Cons: small, sand is a bit rough, a few feet out into the water is rocky. Pros: it's a beach downtown! Warm water. Clean and quiet. I'm on the hunt for a beach in mainland USA that is in an urban or downtown walkable area, has warm water, has ground level housing, and basically had everything I want right next to the beach. This is a very rare and difficult thing to find. Miami is all sky scrapers. Southern Cali the water is cold. Northern Cali it's even colder. The gulf has great water but it's often rural, swamp, or spring break. Pan handle is beautiful sand but not much city/urban areas by the water. So, enter Corpus Christi. Downtown, on the water, in the gulf. There are much better beaches if you drive out to the island. But if you want to be in the heart of town, McGee beach gives you a worthwhile option. It's a small little beach that isn't great. The beach itself is a bit lame I guess if you're comparing to proper beaches. The great benefit here is its right next to a park, basketball courts, Whataburger and lots of little businesses in walking area. I was there in the winter and it was very quiet. Just a few people walking here and there. It was first Friday so the night time bright crowds of young people and families. Look, the beach is just a tiny little section of sand and water. But given how unique and rare it is to find this combination of factors: beach, decent size town, downtown, marina, park, and food all in one area, I'm gonna give McGee a cool 4 stars. The vibe is very relaxing and would be perfect for a romantic walk at sunset or a morning bike ride. read more

My family spent the weekend here in Corpus and this beach is right outside the hotel we stayed at. Love how this beach is near downtown along with some food places (including food trucks) and can see all the boats towards the side. It was a cute little beach and didn't have many crowds thankfully so can enjoy it in peace. The sand wasn't too bad honestly though there was some trash along the shoreline which is unfortunate. When you do walk into the water there are shells and rocks that maybe hurt to walk in but once you pass that small section, you just feel nice soft sand on your feet. Just wear water shoes if needed. My nephew did find some little hermit crabs but they never bothered us and we're cool to look at. No issues with any animal thankfully. There are different types of birds flying around we saw including seagulls and a blue heron. If you decide to bring food be careful they will definitely try to get some. Overall it was fun experience. Not the best beach out there but still had fun. read more

The beach is generally pretty clean, and the workers do a great job using tractors to keep it that way. Lately, though, there have been quite a few dead fish washing up on the shore. Also, a group of us who visit the dog park daily have noticed they do not spraying for fleas. Many of our dogs have been itching, even while on medication, They could easily close the park for an hour and treat it with something safe for all dogs, but instead it feels like the issue is being ignored while the dogs continue to suffer with fleas." read more

We weren't here for long. Husband and I are from Austin and had a hotel nearby. Wanted to visit a beach, but it was later at night and the sun was down. We had a movie at 10:30 so we decided to pass the time here. Parking was free and easy to figure out. Lighting was good. This little area was kind of bumpin' so late at night, I was surprised. Although it was a Saturday. Only thing that drove me crazy was these dudes on the electric scooters who were driving them up and down the street and breaking hard and skidding the tires constantly. McGee Beach. If you've ever vacationed in DT Corpus, chances are you have visited most likely out of convenience. If it were during the Summer months, then you would have noticed a flurry of activity. The volume and diversity of events is actually quite impressive and fun. Off peak season, it's fairly quiet and relaxing. Visiting this time of year does expose that it has become a haven for the city's homeless population, but don't let that deter you from visiting - they are actually harmless and mostly decent people just needing a place to congregate and rest. I will say with some of the recent investments made, the quality of the beach has improved significantly in recent years. There are a lot of new and nice amenities. If you find yourself staying in DT Corpus, for whatever reason, take a stroll here. I know you'll find it to be a really nice experience! read more

My boyfriend and I wanted to check out Corpus Christi beach for the first time this past weekend and sadly to say it was one of the worse beaches we've been to. I wanted to be close to our hotel so just decided to goto this beach which was close by and it turns out to be a big mistake. First of all, the beach water was brown just like Galveston beaches. the sand was also dark and rough and so many sea shells and rocks they hurt your feet. There's so much debris in the water with seaweed, shells, trash looking stuff, and most of all there's sea bugs and jellyfish everywhere. I ended up getting attacked with some kind of sea bugs or jellyfish it stung me all over my back and my legs. I had bites all over and they were stinging and itchy and very irritating. So I had to quickly get out and run to rinse off with fresh water and had to go back to the hotel to take shower and get treated with medicine. It was the most horrible experience I have ever had at a beach in my life and I've been to so many beached before and I never had anything attack me and bite me. I was really hoping to have a good time at Corpus Christi for the first time but turned out to a major nightmare I will never forget. Now I am afraid of going into beach water with this trauma. I definitely do not recommend McGee beach or any other beaches here in Texas. Too dirty, too much crap in the water too dangerous. read more

Me and the family enjoyed coming out here, I honestly believe by far from all the beaches; this one has the most to offer. I saw a playground in the area, they had a live volleyball tournament on the beach w/ music. The restrooms are not that far and look really nice too. There is tons of sand and room to sit down wherever you want. I really enjoyed my Time here at McGee beach and I can defiantly say so did my family. read more

