Stopped by Jolly Cone On The Current and ordered two cheeseburgers, fries, and root beers. The…read moreservice was quick, which was a plus, but the food was underwhelming. The cheeseburgers were average at best, with dry buns that didn't seem very fresh. The fries were decent, but nothing standout. Overall, the prices felt inflated compared to the quality and portion sizes. Based on that, we decided to skip dessert and head elsewhere for something more consistent and reliable.

I drive from TN to MO often and I have stopped here many times when I am coming through van buren, specifically for a banana split or a cherry sprite which are both great. The food is good and worth the stop! This little joint is the most authentic Van Buren experience you're going to get! The reason I am truly writing this review is because we made a routine stop today and my little 18mo old son fell in the parking lot (in true little boy fashion he just got ahead of himself and tripped) well he ended up scraping both of his knees pretty good. As not to cause a scene, my wife took him over to the side to comfort him while I looked for some napkins to clean up his knees. Before I could even get back to them the owners were standing with my wife with some basic first aid supplies and bandaids making sure my little boy was okay. This was above and beyond customer service and I really truly appreciated it. Very kind people 10/10 will be stopping again real soon.

I was surprised to see this business in this small town. I hope they can generate enough business to maintain during the slow months. I was not here to throw any axes but to eat breakfast. I love having breakfast at local establishments when I'm traveling. I was very excited when I saw the ax throwing was also a restaurant. I was even more excited to know there wasn't any ax throwing during my dining hours. lol. The food was very good. They had a limited menu but it covered all the bases. The server was nice and friendly. The restaurant was not busy when I was there but it did take forever for my food to arrive. I was actually getting concerned they had forgotten about me. When the food did arrive it was yummy. I ordered a breakfast platter and it did not disappoint. There is plenty of room in this restaurant. It is very spacious and easy accessible. The seating area is one big room so there are no separate dining areas. You can see the ax throwing area from the eating area. The prices seemed reasonable breakfast at a small restaurant in a small town. Prices were right in line. Highly recommended dining establishment. One note of caveat... I think in the off season they do not have regular dining hours. Would check before heading over.

But I really want to compliment our waitress Justine, she worked so hard to keep all of her tables happy, was scooping ice cream, filling drinks, and she was so nice! It's been a long time since we've stayed at the Landing. Has been rebuilt a couple times and is a…read morevery nice setting. We had a King room that was roomy and comfortable with parking nearby. Great view of the Current River. Bed was comfortable and room location was pretty quiet, surprisingly. Only downsides were the A/C was noisy and the faux wood floors were being cleaned with some product that made them kinda sticky. We liked the Kuerig coffee maker in the room along with the nice size fridge. Check in experience was good too with friendly staff. We made reservations with a phone call and all went to expectation. Their restaurant onsite is The Blue Heron and it was good as well. Overall we had a good experience and will likely stay again.

Pros: modern, spacious rooms (incl. suites), mini-refrig, some with microwave, no bugs/spiders,…read morelink-up with float services, private river-front gravel bar, Jingles-the-Friendly-Siamese cat (loves kids), friendly staff, on-site good restaurant (evening only), comfortable mattresses, big balconies with Adirondack chairs, OK convenience store, AT&T reception very good, only partial river view from some rooms. For addicts, booze and pot close by. Cons: typical noisy blowy HVac wall units, no house phone in rooms, no luggage help, walk to Rose Cliff Lodge for ice, no cooking or fires allowed anywhere, max. 2-story walk ups depending on room (no elevators), pricey, noise from big rigs on Hwy 60 bridge (less noise in River Center), no house computer, no playground/River here a bit fast for younger kids to play in. The biggest problem with this otherwise quality property was (officially anyway) a "no cancellation/refund/credit" policy. They don't charge your card until you check in, so it is unclear how rigidly enforced this policy is (+ there's a $15 cancel fee per room/day). We got flooded out over July 2025 weekend (Park Service closes the river if it gets over 6 feet - follow this on NOAA website/river level Van Buren MO). We elected to stay regardless (kids are more flexible and inventive than adults!) The Landing is highly dependent on the weather and have a limited season, so they really can't insure your stay. Still, they should have an official credit option for a future stay credit. In Van Buren: "The" Mexican restaurant serves huge good portions. The steaks at the Landing's Blue Heron come out mooing - you may need to have them touched up. Best breakfast is at the Ranch House. No nightlife. In area: Big Spring is spectacular, floating is worth the price, but best in a canoe unless you like cold butt (there's an enormous cave upstream from Van Buren), little funky animal park is pricey but fun for kids. For floating, IMHO the best stretch of the Current is Aker's Ferry to Round Spring, and do it in drought after July 4 for clear water and to minimize deer flies and horse flies.
