Brightline Orlando Station to West Palm Beach…read more When Richard Branson helped bring Brightline train service connecting Orlando and South Florida, I thought, oh my gosh--what a great concept! Well, I recently had the opportunity to actually put it to use. I couldn't get a flight out of Orlando, so instead of stressing, I decided to take Brightline from Orlando to West Palm Beach, where I was able to catch a flight. And I'm so glad I did! I upgraded to Premium, which included drinks, a meal, and snacks. Definitely worth the upgrade! The seats were comfortable with more than enough legroom, tray tables for dining, and reclining seats. The train itself was clean, the ride was incredibly smooth, and we arrived in a timely manner. The onboard service was wonderful! The attendant was very friendly and came around offering drinks, snacks, and lunch. I enjoyed a Bloody Mary with a tin of sour cream chips, and for lunch I had the chicken and corn pasta, which was pretty good. Overall, this turned what could have been a frustrating travel day into a comfortable and relaxing experience. Couldn't get a flight? Brightline to the rescue! I would absolutely ride Brightline again, and Premium is the way to go!

All lots full except South economy. 15-minute wait for the shuttle, 30-minute ride to the station. That consumed the entire recommended arrival buffer before we ever reached the platform. At the station, the manager on duty declined to assist and told me to call a number listed on the website -- the website lists no phone number. I found the Orlando general manager's line myself. He told me roughly 10% of passengers miss trains due to oversleeping, suggested I wasn't being honest, and ended the call. The train service itself may be fine. The ground operation at Orlando and the customer service behind it are not. If you go, plan for 90 minutes and expect no help if the shuttle fails you.

We used the Disney Skyliner multiple times during our recent visit to Disney World. This included a…read moreride from EPCOT to Hollywood Studios. That ride took about 15-20 minutes total, including walking time at the stations. We boarded at EPCOT's International Gateway (the only place at EPCOT with a Skyliner station) and took it to Disney's Riviera Resort. That ride took about 10 minutes. We stayed in our gondola, rode it through the Riviera Resort station, and headed to Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort. The Caribbean Beach Resort station is the Skyliner's main hub. All three lines converge and any line-to-line transfer can happen at this station. We transferred at the Caribbean Beach Resort station to get to Hollywood Studios. We did not have to exit the station to switch lines. The ride from the Caribbean Beach Resort to Hollywood Studios took about 6-7 minutes. Luckily, there were no lines or wait times at the time of our visits to both the EPCOT International Gateway and Caribbean Beach Resort stations. Overall, the Skyliner system was convenient and in very good condition. The Skyliner opened at Disney World on September 29, 2019, so it's a relatively recent addition to the parks. The gondolas were modern and clean. All Skyliner staff that we interacted with were polite. The Disney Skyliner station at Hollywood Studios was unmemorable. I do think there can be better signage, maps, and communication at each of the Skyliner stations for clarity.

