The patio also has a large Connect 4 that people can play while waiting for their food and drinks. It's such a family friendly space (dogs too!) and we feel Incredibly welcome every time we visit. Service was great at both the counter and the table. I had the Split & Melt which was delicious. Crispy smash patties, gooey cheese, buttery bread. I also opted to add heirloom tomato to it which added a nice brightness to it. My mom ordered the double, which she said was amazing. We ordered a variety of sides to share. The mac and cheese was amazing, the onion rings were flavorful and crispy, and the fries were also very well seasoned and crispy. Overall, everything was a 10/10. Also, I loved that their fountain sodas are Excel sodas. Will definitely be back to try their draft beers and more burgers!

You order at the counter, and then your food is brought to your table hot and fresh. I ordered the Double Burger with cheddar and all the fixin's, along with some of their special sauce. I also got a side of the sweet potato tots and the "Oreo Speedwagon" milkshake. My burger was cooked perfectly and loaded up with toppings, and their special sauce is light and mustardy. The sweet potato tots were warm and crispy, and the milkshake washed everything down perfectly. I'd absolutely recommend this spot to visitors and locals alike. After looking at a handful of menus on the street, we de died on Good Company. Service was great. Very attentive. They immediately asked if we had any dietary issues and then promptly after hearing out needs, made a handful of recommendations. We started with the cauliflower. It was excellent the light sauce and pine nuts really made this dish top notch. The vegetarian and GF adults then split the Caesar salad and the squash seasonal salad. Both were so flavorful, filling and entirely unique. If you're a salad eater, I'd highly recommend either one of these. The carnivore in our group ordered the Italian beef with French fries. Unfortunately they were out of the Italian beef so he had to settle on the wings. The wings were a solid lunch after an appetizer, but the sauce was not what was expected. Overall, the menu is simple, maybe 15 items in total and they probably need to have more for carnivores who are looking for something other than a hamburger and not too heavy for lunch. But for the other 2 in our group, we walked out super satisfied.

There were a few people in the dining area and a person at the bar. Our host welcomed us and asked if we had a reservation, we did not. He led us to a table and indicated our server would be with us shortly. We reviewed the menu and reading about them and their philosophy, the menu, the drink options and so forth. One of the staff behind the bar came and took our order. I stuck with water and we ordered chicken wings to share, I also got the Cucumber Tomato Salad for my meal, it sounded so fresh! Chicken wings came out fairly quick; delivered by the host who seated us. They were really good. The skin was crisp and the buffalo sauce a good flavor. We both enjoyed them. They came with a Green Goddess dressing, I am not a fan of that dressing, but the wings were good on their own. My salad came out and it was as refreshing as it sounded! It was the half salad, and it was a generous portion. Cornichon, Oven-Roasted Tomato, Crispy Shallot, Chopped Egg, and Dill Buttermilk dressing. It was perfectly dressed, and great proportions on the ingredients. My daughter ordered the Patty Melt advertised on Union Loafers bread and that clinched it for her. She indicated it was very good. The food was delivered by someone other than our server. After our food was delivered no one came back to check on us and we waited quite a while before we could get someone's attention to bring boxes and our check. While we were waiting the employees were setting up for dinner service, adding mini aperitif style glasses and then a couple came in for an early dinner and their server was so awesome, he came over and chatted with them offering samples of some kind of alcohol, he was so friendly! If we had been a little later and had him for a server, it would have changed our whole experience! We both commented that on our way out after we had eventually got settled up

When you enter Jack Nolen's it prides itself on the dive bar vibe in all the good ways. The bar, dining area, and restrooms are clean and well-kept. Menu is mostly burgers, sandwiches, and their unique take on French fries and a few other unique sides. It all sounded good. Ultimately I had to try a burger and fries and they both met the high expectations I had going into this place (they're described as having the best smash burgers in STL). The beer was good - cold, crisp - you can tell the draft lines are clean. However the most impressive thing about this establishment was the staff (Jen & Kristen, maybe?). Efficient. Courteous. Very friendly. Treated the guests like an actual guest. Very well done. If I had to offer a criticism about this place, it seems if you don't sit at the bar, you have to place your food and drink orders at the bar (rather than having a server). I do believe they run your food though.

