. He took the time to explain everything in great detail but in easy to understand terms. The procedure itself was much shorter than I imagined, and Dr Amin spoke the whole way thru it, taking away any fear or anxiety one might have when having layers of skin scraped away. The results are seen in real time, so Dr Amin can determine the right amount of work necessary. He made sure to answer any questions I had on the post operative and the staff was very good about communicating future visits I highly recommend this practice for all your dermatology needs read more

Love this clinic! Dr. Garshick always takes her time to listen and discuss all my dermatology concerns! I would recommend her and this clinic to everyone trying to get into their best skin. I love that there is never a wait, they keep your exact appointment time, but somehow also manage to not keep you waiting if you ran a few mins late due to our city's third world subway system. They also worked with insurance to my get prescriptions fully covered! When it's time for refills, you don't have to go back in every few weeks, and can be done via a virtual system called Clara. They pretty much take care of all the stressful parts of seeing the doctor, which is better for beautiful skin ;p read more

I got a bug bite on my arm, it swelled up a lot worse than anything I'd ever gotten (several centimeters), so I got referred here. Dr. Gratch took a quick look, decided that the bite was a hypersensitivity to bug bites in general. Which I've never had before, but he assured me this was the case anyway, said I should get blood tests/a biopsy just to make sure, and prescribed something to help with the swelling. He also brought in some interns to gawk at my arm. They may have spent more time looking at my arm than he did. Someone other than Dr. Gratch obtained the samples for the test, and I went on my way. I took the pills for two days (once per day), at which point the swelling went down, and I stopped. A few days later, I get some bug bites again, but both looked normal (i.e., not as huge as the one I came in for). Here's where I get very suspicious about all the tests I just did. A week after the appointment (5 days after I stopped taking the pills), at my follow-up, Dr. Gratch told me that the tests indicated that I did get a bug bite (well duh), and that he believed I probably have the hypersentivity to bug bites. I showed him the other normal bug bites, and told him I had only taken the prescribed pills for two days, and he said the medicine was probably still working (How many days does it take for these pills to wear off? He wouldn't tell me), and that this would be something I'd have to deal with indefinitely. He prescribed more pills and a topical cream and sent me on my way. I never picked either prescriptions up. Nevertheless, it cost $500+ in medical bills for this guy to look at me for maybe 10 minutes total, to tell me something that made no sense, and to show my arm off to interns for "educational purposes." Not including the cost of the pills that may or may not have helped with the swelling. And sure enough, here I am months later, having been bit by bugs since then, and having not had the same swelling problem that I did when I went to Dr. Gratch. Maybe Dr. Gratch is good with different issues, but if my arm ever swells up a lot like that again, I'll go to CityMD or something. read more

Richard Mizuguchi is one of those catty, bitchy people that you expect to meet at a bar, not a doctor's office. I asked him about safe sunscreen for children and sun exposure (I'm careful in the sun) and he -- I think he was trying to be funny -- chided me for being too tan. He just went on and on, like someone trying to make a joke at a party who doesn't get that its falling flat. I said I wear sunscreen everyday, and I'm not really tan at all, but I have a child and so we do need to spend time outdoors in parks. He kept referring to my child as "IT" and asked if I wanted to give IT melanoma, said I should just keep IT indoors all the time -- then he gave a superficial check of my moles (didn't check my scalp, didn't check my hands and feet) and said that I was "okay". Fancy office, unprofessional doctor. Oh well. I also saw Dr. Gratch once and he was much nicer, but again, it was a really fast visit and seemed high priced for what it was. This place is a high-volume money machine. If you're looking for a place where the patient's interests come first, look elsewhere. Most significant (and final) bad experience before going elsewhere: I came in for a dermatology follow-up and the woman in billing ran my insurance and confirmed that the appointment would be covered, leaving me with zero liability. At my next appointment she told me they had been mistaken, and that actually I was now responsible for the full amount of the previous appointment. Had they given me correct information the first time I never would have taken the appointment. But rather than acknowledge their responsibility for the error and reverse the charge, they gave nothing more than a superficial apology and left me stuck with the full bill. There are plenty of caring, capable dermatology practices in New York City. MDCS is not one of them. Do yourself a favor and find a practice where the patient is valued more than an incremental dollar. read more

First time there, saw the celebrity doctor who made me wait for 30 minutes, saw me for 2 minutes, didn't even get close to my face, didn't ask questions, and finally said that my problem was that I was 32 years old and should now start using Retinol. Do you think she even explained to me that I shouldn't go in the sun with it or I could burn my skin? Of course not. About billing, they are terrible and are always overcharging you. I stopped going there over a year ago and they continue to send me bills for God knows what. Oh! Don't ask questions or they may charge you for it! Truly, it happened to me. Dr. Schadlow is amazing as is her nurse assistant. Very knowledgable, patient, conservative in recommending treatment. However, the wait time here regularly exceeds 30 minutes and the front desk girls are super snippy (to put it gently). They seem bothered to have a patient come in or inquire about the late appointment, and loudly reprimand patients about the policies or charges so the entire waiting room can hear. Overall though, Dr. Schadlow is worth putting up with the frustration. She's amazing! read more

Went back but this time saw Dr. Amin for botox, microderm abrasion, and getting rid of some tags near my eye. This was my first time doing all this and I was really pleased with the process and the result. Dr. Amin was efficient, explained what he was doing and why, and gave me clear instructions on how to care for my skin over the long term to prevent breakouts (he threw in some acne removal work), and brown spots on my skin. I did botox on my forehead to get rid of wrinkles and I am hooked - for better or worse =/ I have found my dermatology office! Unprofessional & Careless gratch walked into the room already knowing what he wanted to scribe me. however, this was before even asking me any questions about my skin. or really looking he did not even ask me my skin type or what i was using to wash my face.. or what medications i had been on etc. this was troubling to me.. what if i wash my face with car oil? how will he know if thats causing irritation? so i feel the appointment was not thorough at all. and it made me not sure if i even want to fill the script. how can i know if this is a generic thing he gives all his first time customers or.. why i should take it. when he wrote the prescription he didnt even say why he was prescribing that or say anything that educated me on anything. it didnt seem like he wanted to b involved or take a good history. to be totally honest, i felt he was doing more of a presentation than trying to be a doctor, asking questions, trying to understand the situation. so overall i was disappointed. when i told him what i was using on my face . he just said no. with no explanation. just to be clear he didnt talk about skin at all. i think he honestly thought he was going to just hand me a script and leave the room. and the script was for a cleanser? i just was baffled by his blahzay nature. he also has a lot of other people in the room while he's there.. very awkward and unnecessary. he did not even sit in front of me where i could see him, he sat in back of me..? not even facing my face the whole thing was just very careless. and a little insulting since i waiting a week and a half to see him, and spent the day traveling by foot to get there. read more

I saw Dr. Ma in the Hampton Bays office today. Not a good experience ! She never introduced herself or called me by name. Spent little time addressing my concerns. She prescribed medication which she never explained. She never asked if I had any questions & when I did ask one , she was dismissive. She did do a biopsy which I felt was handeled professionally. read more

Pay attention other doctors, this is the way you do it... Treat your patients with respect. Have your examination be thorough and efficient. Listen to what they say, and reply accordingly. Diagnose the problem, and come up with the best solution for it. Be gracious, understanding and helpful. There are doctors out there who forget some of these things, but Dr. Gratch was on top of his game. I didn't have to wait around for my appointment. The receptionists were courteous.
