Boy, I'm glad that I followed my instincts, after a preliminary visit to McOsker Kennels, before our dogs boarded there, and that I did not rely upon these Yelp reviews, as I never know what the numerator and denominator are of clients to Yelp reviews, and I always question the authenticity/credibility of Yelp reviews. Having said what I did, above, we decided to board our dogs at McOsker Kennels for almost two weeks. Our dogs were returned to us, happy, healthy, and clean. They were NOT covered in urine or feces. My instincts tell me that the dogs had a good experience at McOsker Kennels and we/they would return there. McOsker Kennels seemed responsible, respectable, professional, health/medically sound, and clean. We did not have our dogs bathed/groomed before our dogs were returned to us, so what we got was "pure dog," and not a case of hiding the condition of our dogs by bathing them, immediately before we picked them up. We groom our dogs, and their skin was clean and healthy when we brushed them out and bathed them, on the afternoon that we picked our dogs up at McOsker Kennels. On the "could improve side," it would be great if there was an occasional photo/video by email, while our dogs boarded at McOsker, communication with McOsker, by email, was inconsistent and not reliably responsive, and, despite explicit written directions left with McOsker, there may have been an issue with the medications that one of our dogs received or did not receive. We know better for next time, the points that we need to emphasize, including the correct name of our dog. In closing, McOsker Kennels appeared to me to be a respectable, reliable business, who we would be confident doing business with in the future. read more

I don't usually leave reviews but am so upset I put my dog here. I am almost 50. Have had dogs my whole life and travelled. So have used many boarding facilities. I wish I had listened to other yelp reviewers. I called ahead to pick my dog up early and said I had no problem paying any extra fees. The woman at the desk was rude on the phone. When I came for my dog, the woman was one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. When they brought my dog she reeked and was soaking wet. Her whole underside hair from chin to tail was hardened into clumps that were wet as well. Her left eye was oozing green and she was desperate for water. This was after only 3 nights. No attempts were made to contact me. I'm so glad I got my dog early and am so sorry I brought her there. Never again. read more

The first time I brought my dog in 2019 for grooming, he turned out perfect. Trimmed and shaped correctly. The women was pretty rude at the counter, not talking and asked me to pay. Which is what I planned on doing. I didn't mind because I know the groomer, she does good work. The second time in 2021, I walk up to the sound of dogs barking, which is expected. I brought him inside, the place reeked as if something died in there. I say hi to employee and we exchanged names and I say nice to meet you. She went into the basement. I heard noisy banging and a shout. That must be why the dogs weren't barking anymore, after Katie went in the basement.(Come to find out from another employee, Katie told the man in charge, I asked if she was breeding age) Very unprofessional. Not a good way to get return customers. I went to pick him up and the front door was locked. Kind of disturbing to discourage reuniting owners with their dogs for some shady reason. It wasn't fun at all. Seemed dreary... Safe to say I won't be returning to this wretched place. read more

After seeing positive reviews my friend and I booked a tour for boarding our pets ( cats and a dog). They couldn't accommodate us the same day we called but we made an appointment for the next morning. We first went upstairs to the cat loft. I saw something quite different from the website photos. The kennels for cats are small and the whole area is uninviting. Questioning revealed that the cats (there was one apparently lonely cat) don't get much attention other than basic needs. The windows for the cats are very dirty. The dogs are in the basement, which has the atmosphere of a dungeon. Kennels are small and the smell was strong. My overall impression was that the kennel is dirty and smelly and the pets aren't given much attention. My advice would be to ensure you have a tour to see where your pet will be spending its time. My friend and I were both very upset after our visit. Personally I would not choose or recommend this kennel to anyone. read more

I have boarded my dogs here three times. When I initially came, the woman working the desk was extremely pleasant and nice. She explained how it worked and made me feel like my dogs were in good hands. The next visit was not great at all. The woman (a different one) was extremely rude and short. There were no pleasantries. My husband commented on her attitude in the car, but I assured him that maybe it was just a bad day. The third time was horrendous. The same rude lady was there and there was a discrepancy in the pricing. I usually only board, but this time I wanted to add the grooming because there's a special they have when you combine the two. The policy states that when you add grooming on the last day, the boarding for that day is complimentary. I let the owner (and the rude woman) know that I will be picking up my dogs on Wednesday morning probably soon as they open. The owner suggested he do the grooming on Tuesday because he didn't want to have to bring the groomer in so early. (important to note, when picking up before noon, that day is not charged). I picked up at 10:50am on Wednesday and was charged for both grooming and boarding for Tuesday. Meaning there was no complimentary day. I asked for clarity and he told me that because the dogs stayed the night on Tuesday, that they added a boarding charge. I reminded him that the plan had always been to pickup Wednesday and that he elected to groom on Tuesday to avoid calling the groomer in early. He then stated, "You said when we open at 9am you would pick them up, it's almost 11am." First it was that they stayed the night (which was always going to happen) then it was because I wasn't there as soon as they opened. (Again, if you pick up before noon, that day is not charged). Ultimately, the customer service at this place is horrendous. I'm not sure where the original receptionist went, or if she still works there, but the new one is going to cause them to lose serious business. No pet owners will trust their pet's care in a place that they themselves are not comfortable. I will not return as I'm sure I'm not welcomed back anyway. TL; DR: The customer service sucks and one receptionist woman is extremely rude. read more

