Well, close was a near bullseye on the first shot; only some fine adjustment was needed. Jim took extra care to mount it correctly with a shim that made it very secure. I wanted a WWI Mauser barrel shortened to produce a more modern Scout rifle with a muzzle break. But after considering the rifle's setup and their lath requirements, we decided that I would be better off using another Mauser for my goal. Their shop looks like a place I would love to go thru and see what treasurers are hiding there. At first glance, it looks sort of discombobulatedly organized.. But after glancing around, I can see the method to their organization. In fact, I was looking for an old set of scope rings for an old .22 rifle sold back then by Sears (they don't sell guns anymore). Jim went thru his stash and found one that would work after looking at a half dozen or more. He also told me how to repair a slight split in the stock. Lots of good advice along with the old set of scope rings. Elite also works on other guns besides bolt actions. Also has a stash of old knives and I don't know what else. This is the only air rifle shop in the Treasure Valley and I wish they had some competition…read more I took my break barrel rifle in because I couldn't get the scope to zero. Everything was fine and I was shooting 1/4,1/2in groups at 25yds with a 1in tube scope(BSA Sweet 22). Its a .177 Gamo. I tried out another scope that had a 30mm tube which I had to buy new rings for. It didn't work out so I went back to the BSA and couldn't get it to zero. When all was said and done I had a new scope and rings installed and it still wouldn't zero. I don't know what what was wrong with the scope, rifle or me but I was told the problem was fixed. It wasn't and now I'm out over $300. dollars. I was able to figure it out myself by shimming up the scope on the rear ring and now it shoots like it did when I first got it. The scope they sold me is a really good one but the high price I paid stings. Oh well,live and learn.

So when I asked him if "it is what it is" he said no, if I wanted to wait for him to hire a gunsmith, they would look at it. This is just one example of the many problems. I give off a "left leaning vibe" and I know I'm a minority in the 2A community, however, in all the times I have come in to Idaho Arms & Ammo, I have never been given anything other than a welcoming feeling. I've had other customers talk to me about a project I've had to drop off at the gunsmith, I've had great chats with all of the guys behind the counter, and the professionalism and respect that they've shown me every time I come by is why I will continue to bring them my business any chance I can. There aren't a lot of competent gunsmiths that still operate in their own shop, and considering how little I've had to pay on the handful of things I've dropped off, I'd absolutely say they are worth checking out if you haven't yet. Outside of the gunsmith, if you are new to firearms, uncomfortable by a more intimidating retail environment that has live fire, are looking for a little more 1x1 expertise, or are simply 2A curious, I would absolutely recommend a stop by.
