Kelly McVicker of McVicker Pickles can pickle anything, and make it delicious. Everything I've tasted has been awesome. She may be leading the movement towards a 'Pickle World'! Not only are the pickles tasty, the classes Kelly teaches are mucho fun, and the best way for anyone in the Bay Area to learn to Pickle! Anything! McVicker Pickles is a front runner in the foodie movement. Everyone should give them a try.

Not to brag or anything, but the general consensus was Prettiest Packed Jar!!

The communal table seating is a fun way to meet new people, talk about shared passion for food & culture. The food was beautifully presented & delicious! Chef Gracie & her crew did a wonderful job. The dining tables had small appetizers waiting for us upon arrival to graze and enjoy until the formal service started. I overheard her say that she knew we'd be hungry so she prepared some wonderful breads & dips in advance. The strawberry soup was interesting, not too sweet but had savory toppings that added flavor & texture. The beet salad and duck were presented family style and the duck was perfection, tender & flavorful. Dessert (lemon gelato) was served individually & was a refreshing end to our meal. Each course was paired with a wine where the history of the wine was shared by the sommelier of the evening. Overall, a fun event with delicious food & we met some interesting people.

Luckily, it's in the Mission, so there are other things to do to make the parking garage fees worth it. They measure and prep the ingredients for you. The specific class I took didn't require much action other than combining, stirring, and a tiny amount of chopping. You're in groups, so you can skip doing anything you don't want to do. The assistants are friendly and super talkative. Eating at the big table with everyone else was fun. They had beer, wine, and a nonalcoholic cocktail as well. I came with someone, but I think going solo wouldn't be too awkward. It's almost $200 for 3 hours and it's pretty inconvenient since I don't live in the area, but I'd recommend it for a fun evening!

Then I found Brigitte and White Apron. Brigitte's sent me a great intake questionnaire that went through what I liked, what I didn't--down to specific foods and ingredients. Brigitte and Collin then created meals catered to my tastes and calorie goals (paleo, ~700 calories/meal). Every week, I'd send in feedback on that week's food and we'd tweak things further (eg, cook asparagus in a certain way, no on specific spices, etc). Such a far cry from the on-demand food startups! The thing I loved the most about White Apron is the personal attention I got from the chefs about my likes, dislikes, and suggestions. They're extremely receptive to everything and crafted meals just for my tastes. If you're looking for a personal chef in San Francisco, I highly recommend White Apron.

Brigitte made a simple but well seasoned salad of fresh organic veggies and mixed herbs. This was complimented by a hearty, soul-warming lamb curry. I was delighted by her take on the curry. The meat was fork-tender and the spices were complex and savory but not overwhelming. We finished up with a playful make-your-own sundae and relaxed with happy full bellies. I'd have Brigitte over to cook for me any time!

7/27/25 Zach…read moresurprised me with a ramen cooking class at The Story of Ramen. I lovvvve ramen (and noodles in general) so I was ecstatic for this experience. The Story of Ramen is located in the Mission so parking was a little tricky. We got to the general area 20 minutes before so that we could get a decent parking spot. We did the 4 hour advanced workshop where we learned about how to prepare the broth, marinated eggs, chasiu pork, tare seasoning and how to make the ramen. For that day, there were 5 other pairs. Our teachers Manville and Jeff, guided us through every step of the arduous process of making the perfect bowl of ramen. The workshop started off with a lecture about the history of ramen and the creation of The Story of Ramen. Of all the tasks we did, my favorite was making the ramen itself. After learning in detail how much work goes into making ramen, I appreciate ramen more than I ever did before. This was a great team building activity and something new for us. I highly recommend this and of course you get to eat the bowl of ramen you make at the end of the workshop!

Classes start at $70. Whether you're planning a cozy date night, friend hangout, or the perfect foodie gft, this ramen-making class is it.

And she does that through food and hand-picked dishes that you will never uncover without a guide. Even though locations may change per tour, our group tasted a mix of cultures and got some stories behind the dishes, the restaurants, and their owners. Few examples - * Russian cuisine - Herring with a pickled onion on fresh bread * Indian street food - I was surprised how much I enjoyed this vegan street snack - I would have never ordered anything without meat, and I dislike spinach, but the fried spinach snack was mind-blowingly good. * Mexican - Quesadilla with plantain. Again, no meat but it was soooooo good. * Chinese - Glazed Pork and pork-filled bun I won't spoil the surprise for some of the other locations. And more, and more - Total of about 7-8 places. You won't stay hungry, guaranteed. The walk itself is not challenging; there are no hills to overcome, even though it's San Francisco. Don't wait - Just go!
