I try not to bag on MickeyD's because it's MickeyD's. Their reputation for quality and flavorful food has been long lapsed. No one goes to McDonald's because it's "good." They go because it's acceptable and convenient. That's it. They used to go because it was affordable, too--but lately, they're losing their mind with the pricing. Stop it, McDonald's--you're supposed to be cheap. That was your biggest saving grace. If you're no longer cheap, then you're no longer of value to the community at large. All that said, the McDonald's in Mount Horeb is CONSISTENTLY the WORST McDonald's in Dane County. Every time I've gone to it in the last five years, it has been terrible. It has been dirty. The food had been lacking, even for McDonald's, and the service has been slow. I wish Yelp allowed zero star reviews because that is the ONLY appropriate rating for the McDonald's in MoHo. Take Tuesday morning, for instance. I got a Sausage McMuffin and hashbrown to go. I had to place the order myself on the kiosk. I hate that this is now standard practice, but I will roll with it. This is the way McD's wants to be now. Fine. I had to wait more than five minutes to get my food. That might not seem like a long time, but there was only two cars in drive-thru and no one else waiting. I used to work at McDonald's. Even when I had to cook the patties on the grill, I could still get the order out in fewer than five minutes. Now, everything is supposed to be pre-cooked. It should not take five minutes. However, this one did. And I can tell you they did nothing correctly. The hashbrown was lukewarm and greasy. It was either pulled from the fryer before it was fully cooked or the fryer wasn't the correct temperature. It was inedible. The McMuffin was even worse. The cheese on it was ice cold. The sausage patty itself was lukewarm. The muffin wasn't even toasted. The egg was room temperature, too. I ate two bites and cast it to the wildlife on the side of the road. I'm betting even they would pass on that disaster. There was not one redeemable quality about that meal. I do not get McDonald's very much. Maybe two or three times a year. When I do get it, it's because I still acknowledge the fact that the sausage McMuffin with Egg, when it's served hot and fresh, is easily the best breakfast sandwich on the market. It is without peer when it's properly served. The McDonald's in Mount Horeb has always been terrible, and they ruined my Tuesday morning by serving up a joke of a sandwich. I frankly thought this place would have been closed years ago due to incompetence and a lack of cleanliness. The Corporate Overlords have clearly been derelict in their duties to improve the performance of this smoking crater of a restaurant. Avoid at all costs. read more

All McDonald's are allowed to kinda suck to a point but this one is egregious. Was patient with this location up until a really bad visit that had the following issues: No receipt. Order was wrong. Fries were crammed in box and soggy. Burger was the wrong size. Ate just the burger and got horribly sick. Employees were sitting in the lobby whispering amongst themselves and laughing, as soon as I took my headphones out and looked at them they stood up and got back to work then gave me really phony smiles afterwards. Called and complained about all of this and was basically told "Aw, that sucks". Consistently unclean. The kid who was getting water next to me at the soda machine got mold in his water. I could honestly keep going, about the employees that loudly yell on the phone and complain about customers in the lobby. About the mess on tables. About the ants at the condiment and soda bar. About how the order is always slightly wrong, or the place always kinda smells because the bathrooms are never cleaned. Like I said, McDonald's are allowed to suck up until a certain point, which this location seems to think is amusing to push further and further past. I COULD go on with grievances and speculate WHY this happens (after working nearly a decade in the food service industry I've seen lazy restaurant employees that think it's funny to be lazy and unhygienic). Just go to Kwik Trip. You can ask them to make you a burger "fresh" there. And your chances of illness are much lower because it's a small, contained kitchen with few employees and a focus on safety and expediency. Hope this helped, cheers. read more

Where do I start? Kiosks don't print receipts, No Table Markers for dining in. Employees having nervous breakdowns in front of customer. Dining area was extremely dirty. Never got my food (and left after the breakdown of an employee who decided to slap himself in the head and scream). Manager dealing with another customer about a wrong order belittling the employees. I mean this McDonalds is a PRIME example of numerous health code violations and has to be one of the WORST McDonalds I've ever seen. AVOID this location. read more

Bitchy worker (I think she's a manager) makes me pay for sauces (you don't need to pay on the kiosk or online and the other workers don't make people pay), this same worker was also vaping in the lobby. Such a bummer. We've tried so, so many times to give this location a chance and they consistently fail. Over charged for orders, incorrect orders, and when we enter the location (during a pandemic mind you) to politely explain how our order is wrong, the staff in the back is laughing and goofing off. There are certainly a few team members that are friendly, they just don't outweigh the overall negative experience we have time and time again. read more

