This hospital used to be amazing, and I can't say it stands that way now. I was not the one treated, but a family member of mine was, and to keep it short and sweet there was no compassion or consideration for the patients trying to recover and rest here. If it wasn't gossiping gals at the desks like this was high school, it was banging and slamming doors, screaming down hallways, and uncertainty in the staff providing care. I do realize that it can't be catered to one patient, that I know, however, the staff could be nicer, not only to me when I asked questions but for people literally fighting for their lives and trying to get comfortable enough to rest and recover. We spent a week in the hospital with my mother who had a stroke. From the ER to ICU to her 3rd floor room we had the most kind and caring nurses I've ever met. We have been through this scenario multiple times with her over the years at a different Ogden hospital and the same situations with my dad who passed years ago and without family being there 24/7 they would have died in the hospital. At McKay Dee they were so professional and kind I was shocked. Even the CNA's were very competent and kind which made for a constant rotation of people attending to her multitude of needs. Sometimes hospital reviews can be dependent upon the outcome of the patient affecting how family feels about the experience. My mother's outcome isn't great, but it wasn't for lack of care. They just have wonderful people working there. read more

Took my boyfriend to the ER after experiencing lower abdominal pain for a few days. They checked him in immediately and got his vitals. We sat in the waiting room for less than 5 minutes before we were brought back to a room. They did numerous tests and he ended up needing emergency appendix surgery. There was a bit of lag in communication with the diagnosis, as the nurses were already prepping him for surgery when he asked what was going on. They replied with "oh, no one has told you the news yet. You are being prepped for surgery you need your appendix removed asap". We kind of laughed it off but there definitely could've been better communication with the diagnosis by the doctor rather than the fleet of nurses prepping him. All in all, I'm grateful they were able to care for him so quickly. He went home that same night. read more

They are negligent and incompetent! My mom needs to be on oxygen 24/7. Last night they left her off oxygen ALL NIGHT and when she finally noticed and told them (she could have DIED!) they acted like it was no big deal! My granddaughter went to the emergency room on Jan 21, 2026. They were very busy, put her in a dirty room, didn't take care of what she went in for. She went in very sick and left very sick. She saw 3 different doctors, no one took any time with her. Did blood work a CT scan of her legs. The nurses were uncaring and didn't change the bedding. She had a magnesium drip, a nurse turned the drip up to get her out of there and she got sick from that. The last doctor told her she had a lot wrong with her and to follow up with her regular physician. So she spent alot of money, due to no insurance, for nothing. She knew she has bladder cancer and wanted it checked to see if it was spreading and she was told they didn't do that type of test there. She has lost 49 pounds in 3 months. I WOULD NOT TAKE MY DOG there!!! My mom went through similar instances and come to find out, after going to the emergency room. 3 times, she had a fast growing leukemia. Take your loved ones to this hospital at your own risk. They almost killed my dad. My dad went in to the ER from Instacare after already having been diagnosed as having kidney stones. The Instacare referring doctor had called ahead to let the ER at McKay know that we were on our way and all imaging had already been completed. We arrived at the ER, and three hours later we were finally seen by a doctor. They tried to set my dad up to do the exact same imaging that had already been sent over by the Instacare doctor. Once we navigated that blunder, they admitted him to an ER room, and then another 3 hours later to the hospital. A doctor came in the next day, to let my dad know he needed to have his gall bladder removed. Without reviewing his medical history or medications, they scheduled him for the surgery for the next day. Thankfully I knew he'd had a heart attack and a stroke earlier in the year, and asked that they look at his medical history, because he was on blood thinners. Upon review, they discovered he was on the blood thinners. Note that I had provided them a full list of his medications upon being admitted to the hospital, including his blood thinners. Had they done the surgery with him on that medication, it is highly likely that he would have bled to death. They released him from the hospital after inserting a tube into his gall bladder and told him to follow up with his surgeon. We went to the follow up appointment and his doctor rescheduled his surgery, telling him he needed to stop taking his blood thinners a week prior to the surgery. This was again a huge red flag for me, so after leaving the appointment, we called the doctor's office and asked one of the nurses to please look into his medical chart again. The nurse told us WE needed to reach out to my dad's cardiologist, which we pushed back and told the nurse that the SURGEON should do his due diligence in guaranteeing the surgery was safe for my dad, and it was safe for him to come off of the blood thinners. She agreed, and called us back later that day, to inform us that there was a note in bold on his chart from his cardiologist that he was under NO circumstance to come off of the blood thinner for a solid year, which we were 6 months shy of at this point. It noted that the likelihood of another heart attack was extremely high should he be taken off the blood thinners. The surgeon AGAIN could have killed my dad by taking him off a medication he absolutely needed to be on to prevent another heart attack. This hospital and it's providers make me absolutely sick. They do not care about patients, they care about performing surgeries, and the money that comes from performing those surgeries, whether they are in the patient's best interest or not. This was medical malpractice at worst, and disgusting and utterly gross neglect at best. I will never again trust McKayDee with my own or any of my family's medical care after this horrific display of ignorance and disregard for a patient's medical history and lack of due diligence before performing a surgery. McKay and it's providers should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. read more

