The previous doc, PA, and NP at Prevene we saw were all knowledgeable but also took the time to listen and do a proper assessment. More often than not, they also thought through root cause possibilities rather than simply looking for a band-aid to slap on via meds or overly simplistic advice. Our last few appointments with the new staff was full of interruptions and more talking than listening, telling me the same thing you could find online or in a book. She shorted me on medicine so I ran out before I was well. I called and got the big runaround. The net result is that I suffered a day or two more than necessary. The medical assistant is really a problem. I called for a refill, got a medical assistant who wasn't on-site but forwarded the message to the Mescal medical assistant. She replied with this completely unresponsive message: "I wanted to inform you that we have received a mychart message that you are requesting a refill on cephalexin (KEFLEX) 500 mg capsule. Is there any reason that you are requesting a refill for this medication?" (I HAD EXPLAINED IN DETAIL WHY IN MY REQUEST. NOT LISTENING!) "Please It us know if there is anything else we can do for you." (THIS IS JUST AN INSULT. THEY KNOW PERFECTLY WELL WHAT WAS WRONG AND WHAT THEY COULD DO FOR ME. WHAT A HORRIBLE THING TO SAY TO A PATIENT WHO HAS BEEN BEGGING FOR A REFILL.) That seems to be the philosophy here, based on my own experience. They give you the very bare minimum and I'm not talking about narcotics but antibiotics that cannot be abused. You can see how horrible this place is by this Yelp page. At least two of the doctors pictured haven't been there in years and the providers who are there aren't pictured. Probably no one takes care of this page; that would be what I would expect.

If you ask around the valley, you'll likely find that many physicians select Mayo for their care, and I think that speaks highly of both the medical knowledge and the professionalism of this group. Dr. Patchett is one of those old-school PCPs who spend time with their patients; I've never felt rushed during my visits with him. He also has an additional appointment with the Department of Integrative Medicine and focuses a lot on nutrition and exercise, which is great for preventing disease before it begins. If you have any sort of musculoskeletal pain as well, he practices osteopathic medicine and does manipulations, which my layperson husband described to me as "massage stretching."