Such a disappointing experience. Please do not leave your pets here! My husband and I boarded our two cats here while we were out of town for a week. Their website promises "personalized attention" and a separate cat loft for a "stress free atmosphere". When we toured the location before booking there were two cats upstairs already in the cat loft. They ensured us that this area was for cats only. Unfortunately on the day we dropped off our cats there were several dogs upstairs including a liter of puppies. One of our cats was so terrified that he peed all over himself. They had promised to clean his crate for us before we returned. The crate had dried pee when we came to retrieve him. Additionally there were even more dogs upstairs when we came to pick up the cats. This is clearly not a cat loft and false advertising. We left specific instructions for feeding and brought more than enough food. When we picked up the cats there was approximately 4 days worth of food that was not given to them (remember we were only gone for a week). When we asked about this they said that if the cats didn't eat the previous food they were given they would not give them new food. In other words the cats were forced to eat old, stale food for several days. The entire place is run by a family. The kids seem to treat this like a chore that their parents force them to do. Our cats smelled terribly of urine when we retrieved them. They were clearly not well cared for. I regret the decision to leave them at this facility. Please, if you love your pets, find other arrangements for them! read more

I brought my Havanese dog to McOsker Kennels for nail clipping. It took a minute or so. I noticed blood on the floor from one of the paws. The employee said: "It happens all the time, it is OK". No apology, no offer of help. The blood was staining my car seat, then the floor at home. A lot of blood. Next day the blood re-appeared. Again I was scrubbing the floors, feeling sad about my dog. In 9 years doing this elsewhere this was the first such occurrence and it happened at McOsker. read more

I have to say this is the best facility that I have ever boarded my dogs. I have two dogs who stay here for 2 and 3 weeks at a time at least 3 times a year . They are happy and very well cared for. The boarding area is air conditioned in the summer and heated in the Winter. They are let out every day for day care and have a blast . I always book a grooming before I pick them up as they are playing with dogs all day .Grooming is fabulous. There is a person present day and night at the facility which makes me more comfortable . If any emergency happened overnight, someone is there as the owner lives on the premises . I boarded at another facility with no supervision in the evening and found out later that in case of fire, none of the animals would be saved. I give McOsker Kennels a 5++ read more

I will preface this review by saying that I have never reviewed a business, whether my experience was good or bad. Frankly, I've never cared enough to take the time to write a review. That being said, this most recent experience at McOsker was so poor and strange that I felt I needed to write this. We have brought our dog to daycare at McOsker on and off for a few months now (~2-3 times per week), mostly out of convenience. He is always excited to go to daycare and figures out where he is going when we're still about a mile from the facility, so we never suspected any kind of issue. We elected to have him groomed while at daycare one day and warned the employees that he is perfectly fine getting groomed except for his nails - he is not a fan of having his nails trimmed. We told them this and they said that it was okay and they would try to trim his nails anyways. Everything went fine, they informed us that he was well behaved except when it came to his nails and they had tried to hold him down but could not get him to settle down enough to safely trim his nails. This was no problem for us as we know how he is when you try to trim his nails. They stated that if we wanted him to be groomed there again that they would perform everything except the nail trim, which, again, we agreed was no problem. He had not been back for about a month or two since then until recently because we had been traveling for most of that time and he was either with us or staying with a relative. We called McOsker this morning and asked if he could go to daycare today, they said yes, we brought him in and left - no problem. Fast forward 3 hours and we receive a call from the same worker that took him when we dropped him off (not either of the owners) stating "Don't you remember last time we told you that he could never come back because he is too aggressive, he is biting everybody and you need to come pick him up now." This was shocking to us because he has never bitten anybody and due to work obligations, we could not get there for a couple of hours. Once we arrived and asked what the issue was, the worker (again not the owners) said that he was biting and being aggressive. At this point one of the owners came out and we again ask what the issue was and he contradicted what the other worker said, stating "He's not biting anyone, he is just being tense and snarling at us if we try to handle him but he is fine with all of the other dogs, it's just towards the humans". We told him that nobody told us that our dog was not welcome back and his response: "Oh, sorry, we thought someone told you." Also, if he was so "aggressive" last time he was there, why did it take them 3 hours to realize it..? Now, not only did nobody tell us "last time" that our dog was not welcome back or that he was being aggressive, our dog is nowhere even close to aggressive. This is the point where you might think "Well every dog owner is going to say that their dog is not aggressive, etc." but, seriously, this dog is not aggressive. He has been exposed to multiple other animals and humans since we adopted him at 8 weeks old. He is regularly out in public with us at breweries, coffee shops, ice cream stands, etc., where people (young and old) love to pet him and he has not even so much as growled at anyone or anything. Not to mention he has been to other daycare facilities and groomers without issue. I don't know what actually happened when he was groomed last at McOsker or what happened this day when we had to pick him up, I only know what I was told, but, if he was indeed snarling at the worker (again, regularly around other dogs and humans) then I believe that he must have been mishandled or mistreated at some point either by this particular worker or someone else at McOsker that scared him to the point that he did not want any of the workers to be near him. The whole experience was very strange, the worker who called us was extremely rude and overall unprofessional. Not to mention, I am weary about how sanitary the facility is as it does smell poorly in the lobby (somewhat expected with the number of dogs, but it is a fairly strong odor) and our dog has been returned quite dirty before (again, not totally unexpected since he is playing outside with other dogs all day). I hope that this was an isolated incident, for the dogs sake, but suffice to say, I do not recommend McOsker for any type of service. read more