I've been coming to this hospital for many years to visit doctors, have medical procedures, and visit others who are using the facility. I remember the old McKay and would say that this newer facility is laid out much better. I spend most of my time on the 4th floor, but my husband has recently been visiting the 3rd floor doctors. The pros of this facility are that they have a good mammography department that is professional, quick and efficient as compared to other "mobile" facilities closer to my home. I also like the fact that they have a "one stop shopping" configuration that make is easy to see everyone you may need at one location. To add to the allure, if you can call it that, they have a good cafeteria with many options to choose from. They also have a good fast food type option centrally located on the first floor, where you can grab a quick coffee or a snack. The cons include the fast food smell permeating throughout the facility that can be a bit disturbing at times, especially if you aren't feeling well. Also, the laboratory/registration area is a jumbled nightmare. If you need labs or need to register and check-in, it involves long lines with lots of standing, confused counter help who don't seem to know what you are there for, and a divided seating area that makes it difficult to hear them call you back because you may be seated too far away to hear them. Overall, I think this facility is the best in the local area. read more

They almost killed my wife. She was in the E.R. three times, twice they misdiagnosed what was wrong with her. Finally, on the third visit, the ER Doctor had the sense to call in a specialist. By then, she was in unbearable pain in her head and could not speak in a way that made sense. The problem with her speech was evident on the first E.R. visit. We later found out from a neurologist that speech problems like that are a clear indication of a brain issue. If they had done a cat scan on that first visit, they would have likely identified the infection in her brain that almost killed her. The incompetence demonstrated by the ER Dr. resulted in her having emergency brain surgery, spending a week in ICU, and an extended stay in the hospital. To be honest, this was over 18 months ago. She is still trying to recover from it. To further emphasize the incompetence of this hospital. Today I received a bill from them that should have been paid by the insurance company. But they failed to bill the insurance company within the acceptable billing time frame. So the insurance company will not pay the bill. But I was told that they would accept payments from me. Isn't it kind of them to fail to bill the insurance company, but they are willing to let me pay for their continued mistakes. Today I also received an email from them asking me to fill out a survey. I responded within a few minutes of it hitting my email. The first question was how would I rate my experience from 0 to 5 with 0 being the lowest. As soon as I clicked 0. I received a message that they were no longer accepting input on this survey. I guess thats one way to keep from getting bad results on their surveys. read more

my mother was brought into the ER at Mckay last Tuesday night. Dr Jeffery Caldwell was the one working but we never saw him the whole time my mother was in the ER. the nurse that helped my mom was curt and rude. His report for her said she broke her shoulder but didn't need surgical right away. We are currently sitting in Lake view hospital bc Dr Hendry squeezed her in for a TOTAL SHOULDER REPLACEMENT last night. I was thoroughly frustrated with the help fr the ER last tuesday night. But, that wasn't satisfactory so it was rescheduled to today, the 17th of July. Guess what? Cancelled, because I had eaten 19 hours prior to my appointment. I'm frustrated, it's my fault, which has nothing to do with the Hospital itself. It's a lovely Hospital even though I've only seen the hallway towards the Endoscopy Department and right back out. This has been on my mind so I'm putting it out here. My husband got hurt and we went here since it was close. He had testicular pain because of his accident and he was in pain while freaking out in the bathroom. Two nurses were on the outside walking by and laughing saying he was dramatic. I shoulda grabbed y'all by your hair but I was more concerned about my husband. No one should go here because of this places staff. No sense of sympathy for a men let alone a black man. read more

