Bunch of scam artists... they don't even deserve a star. How they tow someone at a paid meter is beyond me.

This review refers to the service I received at the location in Newtown, CT (40 S Main St, Newtown,…read moreCT 06470), even though the business may be listed under a different address such as Danbury. My vehicle got stuck in the mud, and I repeatedly asked the workers for the price before they began towing. Each time, they avoided giving a straight answer -- they acted distracted, pretending to be on the phone or simply ignored the question. At no point was I given a clear estimate or explanation of the cost. The tow itself took less than 10 minutes and covered only a few short meters to reach the road -- yet once they finished, one of them told me that "in the best-case scenario" it would cost $5,000. I was absolutely shocked and didn't even know how to respond at that moment. They then informed me they would be taking the vehicle to their lot until the rental company paid them. I refused to leave the car with them, as I felt from the beginning that their behavior was aggressive, non-transparent, and manipulative. When we arrived at their lot, I was told directly that if I wanted my car back right now, I had to pay $1,275 on the spot -- no negotiation. It was a clear ultimatum: pay immediately or lose the car. I had no real choice, so I paid, despite the amount being clearly excessive and unjustified. This experience was outrageous, unethical, and in my opinion, borders on predatory behavior. I strongly urge others to avoid this company at all costs

"If you're considering using Modzelewski's in New Milford, CT, here's my experience: After a crash,…read morethe police called them to tow my vehicle. I wanted it either towed home or for AAA to tow it, but the officer insisted I couldn't drive it because of a broken mirror. The police officer told me to stay away from the tow truck and let him do his job while I was trying to explain that I had the key. Instead of using the key, they pulled the car in 4x4 and while in Park. After everything was said and done, I called and they told me it wasn't drivable due to the fender rubbing on the tire, which was not the truth. Another shop later confirmed it could have been driven, leaving me feeling like I was misled into using their service. They towed the car to their lot on a Friday night. The company is closed on weekends, yet I was charged for storage Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (Monday, I was charged a day storage fee because I didn't call before 8 a.m.). I was also charged $600 for a 12-mile tow. Their reason was that they had to drag it over a stone wall. I'm going back to the scene to see where the stone wall was. Now, if they had pulled it out the way I went in, then yes, but the way it came out was dragged through brush with 1-inch-thick trees still rooted in the ground, which I have video of. You can clearly see how it was pulled out of the woods through brush and trees. I'm not a tow truck driver, but I would have thought that if I was being charged for dragging it over the stone wall, the car would have been pulled back over the wall--not 10 feet in front where the stone disappeared into the earth. The process felt unfair, and I believe I was taken advantage of during an already stressful time. I plan to report my experience to the Department of Motor Vehicles. The tow truck driver was friendly, but overall, I feel this company prioritized profits over customer care."
