Dirty and unfriendly. Had to ask for a rag to clean the table... we were the only one on the restaurant

I've been enjoying trying out different coffee shops in the Peoria area and this time I brought my…read moresister along! This is my very first time visiting Café Santa Rosa! When we arrived, there was only one other customer in the shop, so it was very quiet and relaxed. The music was playing but it was almost to quiet. We did get there right around 2:30 and they close at 3:00 p.m. so that could be why they weren't busy at all. Only one other customer came in while we drink our coffee. I was hoping to try one of their chocolate croissants, but they were out at the time. I ordered the winter spice latte, and my sister ordered the hot mocha latte. I have to say, my favorite part of the entire visit was the atmosphere. The space is absolutely beautiful -- warm, industrial, and rustic all at the same time. The wood accents paired with the exposed ceilings, soft lighting, and open layout make it feel welcoming while still being really unique. There's so much room, and it feels like a place where you could comfortably sit and hang out for a while with friends. One of the coolest little details was spotting an old dumbwaiter -- you really don't see those very often anymore, and it added even more character to the space. I also loved learning that they have a bar-style setup on the other side of the restaurant a few nights a week, which is a fun and unexpected touch. Another special feature is that their coffee comes straight from Colombia, and you could truly taste the quality. They've been in this location here for about 2 years and since the building is bigger I hope that they are getting a lot more customers but I'm not sure. Overall, it's a really neat spot with a great vibe, and it's worth checking out.

Cafe Santa Rosa, round two!…read more Moving from their Junction City location to a former performing arts center, Cafe Santa Rosa is bigger, spacier, and still strong on the flavor. Maria and I dropped in on a quiet Monday to a crowded coffeehouse. This was both our first time visiting this building, even when it was a performing arts center. It was busy with a bunch of business people setting up a meeting upstairs and others taking up tables with laptops and bags. We ordered our drinks and snagged a seat by the stage area. The menu here seems to be about the same as their prior location in the Junction City. I snagged a large cold brew and some pumpkin spice cake balls. Maria didn't want a snack so I got to enjoy the tasty cake treats to myself and what a treat they were. I was sad that it was only two as for the price, 4 would've been perfect, imo. My coffee (and Maria's) was super strong. This lines up with my prior experiences with Cafe Santa Rosa. Maria actually had to grab some more ice to help water her drink down so she could enjoy it. The strong bitter doesn't bother me but do note it should you check this place out. It's nice to see a coffeehouse expand and grow instead of shutting down. This building is large and offers plenty of space for activities. I am guessing they will have shows and events once they are up and running for awhile. The upstairs area seems great for private events and there is even a bar area. I'll have to keep an eye out on events they may hold here. If you are familiar with Cafe Santa Rosa, this is more of the same but spacier. If you are new to their blend of coffee, be prepared for the extra hit their coffee provides.

MadMac's: Fury Roasted…read more Maria and I popped in on a day that was supposed to be rainy and storm but ended up nice and sunny. We both hadn't heard about this place until I did some Googling and we made quick plans to visit it at our earliest convenience. We just happened to pick a day when they were doing road construction and I wasn't sure I would even be able to get in but there were other cars parked there so I knew coffee was soon in my future. The parking lot itself was very small and shared with the other businesses in this... interesting building. We parked and headed in and I was instantly feeling like we were in a house converted into a coffeehouse. No complaints there as that is one of my favorite aesthetics for a place that slings caffeine. The interior is rather small and tight but the decor was a homerun. I loved the things hanging on the wall, the cork coasters with fun little coffee sayings, the general vibe of it all tied together. Maria ordered her latte and I ordered my usual Americano and we took the seats next to the front door. It didn't take long to get our drinks and we settled in to our usual coffee hangout routine. While I loved the coffeehouse, I was indifferent on my drink. It wasn't as bitter as I usually like and had a weird... I don't know... diluted sweetness to it. While I always enjoy what I get to a certain extent, I would definitely ordered something different if I ever came back. If you are hungry, they don't have a food menu but there was some slices of cake or baked goods on hand. Not really sure what they were as there was no labeling to identify what they were (aside from one being GF, which would be for Gluten Free). Luckily, I really enjoyed the coffeehouse itself despite the cramped lounge/parking lot and the lackluster (in my opinion) Americano. It's a place I wouldn't hesitate to come back to for a caffeine fix.