Checked in at 12:40pm left at 4:45 pm yes it was a long wait I guess this is to be expected overall the staff and my doc were pretty good people I have doc Holliday and RN Hannah which put a rush on things for me to check out since I had to pick up my kids. I have not been to many emergency rooms (thank goodness), but this was by far the slowest one yet. After two hours, we still had not been seen so we left. I accompanied my grandma with a nosebleed that wouldn't stop and we figured her shirt stained with blood would at least help us not be forgotten in the waiting room. It did not help. We watched the people who arrived before us get taken back and then we saw people who arrived after us get taken back. It got to a point where we didn't recognize anyone in the waiting room and at that point we asked to sign our discharge form so we could leave. A fast food burger has never tasted so good as it did right after nearly getting vomited on multiple times in this hospital ER waiting room. Who knew! read more

I wanted to take a minute and talk about my experience with Dr. Wheelwright. My family and I moved to Layton, Utah a few years ago and we weren't exactly sure why. Then we got pregnant with our second child and looked up an OBGYN. We found Dr. Wheelwright and he was getting great reviews online. We scheduled a consultation and he took as much time as we needed to make sure we felt comfortable and listened too. I continued my care with him and as my pregnancy went on, I had some major blood sugar issues, where I would drop dangerously low and food would not always help to bring my levels back up. We worked with Dr. Wheelwright, a Maternal Fetal Medical Specialist, and an Endocrinologist to try and figure out what was going on. (Dr. Wheelwright brought the team of experts together to ensure I was getting the best care). It got so bad that I was not able to manage it at home and Dr. Wheelwright suggested I be checked into the hospital - for 45 days and home health for months - for continuous treatment. (I had to be hooked up to a continuous IV for months 24/7 to pump sugar water into my body). During that time, he had a number of tests done to find out why this was happening and what he could do to keep my baby safe. After my MRI scan, I was diagnosed with Nesidioblastosis (a pancreatic disorder where insulin is fired off at random times to drop my blood sugar) and Hypoglycemia Unawareness (meaning I do not feel symptoms of low blood sugar and could pass out, have seizures or even die). This was a serious diagnosis, especially while I was pregnant. He fought my insurance to get a CGM approved (continuous glucose monitor) for me so my phone would alert me when my levels were starting to drop. It was approved and my life was so much easier. He would check on me daily via text and would visit me every single day while I was in the hospital. He would spend countless hours researching my diagnosis and how to treat it. He involved an entire team of experts, about 5 other doctors who were top of their field to help him manage my symptoms and find a solution. They investigated experimental treatment to see how they could keep me and my baby alive. But Dr. Wheelwright always made suggestions and asked me what I thought. He let me manage my care. Throughout this process, Dr. Wheelwright was so kind and listened to me and my concerns. He always communicated with me. He even installed a blood sugar app on his phone to monitor my levels 24/7 and would get notified if they dropped, even in the middle of the night. He always called the nursing station when that happened to ensure I was taken care of. I have never had a doctor take such good care of me. After a lot of treatment, we were able to keep my baby in until 35 weeks! It was a miracle and the NICU nurses said it was amazing that he did that, because there was no way I was going to make it past 24 weeks, let alone keep me alive as well. We now knew why we moved to Layton, Utah. It was to have him as our doctor. I truly believe if it was anyone else, we would not have had this same ending. He was and is our miracle and my personal hero! He literally saved my life and my baby's life! I cannot say enough good things about him. I would highly recommend him to ANYONE. He deserves a substantial raise and to be recognized world-wide for his amazing work and care. read more

