Came here last night directed by the bestie. He made several heaven is a half pipe jokes, and…read morewalked us down there, stupidly the back way, which did make me wonder if perhaps it was all a reuse to sell me to a drug lord or two. The worry was thankfully brief, you pop down a little side street to a small illuminated sign and a yard with strung bulbs. It was warm, and so hipster it hurt. Genuinely, a small section of 2012/2013 shoreditch has been plucked from London and crammed underneath a moor street railway arch complete with "I swear those aren't real glasses" and faux fairisle knits. (The loud noise overhead is a train, not a reason to poop yourself like a quarter of the patrons!) I plumped for the truffle hunter, (because I'm uppity with food, ha) and a soda folk cream soda, he plumped for a Steph Weiss beer (I see why we're here now...) the bacon cheese and we shared the o.b.d fries. The came quickly, wrapped in An important note: do not come here with a date you are trying to impress if you're a concerned messy eater, they jam pack their burger with sauce and hot oozing cheese, which will end up all over your hands and possibly your chin, along with lipstick if you're wearing it. My burger was perfectly cooked and super tasty, great combination of flavours, and possibly the best cream soda I've had that didn't actually have ice cream in it. My companion said it was exactly what he'd needed, and what he'd been after when we last went out for burgers. The staff were also wonderful, as was the playlist. I would def8nitely go back.

Nice really, I enjoyed every bit of original patty men. You should get yours too, tasty & yummyread more

Can I just say a huge thank you to Mother Clucker? These guys were my Sunday night Saviours on the…read moreweekend just gone... I should probably explain how a fast food joint saved the day. Sunday was the launch of XP at the Mockingbird Theatre. This is a geek themed event held once a night and is a bit of a mecca for all things board game, computer game, quiz and film orientated. Naturally we had to go. I am currently on a bootcamp scheme (see http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/fit-body-bootcamp-birmingham for info), meaning I am on a strict diet of proteins, fats and No carbs. After consuming a smoothie for my breakfast and a salad for my lunch, I was starving hungry by 5pm. Everyone seemed to be either ordering pizza (a major no-no for me) or heading to Subway for their tea. I thought neither of these would be an option before a helpful person mentioned that Subway did salad bowls, problem solved... Or so I thought. Despite having all of the components of salad, Subway in Digbeth DON'T do salad bowls (and their staff are pretty unhelpful too). In a major grump, I left the store to see what else was on offer on the street. Right next door I came across Mother Clucker. Firstly, they scored a point for having a name that made me snigger, secondly... They couldn't have been more helpful if they tried. After a quick peruse of the menu I opted for lemon and herb chicken (which is served without skin). I asked if I could have some salad with this, after looking at me strangely for a minute - the guy said "Sure, we can do that. It'll be no extra charge". Winner. The chicken was cooked fresh for me as I waited and I requested some lettuce, onion and chillies (all I could have). I was even warned that the salad might be a bit rubbish as it's predominently meant for burgers, but I thought it was sweet that they warned me. My diet friendly feast was a budget busting £3.50. The guys that did end up going to Subway ended up pretty jealous of my dinner after all. This new kid on the block is sparkling clean, very friendly and super helpful. Will I be back? You can bet your bottom dollar I will.

We visited Annie's today for burgers and beer and we weren't disappointed. Well, we mostly weren't…read moredisappointed. Lunchtime at Annie's is very *very* busy and loud, so if that's not your thing, you may want to visit slightly later in the afternoon. If you do, turn up early and wait for opening time / reserve a table just in case. As for the rest: The Good: The burgers were great - we weren't asked how we wanted them cooked, they were just sent out just-so. I wasn't sure whether I'd like this, but I did. The beer was good too, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The place was very clean, service was fast and they had decent Guinness on tap. The Bad: The plates could have been bigger - if you're eating a burger that you have to deconstruct in order to consume, you need a little room, and these plates didn't have that. The glasses were old and scuffed too, which wasn't a good look. The Ugly: We were told that we couldn't leave a tip with our card. It's 2019 and we couldn't leave a tip with a card. I left all the cash I had, which wasn't near what the staff deserved, and though the food was good, I still had a nasty taste in my mouth. Hopefully they'll change this policy and I can remove this paragraph and upgrade my review to the ***** that Annie's deserves.

I gather that Annie sold out a while ago, and undoubtedly everything that made it special is long gone. Do yourself a huge favor if you want a great burger, head up the road to Bohn's!
