This place was the only lunch place open with enough seating for a large group on a Saturday afternoon, which was so crazy to me. It was such a hot day outside so sitting outside to eat was a little uncomfortable. They have good food however their ice cream is definitely their strong suit, hence the name. Only had ice cream, which was FABULOUS, so don't feel really qualified to give a full five stars... Order taking was quick and easy. They're no averse to making modifications, which is nice. Vibes of Dairy Queen but higher quality in a small town. You know what place is worthy to go to if there's a line for food every moment it's open. We came for a family float/ canoe trip and decided Dairy Shack was somewhere we had to stop. Partly due to the fact we brought our dog but we didn't need to worry since Dairy Schack has only outdoor seating aka dog friendly. I don't even know where to begin. If you're a kid of the 80s or 90s, this will send you down memory lane. The burgers you used to get at your local pharmacy or at Woolworths are just like how they're served here. Get yourself a milkshake and you're in heaven. The menu is extensive, prices are reminiscent of the past, and the service is great. This is a spot all the locals frequent, and with good reason. Seating is set off to the side under a big pavilion, which is nice and shady. Overall, I'd come back to this part of Missouri just for the Dairy Shack. read more

An Eminence staple. This place is exactly what you want after a long day on the river. Good greasy burgers and custard

Everyone in Eminence, who comes to Eminence, or even thinks about Eminence needs a Rootwad sandwich! Dairy Shack's signature pulled pork and cole slaw creation (the owner's name, coincidentally, is Cole) which is named for a tree with a root tangle in the nearby rivers. The Younger family and employees make coming here a must do--for lunch or a snack. One of the few places I know where you can get a half a banana split! I'm not sure that the word ambiance applies to a home-town semi- fast food (cooked to order) ice cream stop and more. But it's good eatin' and people at the picnic tables will answer and chat if you talk with them. Wonderful place! read more

Great fun place to stop after playing on the river. The service is slow, since it's very popular. There aren't many choices in town, so locals eat here too. Can be hard to park, but it's such a small town that you can walk. Although it's mainly an ice cream stand, with floats, sundaes, cones, etc. The burgers and fresh fried snacks are delicious too. Walk up window to order. There was always a line when we drove by but it moved fast enough when we ate there. Find a seat on the side and they call your name when your order is ready. They called us for our drinks first then the food a couple minutes later. Everything was fresh and hot. I had the pork tenderloin sandwich with tater tots and no complaints. They did get the toppings on my wife's burger wrong and we didn't try to correct it. We topped it off with an avalanche (DQ Blizzard equivalent) which did not disappoint. Food, service, and prices are great! We were in town looking for a dining option while exploring the area. I had the Northern Burger, Onion Rings, and Blackberry Cobbler. Wife and Kids tried the chicken strip dinner, pizza burger, shakes, and peanut butter brownie. All of it was excellent. Place is super clean, we noticed staff fully scrubbing down the tables and cleaning the outside dinning area right before opening. Had a lunch and dinner there on different days. So by dangerous accident we rented an Airbnb behind Dairy Shack. We have been here for 3 days and we have been to Dairy Shack 4 times. The food is great--popcorn shrimp, fried mushrooms, burgers, hot dogs, salads (I don't think people come here for salads), sandwiches and more! Save room for dessert--ice cream, sundaes, malts, milkshakes--basically anything you could want from an ice cream shop. My son went crazy over the flavor bursts on the soft serve, and I enjoyed the dips. The cherry on top of the Dairy Shack sundae is the pricing! You can get a (very large) baby cone for .99. These are even better than pre-COVID world prices. These are like pre-Y2K food prices! Stop in, you won't be disappointed (unless you are one a diet, then steer clear). read more