This is a review for whoever is staffing their appointment line at 801-387-3850. First of all, the girl who answered both my calls sounded so bored with her job. I told her I had a Tricare referral for a cardiologist (then gave her the name of the specialist that I was referred to). Instead of guiding me what the protocol is, she snottily told me that they need the referral first and the doctor's notes before she can do anything. Which was fine. I asked her if I can just fax over a copy of the referral and the doctor's notes (which I had on my IHC app) to make it easier-- she then proceeded to give me a deep sigh and say "well, if you want to." What great customer service! I called Tricare to have them re-fax the referral (for all I know, I'm not allowed to fax in my own records). I then called Layton Parkway to have them fax over the doctor's notes. They asked me why they need to fax it...McKay-Dee can access their files. I called back the 801-387-3850 after an hour to let them know that Tricare re-submitted the referral. Same girl, still sounding like she hates her job. I then told her what Layton Pkwy told me and she said "yes, that's right". Then why the hell do you tell me that you need the doctor's notes as well as the referral before you can book me an appointment when you already know you can access it?? She also told me that they will call once they receive the referral. Nice, but you could have given me that info the first time we talked so I don't have to keep bugging you. McKay-Dee hospital and their specialty clinics are great. But people like this ruin the experience for me. read more

It's super unexpected and super new again, and SUPER EXCITING!!! And I couldn't be there!!!!! Boo!!!! I obviously needed to send something. And when I called the receptionist was beyond nice and helpful. She transferred me to the gift shop, unfortunately they were doing like a year end thing. Never again will I go to the ER there. Nothing against their staff but I came in with left shoulder pain and left rib cage pain. Hard to breathe. But my oxygen levels were good. Then I started getting what I felt like were bad cramps in my rib cage and stomach. Told them. They checked my oxygen. Said I was good and to sit down. Called Ogden regional er. They had zero wait in ER. Left and drove my self in severe pain to Ogden regional. Come to find out I had a blood clot on my left lung causing my pain. They get 2 stars because when I walked in they were nice. And when I left they understood and were nice as well. No rudeness. read more

One of the nicer, cleaner hospitals I've been to. Very friendly staff and decent chow in the cafeteria. There are some pretty nice outside areas for grieving people which is sad to say, but nice areas nonetheless. The Guest House is $25 a night and I must say is gorgeous. It is cleaner and better kept than ANY hotel I've stayed in my entire life. I was very impressed with the cleanliness and upkeep of this place. read more

Warning to any women going to Mckay-Dee Hospital ER with severe pain: do not expect to be treated with dignity by Dr. Price or the rest of the ER staff. I waited for over 2 hours in excruciating pain while holding my own urine sample in the waiting room. Once I was finally placed in an ER room Dr. Price asked every ignorant and misogynistic question you can imagine. "Are you sure you aren't on your period?" "Kidney stones don't hurt, you must have a tummy ache." Then after receiving nothing more than an IV with water, I laid in pain for over 3 more hours without a nurse coming to check on me once. After I pressed the call button a 4th time for assistance I was allowed to leave without resolution. I was lucky enough to get into the Tanner clinic instead and received a CT scan right away along with pain reliever. I will never go back to McKay-dee and will make sure no one else I know does either. read more

A year ago I broke my shoulder and was taken by ambulance to McKay-Dee ER. I was seen fairly quickly and the staff was very caring. I was not the best patient because I was in excruciating pain and making quite a bit of noise. I was sent home in a sling with an appointment to see Dr. Kuhen the following week. I've had several major surgeries and this broken shoulder was the most painful thing I've ever experienced. I think I should have been hospitalized immediately because I was unable to take care of myself. When I had the surgery the hospital was awesome. The food service was excellent and in fact was so good I ordered a meal to take home with me. Dr. Kuhen was very caring and his post-op instructions were very clear. If I ever have to be hospitalized again or go to the ER I will definitely go here. My only complaint is that the parking is very difficult. They should have a shuttle service because not everyone is able to walk a long distance. I am elderly and have COPD as well as ambulatory issues. read more

This hospital is AMAZING. However the ER doctor I had last night, was HORRENDOUS. I was doubled over in pain just crying and screaming, and this doctor said and I quote "Take some ibuprofen or Tylenol" after I SPECIFICALLY told him that those types of pain killers do NOT work for me. My nurse Cassie, was freaking awesome!! But this Doctor was awful. McKay-dee Hospital is one of the best in the states though, even though my dr was not great. read more

