But after my first divorce, Arusyak advised me to get a prenuptial agreement if I ever got married again. 4yrs later the prenuptial agreement was enforced and my divorce was handled with zero dollars exchanged and a simple dissolution. Even though I had the agreement in place it was still a scary process but Arusyak assured me & let me know upfront the worst and best case scenario so I knew what to expect. And in my case, it turned out to be the best-case scenario due to the prenuptial agreement. More of the story is to hire Arusyak and her team at Bay Area Law Group for all your family law issues. Kerry Sykes has handled estate planning needs for me and my husband for over 20 years, and she just…read moreupdated our wills, trust and Durable Powers of Attorney for Health Care. We are both attorneys, but estate planning is not our field of expertise, and we only have confidence in someone who is a certified legal specialist in Estate Planning, Trusts and Probate, because we know that this certification is not easy to get--you have to really know your stuff and be up to date on every change in the law. In addition to that certification, here's why we recommend her so highly: 1) She listens with both ears. She is not just waiting to talk and impress you with how much more she knows than you do. If you are a woman with her own business, she listens to YOU about that, and doesn't direct all the business questions to your husband just because he's the guy in the room. 2) She has a great depth of knowledge about tax law and how to avoid the pitfalls of being taxed more than necessary after death. 3) She doesn't recommend anything more complicated than it needs to be. If simple will work, she goes for simple; if not, she explains why it might be better to go up a step (or two) in complexity. 4) She is really, really smart, but she explains things in ways that are easy to understand, and she's not patronizing. If you tell her you didn't understand the first time, she doesn't just repeat the initial explanation, but rephrases it in a way that's easier to comprehend (with visuals, if you need them). 5) She tells you that you have options, and what the advantages and disadvantages are for each one. She ties these options in to what you've told her about your particular family situation. 6) She has a sense of humor, which makes thinking about why you need a will less stressful. We didn't hesitate to recommend her to our own children, because we know she is honest and reliable. 7) Her offices are on West Portal, not downtown, and parking is easy. They are not in a fancy glass high rise where you know the fees will be high because she has to pay an exorbitant rent. 8) Her fees are very reasonable. You will not get this sort of expertise from any attorney in San Francisco for less than she charges. Pay more at a big downtown firm if you like, but you won't do better than this for estate planning no matter where you go.

The first thing I appreciate about Mr. Peterson is that he is not one of those lawyers who wants to get you into some complicated lawsuit so he can bill hundreds of hours. He always finds the simplest solution and explains what the best settlement will be, and then gets the potential disputes solved with a minimum of costs to you. A good lawyer should be all about finding practical solutions that work for both sides, and Peterson does this. He has a modest office on Monterey Boulevard, which is nice because his overhead is low and he can charge you less. The law is complicated! Mr Peterson will clarify and simplify it for you. Whatever your issue is, you will be better off after a consultation with Mr. Peterson.

I am forever grateful to Sandy, the conduit to the most healing experience of my life…read more In late 2022, I learned that California had enacted a lift of the statute of limitations for civil suits against perpetrators of childhood sexual assault and the organizations that enabled them. This presented an unexpected opportunity to finally stand up for my younger self. Sandy Speed took my case on contingency and filed against the perpetrator and three long-standing, revered national organizations in my sport. It was just Sandy against their battalion of attorneys. She held their feet to the fire, outsmarted them at every turn, and ultimately secured a very large settlement. As nice as the financial aspect is, for me this was about not letting them get away with it. It was about that 13-to-16-year-old girl who had her refuge, passion, identity, and sense of safety in the world stolen from her, and the fallout the assault had on the trajectory of my life. Sandy has a deep understanding of the lasting impact of sexual assault and understands these cases are no cakewalk for her clients. She only reached out when she needed something from me, but was always super responsive to any inquiries. You'll know from your first conversation with Sandy that you have someone in your corner who genuinely wants justice for you. And she is masterful at doing all that she can to get it.

For so long, I felt helpless watching her struggle with what happened to her, seeing her doubt herself and wondering if anyone would ever truly listen. Then you came into our lives, and everything changed. From our very first meeting, you treated her with such respect and dignity. You listened to her story - really listened - and never once made her feel like she had to prove herself to you. As a mother, seeing someone believe in my child the way you did was everything. Watching you fight so fiercely for her rights and her truth last week gave both of us hope that we haven't had during some really dark moments over the past few years. You didn't just handle her case - you cared about her as a person, and that made all the difference. This settlement isn't just about money - it's about my daughter getting the acknowledgment she needed to start truly healing. Thank you, Sandy, for giving my daughter her voice back and for fighting like hell to make sure justice was done. You've been a blessing to our family.

I was on the lookout for a new attorney to help me update a prior estate plan after getting married last year, having found my previous attorney well-informed, but not as communicative and articulate/descriptive as I would have liked for the answers I was seeking. I came across Jelena and several other attorneys through my legal insurance network, and after having had an initial chat with them all, found it pretty easy to move forward with her, having appreciated how well she communicated her ideas and suggestions, as well as the particular guidance path she recommended. A few forms and meetings later, my plan was done and updated, and seemingly (to my untrained legal eye) much more comprehensive than my prior one. After everything is complete, she'll send you docs that are easy to update as needed, as well as detailed instructions for any next steps needed to finish documenting/setting up your estate. Overall, she's a great attorney to work with, who's well-informed and willing to explain whatever you have questions about, but also very honest about when she doesn't know the answer to something, which she'll also quickly research and follow up with you on: something far more preferable than a professional that'd just pretend to know everything. Highly recommend!