Public beach. There are showers right on the beach to rinse off. There is also bathrooms and rinse off showers across the road. The parking is free, but can be hard to find a spot at prime times. We went at 730 in the evening to walk along the waters edge and did not have a problem. read more

Cute beach and worth a stop. It's quite clean and plenty of shoreline for people to spread out. There are beach chairs, umbrellas and cabanas to rent. The lifeguard seems to take their job seriously, which is great to see. There are tons of families here and the water is very shallow so it's very family friendly for little ones. The only downside I'd say is that we've been here for about 2 hours and we've seen 8 different people go to the lifeguard stand for jellyfish stings. Be cautious!! read more

Came here for a fun beach experience with my family back in August and unfortunately was ready to leave after the many cars being broken into. Do not come here when it's not busy. Who knows it might be even worse with the crime when it's even busier. There wasn't too many jelly fish when we came. The beach had a lot of trash in the sands. Not like a landfill but enough you can tell this place wasn't kept up. During our time here there where sharks swimming close by. But hey it's the ocean and it's their environment. Not my reason for the low rating. My reason for the low rating was the crime. It's pretty sad you can't enjoy time here without worrying about your vehicle being broken into. Definitely do not leave your important/valuable belongings in your vehicle while visiting here. Stay alert, stay alive my friends. Be watchful of your surroundings while you are here. read more

I really enjoy this beach. It's convenient to get to, lots of room to spread out, and it was surprisingly clean both days I was here. There were a few people, but honestly the beach is so large and roomy that there could have been twice as many folks and you would still have plenty of space. There's a restaurant/bar to one end of the beach, so you can grab a drink or bite to eat without leaving the sand. Bring a snack and a bottle of water, and of course a towel and swim suit and you're in for a great day in the sun. read more

Downtown beach! This is the beach that's the closest to the mega-hotels in downtown Corpus Christi. They have a nice sandy beach, with public showers, umbrellas and beach chairs available for rent, and a safe place to swim. There's a nice, new playground for the kids, and a bunch of palm trees to offer some shade. This beach is not ADA compliant, as you have to go down the steps along the beach wall to get down here, and it's impassible in a wheelchair. The beach is free, and parking is plentiful around here. There's a nice, wide sidewalk to go roller skating or biking on. The path runs all in front of the beach along Shoreline Blvd. At one end of the park is a restaurant that will gladly serve you grub to go to take out on the beach. There can be jellyfish out here, so watch it! They often look like floating plastic bags. It's a nice, picturesque beach, without a lot of waves or anything, since it is not directly on the gulf, it's on the Corpus Christi Bay. read more

MUST READ IF YOU'RE GOING HERE!!! Here's the thing,this beach is horrible...but the reason why I gave it 3 starts is because i had fun...JELLYFISH HUNTING! Yea,that's right...jellyfish hunting.The beach is also clustered with depressions and beside them ; pebbles and rocks. If you're coming here please bring a bucket or any apparatus to catch jelly fish with and if you're getting in the water I advise you wear clothing that covers most of your body so the stings won't sting that much. It's a great place to stack up,settle down and enjoy the sight.There is also a really good place to run beside the beach.If you're in Corpus and looking for a beach I don't really recommend this beach but if the other beaches are crowded it's great to stop by. read more

I thought the beach was pretty decent. I mean let's face it Corpus is not South Padre and Texas is not Southern California or Florida. The beach was clean and the weather was nice. No jellyfish, no sharks, no problem with auto theft. HOWEVER, what really bothered me was the sign i saw further down the beach after we had already gone swimming: Contact with water can cause illnesses. Bacteria in water exceed health standards. Now that is pretty bad. Why weren't these signs all over the beach? Kind of yuck! read more

This beach was recommended to us because it had calmer waters for our kids. However, I would not recommend this beach if you want to spend the day at the beach with the family. Anyone with kids knows that when you anywhere with them, there is always "stuff" to take with you, and with a 20 month old and a 6 year old we are no exception; towels, chairs, sun shelter, cooler, sand/water toys, incidentals, etc. Don't get me wrong, this beach is lovely with lots of loose, clean sand and calm water, but it is a nightmare if you bring anything substantial with you. Unless you set up right next to the pier, you have to trudge quite a distance through very loose and searing hot sand, with kids and stuff in tow, to get a good spot. We had a wagon to tote our stuff and there were NO ramps to get onto the beach. The entire beach is surrounded by a huge wall with steps. I would highly recommend getting a beach parking permit ($12 and its good until the end of the calendar year) and head on over to the Packery Channel off Access Road 4. We were able to back our vehicle to a great spot right on the beach. It has probably the cleanest water I have ever seen in Texas off the Gulf of Mexico. The kids had a blast splashing in the waves and digging in the sand. For families, plan to get there earlier in the day so you can leave before the party goers start rolling in. We left around 6pm when several cars full of younger adults (with kids, sadly) arrived with backseats full of alcohol and beer, blaring music and profanities. read more
