A few weeks ago I attended MCHD's "Learning in Spades" groundbreaking event, showcasing their…read morenewest campus in Stapleton and LOVED the following things: -The passion the founder and teachers have for the school, methodology and the students. The love of what they do is easily recognized through these types of events and their interaction with parents and the local community :) -Their "kid station" they had set up! Unpainted bird houses, paper construction hats, tool shaped bubbles and good old fashioned "dirt" (aka pudding, oreos and gummy worms!) for everyone to enjoy. -Community involvement; not only at the Birch Street location, but now at the new Stapleton campus. MCHD had invited the local families & businesses to the event, and displayed an art installation of shovels to show the support/appreciation for the surrounding community. -The welcoming staff in general. Not having kids of my own (but attending the event with others who did!) i didn't know what to expect and came to find big smiles and open arms as i approached the groundbreaking site. All in all, the groundbreaking event was a success and made me think an institution like MCHD, is just another step in the right direction for childhood education. :)

The staff is fantastic, supportive, and allow my kids to explore what they enjoy doing. All of the teachers we've had so far are awesome. Very professional, yet give the kids personal attention. They are very nurturing and fun. My little one loves school so much that he sometimes actually cry because he can't go full time yet. They come home singing, happy, and have made good friends at school. That's all I can ask for.

Going through the admissions process, it unfortunately became evident that we would not be welcomed or received well at this school. That is fine, I understand that is the case sometimes, but children should not be referred to as "burdens" or "inconveniences". All children should feel loved and supported regardless of where they are in their academic journey. Private schools need to remember that private education is a two way street. We are evaluating you just as much as you are evaluating families. Based on multiple interactions with admissions, I would not enroll my children at this school. I'm sure there are fine people that work here and care about the kids, but when the gate keepers seem judgmental, bias, and indifferent towards your children and situation, it unfortunately deters people. We as prospective parents and to be blunt "strangers" easily gained access to the play area (no security measures to let us in), we we then piled into the Nido room, where there were several babies. We waited with these babies for about 30 minutes before the tour commenced. One baby in particular was left alone in a corner for quite some time, one of the parents touring ended up going over to console the baby. The environment, all wood, all beige. NO COLOR whatsoever, throughout the entire school, Nido, Toddler class and Primary.....bland...No art on the walls, no fun toys, nothing. Natalie the owner kept stressing teaching "practice life", and this is what I saw, cleaning rags and spray bottles, cooking tools, she discussed the virtues flower arranging for quite some time. I saw some beige wooded stacking toys here and there...again the whole room was beige and grey. The thing that disturbed us most was Natalie's aloofness to serious questions and concerns. Example: "In case of emergency, what is the plan to evacuate the children from the building?" Natalie's Answer: "Well toddlers aren't really interested in fire drills."......WHAT???!! Question: How do you vet prospective employees?" Natalie: "well the Montessori community is really small, and we sorta know them, but we do standard state required backgrounds, and my cousin works here." This answer didn't Inspire confidence... what is the interview process?? What qualities do you look for? Question: what is the turnover rate? Natalie's answer: mmmmm.... wellll...mmmmm...so and so is still here, and...hmmmmm...well... she literally stood thinking for 30 seconds...Literally no answer at all!! It's a small school, you should know!! During the tour we observed not only other parents faces rolling their eyes and laughing as Natalie prattled on without looking anyone in the eye...as if she was totally bored and uninterested in us as prospective parents, we also observed several parent leave in the middle of the tour. The one thing Natalie seemed proud of was....the "waiting list" at Highlands Montessori... as if it was a badge of honor. I don't care about your waiting list. Respect my time, every tour you give should be taken seriously with professionalism. PerWe live on Tenneson literally down the block from this school... and would never send our prized possession, our son, to this school. And they have the nerve to ask for $1800 a month??!! Nope, Nah and hell no! . Listen, this was MY EXPERIENCE, and say what you want there is never a second chance for a 1st impression. And we did find a program where I feel my child is nurtured and loved. There was not a single positive review until I wrote this review. Interesting. But carry on.

I asked a simple question about diversity, and the answer I got was a bit shocking and unsettling. I need to feel good about my child's environment and this is subject matter that will always be important to me, my family and my child's future, it should not be taken lightly or joked about. I think the faculty at this school just need some training on certain aspects of what's appropriate and professional when doing these tours.

They treat our kids respectfully, and ensure our kids are treated with respect, kindness, and inclusion. Our first and third grader are absolutely thriving here. Our family has been at Stanley since 2019, and we now have a unique perspective: a Pre-K student, a…read moresixth grader, and a recent Stanley graduate who is a freshman at East High School. Stanley is known for being joyful, warm, and child-centered--and it absolutely is. What can be less visible is how intentional and academically strong the education behind that joy is. Our oldest has been the best evidence for us. He transitioned seamlessly to East, placing into advanced math, English, and Spanish and taking honors-level classes. But Stanley prepared him for much more than coursework. He left understanding how he learns, how to advocate for himself, how to take academic risks, and how to make thoughtful decisions about what he needs to be successful. We're seeing that same development with our sixth grader. His teachers know him deeply as a learner. They have worked to understand how he processes information, scaffolded challenging concepts in reading and math, taught him strategies, and partnered with us to help him reach his potential. He has become a confident self-advocate, both academically and socially. And now, in Pre-K, we're seeing where it begins. Our daughter's teachers are calm, loving, and incredibly skilled with this age group. There is joy and play, but also structure and purposeful, age-appropriate learning. She loves going to school. After watching one child complete Stanley and thrive in high school, choosing Stanley again for our youngest was easy. The joy and academic growth aren't competing priorities at Stanley--they reinforce each other. The result is children who are prepared academically and, just as importantly, know themselves as learners.

She got to take a bunch of AP classes and got good scores. She went on to attend an Ivy League uni. My one negative is that they did not allow her to skip 9th grade math of which 67.45% was a repeat of 8th grade at St Anne's.

Very disappointed in the way that Mike Davis and the Board have dealt with COVID. While other local…read moreschools are normalizing, they are telling parents that kids will be wearing masks and social distancing when school begins in August, 2021. By then, most high-risk folks will have been vaccinated. But, CA continues to put the needs of others over the social and emotional wellbeing of their students. There's talk that the kids will be able to "vaccinate their way out of wearing masks and social distancing in the fall." Some parents are not interested in this possibility until more information about vaccinating younger people becomes known. If you don't want to vaccinate your younger students, I'd look into another school.