I don't usually leave bad reviews but I thought I would for the sake of other people looking to board their dogs here. I've had bad experience with boarding in the past so I'm extra cautious when looking for places and I often ask to tour the facility to see what my dogs will be experiencing. Beware!! This "kennel" is in a basement of a house. When you walk in, you will be aware that these conditions are not appropriate for animals to live in. Cages are extremely thin in width. It is very dark, dirty, and it reeks. I did not see any food or water places in the cages with the dogs. There was far more dogs than the capacity should allow. Employees were yelling at barking dogs. Two or three dogs were in one small cage at a time. Their version of letting the dogs go outside is a tiny fenced in area where they are allowed to relieve themselves in. How they manage to relieve all these dogs "at least 3 times a day" is beyond me. This is inhumane and I am glad I asked to see the inside. I hope you think twice before bringing your dogs here. Because the good reviews you read about are about people who didn't actually tour the place the lady in the front desk who took me on the tour was friendly to me but even said herself she takes her dogs to a different place. Just because people who seem friendly doesn't mean that the place they work at is good. Please do not bother boarding your dog here. Take a tour for yourself, this place should be shut down. read more

I bring my 2 1/2 year old lab here at least twice a week for their doggie daycare and it is great! She is always excited to go here and to get out a lot of energy/socialize with the other daycare dogs. The staff are always kind and I really like that this is a family owned and operated facility that always has someone there to run the business. Highly recommended! read more

I got my cat groomed here today and they did a wonderful job. They were able to accommodate her on short notice, and she came home with a nice trim, free of mats, and smelling wonderful. The cost was very reasonable too. I would definitely use them again! read more

I took my little dog here a couple times to be groomed. Tim (the son) was friendly to me. His father, not very nice! My dog was very afraid. As soon as we got there, he told the groomer "put her outside" it was winter. She was put outside in this tiny chain link fence area. I saw her looking out at me as I drove away. I hoped that area was secure because it's located on a very busy road. They did a good job grooming but I wasn't happy with the way they treated her. I went there a few times because I couldn't find a groomer nearby. I thought maybe I was being too protective but then someone else told me "they stuck him outside near the driveway & left him alone!" Another visit there i witnessed an employee trying to drag a dog downstairs. I guess they board them in the cellar. That dog was afraid but the owner instructed the employee to just pull him down. This was so stressful for me and my dog! I finally found another groomer who is kind to the dogs. My dog enjoys going to the groomer now. read more

I toured the kennel to see if it would be comfortable for my dog. There was a strong odor before I even went in the front door, and when I went down into the basement to see the boarding area it was worse. It was damp in the basement and the runs were small. I can't comment on the care the dogs receive because I will not bring my dog. Be sure to check out the accommodations before you decide to board your dog. read more

We boarded our Yorkie this past Friday & Saturday. Never again. We left her regular food and treats with them. All the treats were still there when we picked her up. It also looked like all her food was still there. We received her belongings and the bag had dog feces in the bag. I know it is hard for some dog to be away, we have boarded her at other places and never has she come home so out of it. read more

These are great people at McOsker. We've been boarding our dogs there for at least 10 years. The family is nice and caring. The property is always immaculate. My dogs are never stressed or miserable when we pick them up so we know it's good! Once when one of our dogs had a medical problem while being boarded they followed our emergency instructions exactly. I would highly recommend McOsker Kennels. read more

i walked in there on march 31, 2017 to check the place out before we considered leaving my dog for boarding or to bring for daycare. as soon as you walk in the place smelled like poop. a worker came up to us and took us downstairs where the dog will be sleeping and play outside. the place where the dogs board is like a dungeon, (i would not even put bin ladin in there). thats how bad it looked and smelled. the girl told us that dogs don't go out to play when its raining or snowing. we asked if they have an indoor room where they can play she said no. so anyone who is paying for their dogs for daycare/boarding well their dogs are being kept inside the kennel all day. no wonder the place smells like poop as you walk in. the kennels has a little open area behind it so they can go and do there things when they have to. i don't know how a few people could this place a good review. (they probably didnt check the place out before leaving the family pet there but i guess they probably dont care as long as they have a place for their pet to be at while they go on vacation). the owners should use the money from breeder and fix the dungeon and put a cover outside for the dogs to play. read more
