We just got back from the annual Carson Community Dinner. A spaghetti meal with as many parents,…read morekids and staff as we can find. It is held in the cafeteria and people and children are milling about, eating their pasta, smiling, chatting, laughing and just plain old ENJOYING this simple moment in time. The choir sang ... my heart grew at least 7 sizes. Smiling faces of elementary school kids, dressed up, singing in the round, singing their hearts out. It was better than any Broadway show I've seen. There were 3 young men, two 4th graders and one 5th, and they played the flute, clarinet and sax. There are no words for how cute this was and how hard these boys must have worked. Not to mention Angie Hanning, the music and drama teacher here. She is priceless and the amount of time she puts in with the children is great.Thank you Angie. We had to say good bye to our principal Gwen Gethers... after 30 years with DPS. Gwen will be nearly impossible to replace. It was one of those nights, one of those moments you have... when you "get" just how very lucky and thankful you are. This school has given us so much. A wonderful, safe, creative, education and sense of community beaming with integrity and respect. If you you are shopping around for the best of the best in schools, stop right here.

Wonderful school. Caring teachers, consistent admin team, and great curriculum. We've been here for…read more2 years and our child is thriving. You can get as involved as you would like - plenty of opportunities to engage as a parent.

My child has attended 3 Montessori Schools in 2 different states. This was by far the least…read morehospitable and supportive environment of any school she has attended (Upper Elementary). A couple of things that I would call out. 1. The school itself is very cliquish and allows a "Mean Girls" environment to exist. This is very different than the kind and welcoming cultures we have experienced at other Montessori Schools. 2. Specialization between students is treated as a nuisance by the teachers. On multiple occasions we asked for our child to be challenged more academically after coming home every day in tears about being bored. In each instance the teachers made commitments but then failed to follow through. 3. For the last 4 weeks of Spanish class the teacher had them re watch the same Cinco De Mayo celebration again and again. 4. They used our emergency contact information to solicit money from friends and family. 5. Despite the items above and based in large part on assurances from teachers, we committed to another year at the school to avoid another transition for our child. Once we were locked into the pricey financial investment for the following year, the assurances fell through and the school refused to let use out of our contract despite a questionable ability to meet our child's needs. My advice to those who consider MSD would be to not let the tour fool you. If you are looking for education tailored to your child's needs in a warm environment, this is not the school for you. We are currently paying MSD tuition while sending our daughter to a public school. We get a specialized and tailored learning plan, a teacher that follows through on commitments and and a Spanish class that teaches Spanish. It is worth every penny.

The teacher turn over is very high and the school is academically mediocre. This is a Woke school. If you are OK with CRT, sexual ideology and having your kid and you as a parent singled out for not following the "trend" then it will be right for your family. Otherwise, look elsewhere. The lack of common sense is just absurd. As an example, in a subzero winter day, the kids were FORCED to eat OUTSIDE due to their COVID policy. The kids were freezing and when they tried to come back into the building to warm up, the doors were intentionally locked. When they found an open door, the teacher kicked them out. A complaint with the State of Colorado for child neglect and abuse was filed. I think Stanley used to be great but not anymore. I'm sure the recent positive reviews are from parents that fit the woke bill.

From a personal perspective, I have worked at Stanley for over 20 years. Our team is dedicated and works incredibly hard to meet the needs of each of our students. I wish I could give zero stars. The bullying problem at ISD is out of control, and the school does…read morenext to nothing to truly address it. Their approach is to "talk" to the kids and have them fill out a "Reflection Form", which clearly accomplishes nothing--because the same kids repeat the same bullying behavior the very next week. To make matters worse, the tuition at ISD is incredibly expensive, and for that price, you'd expect a safe and supportive environment. Instead, the teachers' only response is to send emails to the parents, as if that will solve the issue. It feels like a performative, "Nutella Culture" approach: soft on the surface but lacking any real action or accountability. As a parent, it's heartbreaking to see children being mistreated while the administration turns a blind eye to the root of the problem. More and more families are pulling their kids out of ISD, and I'm beginning to understand why. If you care about your child's well-being and a safe school environment, I would look elsewhere.

My daughter was bullied and nothing was done to correct bad behavior of other students until we made very formal and repetitive complaints. Even then, the response was very weak. The elementary school teachers are good (we had 2 kids enrolled - one in elementary and one in middle school). We had to pull them out of school and changed to a better private school in Denver.