I broke my neck in a rollover accident at Bear Lake 3 months ago. I was flown to McKay Dee via LifeFlight. The treatment and service I received was top shelf, from the ER to being admitted to the floor to surgery and post-op. The nurses were fantastic! So friendly and helpful. I know I wrote their names down...when I find the list I will edit this review to include them. My neuro surgeon, Dr. Bangerter, is a rock star! 3 months after shattering a cervical vertebrae, I'm back at work with no limitations. My family is indebted to McKay Dee...and I'm not referring to the bill! Other hospitals are closer to us, but McKay Dee is where we will come from now on...but let's hope it's just preventative moving forward! read more

For all things "quick and dirty", ie- ER visits, delivering a baby, and the like... McKay Dee is fine. I've used their ER, & Labor & Delivery; with good results. I mean, they fixed up my broken ribs, and another time they helped me get a baby out, so I think I have a pretty good handle on being able to speak about their services... When I found a lump, my Doctor directed me to McKay Dee Hospital, to have it evaluated. Let the nightmare begin! Their mammogram scheduler treated me like I was an inconvenience. HE was supposed to call ME to set up the appointment, but never did. 3 days after my doctor sent in orders for my work-up, I finally got the scheduler to answer his phone. I am not a "pushover". Even with my firm request, the best the scheduler said he could do was squeeze me in for an appointment in two-weeks' time. The radiologist that told me I had cancer was the most curt doctor I've ever met. No bedside manner, whatsoever. My MRI appointment ran 45 minutes late. And when you're living with stage III, cancer, that's metastasized, combined with the fact that you cannot eat before an MRI... It makes you a very anxious and ornery camper. Add to that, a nurse telling you that dental work is worse than having biopsies performed, only to find yourself sobbing, & shivering uncontrollably after the procedure; because it was SO painful! And you have a recipe for: get-me-the-heck-out-of-here, so I can be treated somewhere else, mentality! And that is precisely what I did. It's not going to be an option for me, but if I were having another baby, I'd do it at McKay Dee. However, if you need long-term cancer care... Go to Huntsman Cancer Institute, already! McKay Dee treats the cancer, not the patient- as a person. read more

When I fist got pregnant I was researching places to go that accommodate an all natural birth. I wanted somewhere not invasive and found a midwifery clinic near Ogden regional. the first appt. was horrendous and after some sulking switched to McKay Dee. I am SO VERY HAPPY I switched. The Ob/Gyn offices on the 4th floor are so nice and thorough and very accepting of all natural births and co- sleeping and all the crunchy parenting I partake in. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they had a natural birth room with a sweet birthing tub. After a few appts. I switched my daughter over to their pediatric clinic on the 4th floor so we could both go to McKay dee. The views are beautiful, the people are nice, there is live piano music and a great cafe and Grounds for coffee in the lobby. When I went into labor nothing went as planned of course. My water broke too soon and i didn't get to use the birthing tub, the natural birth room was occupied, my doctor was out of town and i was having a full blown panic attack. Thankfully everyone was so nice and eased my worries and although my birth did not go as expected it was so easy and comfortable I didn't even care. recovery was quite lovely and the ability to get free room service 6 times a day was awesome when I was starving after 12 hours of labor. There was a lot of security for newborns and a nurse was always close by to help me out. I didn't want to leave but had to head home early to take care of my other kiddo. Overall McKay Dee has been the best hospital I have had to go to and I am so glad i made the swicth. read more

Today I had to take my son 1 year old boy for some lab work. He was also born here. I have also had bring him to the ER 2 times and I would like to say that I have never had a bad experience at this place. We also have used the clinic in the basement of the hospital and again no problems. They took care of my needs during my post natal visit. I stayed for 4 days. I have brought my older son here too and again I have not a single problem. I will say the ER parkin lot was a bit scary in the winter. Today we was hungry and stopped by the cafeteria and got some food and it was a great experience too. Today I have photos of the cafeteria and what they call The Grill. read more