It's juicy, delicious, and absolutely lives up to the hype. If you consider yourself a burger connoisseur, you have to stop in and rank it for yourself. They offer other menu options, but let's be honest: most people are coming for the burger, and the impressive selection of fries. The CBGB fries are legit, loaded with grilled onions, chopped bacon, and a house-made beer cheese sauce featuring Busch beer. The deviled egg appetizer is another must. I'm not sure what kind of magic they use because the ingredients are very traditional. Maybe it's the love they put into making them, the cold beer you're drinking when they arrive, or the old-school neighborhood bar you're sitting in. Whatever it is, it works. Jack Nolen's is a true Soulard gem and a must-visit for anyone searching for one of the best burgers in St. Louis.

The worst aspect is the ventilation which needs much work. We came out smelling so greasy and smokey. We seated ourselves and waited a minute for our waitress to assist us. She kept saying she was new, that it was like her second day or something and didn't quite know the menu. She also didn't know how to make a drink, with that being the case why are you allowed to make any cocktails. If you have a limited cocktail menu but an extensive bar selection you would think their cocktail specials were on point. Nooooo. The BF tried a margarita special and it was awful. I tried a special crafted cocktail that was cool that our waitress asked the guy bartending to specially make because she had no clue about what I was talking about. I hate going to a spot where I make drinks better than the bartenders on hand and that's your job. The BF ordered the the garlic burger and I ordered the Korean wings which NEVER came out because our waitress forgot to order them. So I shared food with the BF. The burger was extremely underwhelming, not seasoned at all. How do you specialize in burgers and mess that up. The best item we ate was the fries and the comedy show was good. I love dinner and entertainment. We are burger enthusiast and if this what your restaurant specializes in I expect to be wowed. A guy from my running group asked me which way it was, and I was like, "Uh, I think it's that way." A few places on this strip all have similar awnings. I thought I was lucky finding such a good spot. By the time I was done with my run, maybe an hour later, all of Clayton was an absolute ghost town. It makes me wonder what they'd have to put here to get people to visit Clayton during the evening, a 7 Brew? Inside is more along the lines of a bar, with a number of beers on tap and decor that may have been purchased from a Kohl's. I appreciated the way they had the beers on tap written on the wall in ginormous fonts, and I'm sure the elderly are similarly appreciative. Sometimes you ask these waiters what beers they have on tap and they act like they're doing you a favor by listing them. I asked this hillbilly they've got waiting tables at the Syberg's over on Dorsett what beers they have on tap, and he just said they have 30 of them. Uh, thanks? I wonder if he counted them. I went with the 4 Hands Incarnation, which I have at least once a week, because I get it for free. It seemed less "high gravity" than it does when you get it in the tall cans.Hmm... Usually, my move at these burger places is to order a bacon cheeseburger or a specialty burger that has bacon on it. 5 Star had such a burger listed first on their menu, making my choice easy enough. I toyed with the idea of ordering the Green Chile Cheeseburger, but not seriously. I wasn't sure what the green chiles would taste like, and what if they turned out to be gross? The Blue Ribbon Burger comes with bacon, port-braised onions and Gorgonzola cheese, along with LTOP. No, that's not a typo. You get thinly sliced red onions in addition to the port-braised onions. It feels weirdly generous of them, even though they're just onions, and all the fresh toppings are of a seemingly high quality. I was more ambivalent about the toppings specific to the Blue Ribbon Burger. I didn't dislike them, but I was less impressed by them than I would have expected. The bacon was good, but it was in crumbles and I think I would have liked it more if it were in thick, crispy strips. No Diddy. The cheese was either not flavorful enough or in not abundant enough quantity to be much of a factor. The onions, on the other hand, provided a nice flavor kick--less tart than I expected, more along the lines of the onions in a french onion soup. The fries were kinda whatever. They were good, being french fries and all, but not as gourmet as the menu would have you think. And they don't give you very many of them, if you get the regular serving. Weirdly, the regular serving doesn't cost much money, by Brandon-era standards, but the serving-size is decidedly skimpy. Why not just charge a normal amount and give you a normal quantity? Even the large won't exactly break the bank. I went with the small because I just wanted to see what they were like, for the sake of citizen food journalism. You're welcome.
