Look, no one likes their cars towed, but I think how you handle the situation matters. I read their reviews after my wife told me the car got towed while she was at a show. She's Hispanic and was with her mother and sister for a show in Danbury. After reading the reviews I had a vastly different opinion than I do now. I told her I would drive up there so I could handle the situation, just-in-case. Here's what I found out: On the phone they were very pleasant. Seriously. Talk to them like adults, don't blame them for what you did, and you'll be fine. The driver met us at the lot about 5 minutes after we got there. There were two of them, both younger. Also very nice. I told them I had two friends who used to do the same job and loved it, they told me some stories about their job, I paid the fee GOT A RECEIPT, which many of you claim, you never got, and got my car. ZERO scratches on my 2022 Kona. It was NOT broken into. NOTHING was missing. The fee was $190, cash. The bottom line is parking mistakes happen, but don't compound YOUR mistake giving them attitude. As for the racist thing: I don't buy it. My wife, her sister, and mother were all with me when I went, they're all Hispanic, and there was nothing racist at all said. This is a total racquet. Cash only, in business with the restaurant that they tow from. We were legally parked in handicap parking and were towed with zero way to get back home (1 hour away) and had NO choice but to pay their insane fee of $140 to tow my car .5 miles. When we called to get it no one answered, even though they were sitting in the lot. Completely illegal but Danbury police did nothing. This is the biggest racquet on earth. Great service and very professional. I have only but great things to say about their tow truck drivers. They also have some great mechanics and have saved me money and help me out time and time again. I noticed that all the bad reviews come from people that were parking where they shouldn't have. Disgusting people. My car was towed 20 minutes after my permit had expired. I was told I had to pick up my car immediately or the charge would be $150 with an additional $200. I explained how I was on my way to work and I needed to pick it up by 5. I was completely dismissed and told to figure it out myself. When I came to get my car I was told to walk across the street and wait for my car to be unlocked from the gate. I waited 20 minutes for the man to walk over. Insanely rude. Threatened me and made me feel like I was very unimportant. When I went to pick my car up I called, after a lot of grief and about 45-hour later they showed up. Refused to let me leave after I got in my car to get money to pay them... Locked me in the gated lot. I had to call the cops to get out and pay to leave with my car. When I left, one of their tow trucks followed me all the way to Ridgefield before I was able to lose them. Basically they held me captive and then stocked me. After a horrific experience with renting a uhaul cargo van for a move and miscommunication between U-haul and McLaughlin ofnot letting me know that I would be charged $200.00 to open up the vehicle. After Chad popped it in 5 minutes he asked me for $200.00. The apparent "normal" fee is $150.00 but the "boss" told him to charge me more-???? My husband called to complain and wanted an answer as to why he charged me $50 more than regular- the owner told him "I can charge anyone whatever I want, there are no laws in CT" and also called my husband a Fing A- (you all know what I mean). I (it's my fault) left my car at 3 PM a restaurant parking lot across the street and ran across to the ice arena for less than one minute and when I came out they had started the towing process. This is a disgrace of a business. Broke into my friends car when she had permission to be parked in the spot she was parked in. Car was not even on the lift, and they refused to let her move it. Drove away and laughed at her. The place was closed the next day and they tried to charge her for holding her car for two days even though she had no way to retrieve it on Sunday. Although the nature of this business does not usually have positive reviews, I am writing because the operator of the tow truck company is menacing, stalking and predatory with their practices. They supposedly were hired by the board of my condo complex and regularly drive through "looking" for ways to fill their pockets. They do not come when called or when a complaint is made. They make it a common practice to drive around towing cars that are parked in an area they deem to be unlawful. They tow cars that are temporarily parked in areas that have not one "No parking" sign, plus not one community member had complained about the parking. They just stroll through looking for people to take advantage of. They recently attempted to tow a car outside my garage that was there for a short period of time. Again, no complaint was made but the driver said that he "watched" the car from a distance and saw that it was parked for too long, so he decided to start the towing process. He put the car on the hook a refused to put it down without a payment of $110 in CASH! Again there were no No parking signs around and the driver and owner/manager of this company is extremely rude and dismissive. My condo board should also be ashamed of themselves for hiring such a predatory agency and never informed me or my landlord that this could happen within the community. read more

My experience with this company was completely horrible. My car was towed on 11/25/17. I was at fault for parking at an apartment complex parking lot because I wasn't aware of the no parking sign. I arrived to the parking lot as they were getting ready to tow my car. Steven was the guy who towed my car and he claimed it was too late for me to move my car. Steven was absolutely unprofessional and made me feel uncomfortable due to his aggressive way to answer my questions. I asked to pay for the towing right then and there and he claimed he had to take my car to the yard and I would have to pay there. I knew where my car was being towed to because I asked for a card rather than him giving me a card. Once I got to the yard, he started yelling telling me to stop as I wasn't allowed to be in the yard. When I asked him how much it was he said it was $175 plus tax and CASH ONLY. I was not given a receipt for my payment nor was I given change. A company that claims to do business as CASH ONLY is obviously a company not to trust because they can get away from reporting less income to the IRS. This is obviously a scam that they have going on by abusing in charging people unreasonably. If I ever need a tow, I will NEVER do business with McLaughlin and I will ABSOLUTELY not recommend them. read more
