Vertical Hold Rock Climbing Gym - The new bouldering wall

Excellent bouldering gym!…read more I have a 2 week pass and had the opportunity to climb this evening here. Ive been to the Poway and San Marcos location but this one must be their flagship location. Its pretty big and a good amount of bouldering here but its also a gym for indoor rope climbing too. I like this location the best as its pretty big and doesn't feel as cramped. But there are lots of reasons why I probably wont be coming here regularly. For one, parking is a bit of a pain. I parked under an overpass bridge but was a bit worried of leaving my car there as there's a big sign that says no parking but saw lots of cars parked there too, so trusted it. The workers here at this gym were super nice and told me no problem to park there. But, parking is a serious situation. I also am not in this area much so this would only be a climbing gym I stop in occasionally. But, what I will say is that the routes are hard here but they are good. I enjoyed a lot of the routes I tried, I didn't complete all of them, but still fun to try and challenge yourself. There was also a lot of people given how much bouldering is available but thats because its San Diego. Im fine with that, just needs to take a little getting used to. I definitely enjoyed this experience and will definitely be back, this is on rotation for me as part of my physical activity schedule. Really nice bouldering here. Thanks!!

Well Coming here to do some Rock Climbing and there are quite a few walls with little stones and…read morerocks for you to climb . There are different walls and areas of difficulty for you to climb . But first you have to sign a waiver and then you can climb there walls and make sure you buckle up and get you climbing skills going !! This location is located in Old Town San Diego and you just park on the side of the building . As we walk in we were greeted and we signed the waiver and I have to say it is a bit challenging but fun for all ages !! I can see us coming back and climbing more !! It just takes practice and you can do it !! Overall great place and Lots of Fun !!! Highly recommend you try it !!

Did the Japanese Thriller with some friends for my birdday and we had a lot of fun! I wished we…read morecould've done the room by ourselves instead of being paired with strangers, but at least we made it out with less than a minute left! However, the Japanese Thriller barely felt on theme with the serial killer storyline other than the introduction video we received. I prefer escape rooms where I actually feel like I'm part of the story. This was a very different escape room than I have done before. While you always have to split up for escape rooms, this time we were forced to separate between multiple rooms so you had no idea how the other group was doing (this isn't great when you're forced to solve the room with strangers because you have no idea if they know what they're doing). It was definitely more chaotic than other escape rooms I've done. The rooms were small and they use locks for a lot of the puzzles, which isn't innovative. They also forgot to put back one of the pieces we needed to get the final combination, so we almost didn't make it out because we had to keep guessing. HOWEVER, the worst part of the entire experience was how RUDE the man was that was helping us on the walkie talkie. He would give us attitude every time we asked for a clue. Why give clues if you're going to rude when people use them?

Our visit was scheduled online for the Japanese Thrilled Escape Theme Room. We arrived and it was a…read morebit disappointing to see a homeless person sprawled out asleep and nearly blocking the entrance to the stairwell if this business. It is in an apartment complex in Hillcrest, and it is upstairs. So sad that the homeless problem has affected San Diego so much. We weren't sure if the homeless man was alive or not, but one person in our party said that could see him breathing. We then climbed the stairs to the business. We were greeted by a nice man who invited us in. We sat in the business lobby, awaiting our instructions. The nice man gave us our instructions, and some game playing tips. We would solve in 4 rooms, as a group, and we had a certain amount of time for the escape game. Cons: The rooms of this location are a bit shabby. They seem to be worn, old, and dusty. The escape game items are somewhat dirty and could use some refreshing. We had a hard time touching the materials for clues because they seemed "touched" by many other hands before ours. The lighting is a bit problematic. The walls and overall room settings are not in the best condition (and I don't mean creepy nor horror best, but needing a good refresh/cleaning wipe down). The sad homeless situation at the entry of the business was disappointing. Pros: The clues are great and playing the Japanese Thriller Escape Room game is super challenging. The staff person who greeted us and setup our group escape room was very customer service oriented. We will try the other locations to see if they are a bit more updated and cleaner.

Mermaid Half Marathon San Diego - Sweaty and gross looking but I got my bling!!!

2 of 12 in 2016 - DONE!!!…read more Who runs 2 1/2 marathons in 6 days... I DO!!! I earned my "Concrete" Mermaid Athlete status. My friends always call me a mermaid because I love the waters. I thought the Mermaid Series 1/2 Marathon and the pink mermaid medal was fitting for my wall of medals. I had originally signed up for the 10k 6 miles because 6 days prior to this race I just ran the Run Surf City 1/2 Marathon and in 3 weeks will be running the San Diego 1/2 Marathon. Never ran a race back to back but said there's a first for everything so less than 12hrs before start I had asked to switch to a 1/2 marathon (since my body fully recovered quickly) - why not!!! THE EXPO. There really wasn't one. Just a bib pick up at Sports Authority. THE COURSE. The race is on a Saturday morning. After a long week and having to wake up early in the M was a brutal awakening. No PRs just #sexypace. Started out cold and foggy. But appreciate the cold because by mile 5 the sun will be beaming. It was around mission beach park. Parking was hideous. Think about it, the start line and finish line are a mile away from each other and you can either park at the finish line and walk an extra mile back to your car OR you can park near the finish line and walk a mile before running 13.1 miles. There's no shuttle service!!! Choose wisely. The path ways were basically the park paths and side walks. Expect some crowding, especially when you catch up to pacer groups and they block the pathway and you can't get around them. The course is relatively flat with itty bitty unnoticeable inclines around mile 2-4. Mile 5-7 goes by quickly. Mile 8 was a clustered path and you are using mile 10s water station as mile 8s water station - not a good idea because you have to cross the course and get into the ways of mile 10 runners to get a cup of water. Mile 8-9 probably the hardest miles of this course. And the worst part, the hammer head gel espresso flavor on the tables were the nastiest gels I ever had. I had the squirts the rest of the day.... terrible!!! The rest of the way to the finish line you are running on a side walk and by then many locals are entering the park so your sharing a side walk with a lot of others runners and park visitors. And at the end they are having the kid dash on the same path as the finish so as you are running the last 100 yards there's kids and people dashing towards you (that was kind of weird and very disorganized). But overall I'm happy I ran the 1/2. San Diego people are so friendly... A lot of people smiled at me on the course, had conversation with me, etc. cracking up when homegirl and I ran past a volunteer that looked grumpy and didn't want to be there and she said "smile girl" and the volunteer still just stared at us. Hilarious! Anyhow this was a fun run with great people. THE AFTERMATH. Several tents set up for small snacks and drinks and a lot of merchandise on sale. They were serving green bananas. You know how important potassium is after running 13.1 miles and they serve GREEN BANANAS, yuck. But I received my medal and my mermaid necklace... I finished my 1/2 marathon and beat my time from 6 days ago by 5 minutes with no injury. Next race in 3 weeks :)