Absolutely horrible. More often than not the fries are not fresh. Food prepared incorrectly (items are either missing or wrong. Management blatantly yelling and swearing at employees which could be heard through a closed drive-thru window. When my wife called about the order being incorrect she was yelled at by the manager. Why can't they turn the heat on inside ? After the remodel there is less seating in the dining area and tons in the play area where no one is sitting. The drive through is very slow also, not the place you want to go. read more

This is probably the worst, most unsanitary, and repulsive establishment I've ever stepped foot into. First, the bathrooms were extremely disgusting and smelled deadly. Second, the food tasted like it was cooked in old oil. Third, the drink machine was completely drenched in ketchup. When the employee was asked if the machine was ever cleaned he said, "sOmEtImEs." Fourth, when walking past the slides in the germ filled play area, your feet stick to the ground which is most likely never been cleaned. And finally, when they failed to build the hamburger correctly and we went up to the counter to fix it, the two employees stood there talking, and talking while occasionally glancing over. There was no workers there.The hotcakes were pretty good.They did seemed microwaved but that's what I expect from a McDonald's.So a friend and I ordered a medium-size drink.And we got totally different sizes mine was like a large and her medium drink was like a small.Overall, I would recommend if I want something decently good but you could probably find a better place to eat. read more

This McDonald's is not so good to put it politely. The first time I went we ate in the play land area. It was full of ants and generally gross. I assumed I would never go back but needed to grab coffees and hot cocoa on a cold winter's day. That particular day all the coffee machine and cocoa machine was broken. Staff is bitchy and whiny. One staff person was complaining to me that it was her first day and no one was showing her what to do. Another staff person asked a teammate to do something for him while he finished a task and the teammate outright refused. Very nice woman working behind the counter but this McDonalds felt especially dated, dirty and the food also just didn't taste good. Even the kids' chicken nuggets... were just unappetizing. After there was so much horrible news about this place online, you would think they might've gotten their act together. Wrong. I went here at 9 pm last night to get a quick meal. I was the only person in the drive-thru. After my order was taken, I waited at the window for about 10 minutes before someone came and took my money. He informed me that "he had forgotten about me." Are you serious? There's literally 2 other people inside and that's it. Another 10 minutes go by, and I finally get my food. The employee hands me my bag of food and says, "Sorry, it took so long. I gave your food to someone else." How does someone get confused from only one order in the drive-thru and one inside? Incompetent employees, that's who. The food was okay, I guess. One of the dirtiest McDonalds I have ever been to and I've been to a few. From the consistent past reviews someone obviously doesn't care. One guy at the ordering counter over the lunch and a line to the door plus the drive through was full. He kept yelling for help and the manager was literally standing behind him watching. I sincerely hope my experience was an anomaly. One of the team members was working in shorts and a t-shirt. Another team member was behind the counter with her long hair everywhere as she was attempting to fix the shake machine. The fryer was caked with grease. If you need any more convincing, google Mount Horeb McDonalds - there are several news articles about this place and the rodent and bug infestation that the manager himself called the state about! He couldn't get any thing done as the owners of the place refused to send him what he needed to do to rid the place of vermin. There are pictures in these articles of bags of fudge for the ice cream that have holes chewed in them from the mice and the manager said that employees would still use these bags in the machines!!! The manager said he knows for a fact the play place has not been cleaned or disinfected in almost a year and there are pictures to show how incredibly dirty it all is. There are pictures of food on the floor so loaded with ants it makes my stomach churn! Do yourself a favor and head down the street to the Culver's place - I feel bad when I see cars in the parking lot of this McDonalds as I know they are unsuspecting travelers who don't know any better - you would NOT catch a single local person in there if it was the last place to eat!!! read more

Went in for a cup of coffee. There was a line. An employee just stood there watching us not helping and saying hey I am not on the clock as he stood at the counter. It took 6 minutes to get the coffee after I ordered it. Apparently you can no longer put in your own cream and sugar but the employee didn't ask how much of either I wanted. Had to wait another 3 min to get a second sugar but no stir stick. Never going back. I get better service at PDQ . read more