I recently flew out to Orlando for my first time since around 2013 for a work conference, and…read morememories immediately came back from the last time I was there from the airport to the hotel. Unfortunately, I didn't have time on my trip to enjoy a lot of what makes Orlando unique and special. I flew on American Airlines and found myself flying in and out of Terminal B, Airside 3. It was easy to navigate between the gates, baggage claim, and shuttle pick-up area. Unlike friends who absolutely hate flying, I enjoy the travel experience, especially when using some helpful tools like CLEAR, Global Entry/TSA Pre-Check, airport lounge membership, and airline status, most of which I was able to enjoy during my Orlando visit. When checking in, I typically have been able to skip the check-in area if I didn't need to check bags (as I checked in online) though this time, I checked in at the priority area for assistance and checking bags. I then went to the Terminal B check-in and used Global Entry and CLEAR (or TSA Pre-Check Touchless) to skip most of the line at Security while keeping my shoes on (thanks to an American Express Platinum card which comes with credits for both). Orlando's Terminal B offers multiple airline lounges including The Club MCO, Delta Sky Club, United Club, and Admirals Club. While the AMEX Platinum (or Priority Pass) provide access for entry to The Club MCO (when flying any airline) and the Delta Sky Club (when flying Delta), they weren't near my gate, and I wasn't flying Delta. Rather, my gate was right next to the Admirals Club, which I also had access to. After a short wait, I was able to enjoy that lounge. I wrote a separate review about my experience there, which was quite positive. When I initially arrived to the Orlando TSA West Checkpoint, I couldn't tell it was the West Checkpoint until I asked someone. Though I knew where I was, I was easily able to tell the difference for the regular line, the TSA Pre-Check line, the CLEAR line, and the TSA Pre-Check Touchless line. The CLEAR and Touchless lines were moving the fastest with the Pre-Check line going rather quickly, and the regular line went at a steady pace but had many more people in it. The security were helpful and friendly, and the TSA agents were reasonable with what they allow to be in luggage without questioning items. Upon arriving and picking up my luggage, which had a bit of a wait, my colleague and I headed to Ground Transportation to take advantage of the Mears Shuttle to one of the hotels in the area. I then took rideshare to get back to the airport, and I was dropped off right outside of the check-in area for all of the Terminal B airlines. I also found the tram was easy to get on and off and to navigate between my gate and baggage claim. I have no idea when I plan to be back in Orlando again but I would certainly welcome the chance to fly through the Orlando International Airport again.

Of the many iconic attractions at Walt Disney World, a top one is the Monorail which is an…read moreelevated, single track form of transportation. It first premiered at Disneyland before opening with the rest of the Disney World resort in 1971. Walt Disney wanted the Monorail to be more than just an attraction, he viewed it as an integral part of his utopian Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT). Disney saw the Monorail as a way to interconnect the cities of the future. While Walt Disney's utopian city never came to pass, the Monorail is still running today. The nearly three-mile Monorail takes guests between Magic Kingdom guest parking and the Transportation and Ticket Center. It also goes between three resorts along the Seven Seas Lagoon: the Grand Floridian, the Polynesian, and the Contemporary. The Grand Floridian opened in 1088 at which time the Monorail station was added. You do not have to be a resort guest or going to the parks to ride the monorail. You can park at any of the hotels and go for a ride on the loop. There is a second Monorail route that takes you from ticketing to Epcot. I recently hopped on the monorail to travel to the Grand Floridian to view the annual giant gingerbread house. When I arrived at the Grand Floridian they did not have any guest parking. I drove to the Polynesian which is the next hotel over and from there it was only one quick stop to the Grand Floridian. The Grand Floridian Monorail stop is very elegant as befitting the most expensive Disney hotel. You are let out on the hotel's second floor. If you are entering back into the monorail service area, you will have to go through security first. While it was only one stop to the Grand Floridian, to get back I had to ride the entire loop to the Polynesian. All of the cars were filled so that meant standing room only. I did get to catch the fireworks over the Magic Kingdom. They used to be nightly but since Covid it is only only select nights. Something else I missed was being able to ride in the first Monorail car with the conductor. After a couple of accidents they stopped the practice of letting guests up there. Nevertheless sitting or standing it is always fun to ride the Monorail and this the fanciest station on the loop.

There's security, bag scanning, and the like as you enter the resort and leave it to get on the monorail. You enter the resort and if you go towards the right, you'll encounter a PhotoPass spot that often has Cinderella's shoe as a prop and then you're at their gift shop, which was perfect because we were on the hunt for PINS! This gift shop definitely had a few pins and merch that I hadn't seen yet at other spots and didn't see again throughout all the other places we went, so highly recommend!

Then, there will be 1 ok restaurant, and then everything next to it will be boarded up with homeless zombies wandering back and forth. I've been thinking about moving here, but I need to explore more. I can't believe how much cheaper rent is here than Tampa, but I'm not going to move to save a few hundred bucks a month if I'm going to be surrounded by boarded up buildings with druggie homeless everywhere.
