(A collection of 8 European McDonald's reviews - spread across several years - #1) McDonald's has no scruples as to where it places its stores, especially in historic locations in Europe. To me, the most offensive is the placement of a store in the same piazza as the Pantheon. That is a very tight space and having one so close to and across from such an important and enigmatic site is a bit much, hence I have vowed not to eat there. However, this McDonald's in Milan is placed across from vast Piazza Duomo. This square has Metro staircases existing at several places and many other retail establishments, although the retail inside the world's most "original" Galleria is not just any retail. I have eaten at this McDonald's across from Piazza Duomo several times. I'm sure it's hard to keep this location in tip-top shape. It's almost always very crowded. It pulls people in because they might not know where to turn for a quick bite in Milan and they won't, or can't, be eating inside the Galleria. Ordering via the kiosk in Italy seemed to predate doing so in North America. I dislike the kiosks there, across Europe, and even in North America since there are more than a few redundant steps in the ordering process to view your cart and there is also repetitive suggestive upselling along the way. The prices are about the same as in the U.S., possibly because of the dollar being a little weaker than the Euro during numerous past years. The service is indifferent, but then they're very busy. The food is about the exact same as in the U.S. Kudos to the Italian stores for having Sprite Zero. The bathrooms have very long lines - with the lines being even worse for women - and, inside, they are not acceptable. This is an area that needs more attention. What this McDonald's is all about, to me, anyway, is the view. From the upper floor, which is where there is a lot of seating, its windows have a superb view of Piazza Duomo and Milan Cathedral. I was thinking of going with 4 stars for each of the letters in the word V-I-E-W, but I might just go with a strong 3 stars. On any given trip to this important Italian city, it's not like you will keep coming back here. I might drop in once on each trip to Milan. read more

I'm always surprised how nice McDonald's is in Italy. More space to sit, lots of food options and beer. Yes, beer is served at McDonalds. They also have a dessert section with donuts and other pastries, and they have a variety of food options not available in America. I have to eat McDonald's at least once on a trip to Europe. Also this is in a pretty prime location. read more

Welp we only had a short break during our tour and I was desperate for water so opted for another happy meal for the deals, refreshing water and fruits and for the toy. The queue to order with people were quite long but there's several kiosks to self order. We quickly ordered and got our food very quickly. They serve beer here and have lots of desserts to pick from that aren't available at US McDonald's. The first floor doesn't have any chairs since it's in such a busy location. There are several seats upstairs though ! read more

Nice location, but the order was messed up. They left out a sandwich and the bathrooms were putrid.

th staff were completely rude beyond belief grabbing people as they went up the stairs to check they just had food, meaning you couldn't even buy the food upstairs without buying something downstair. Uterrly horrid behaviour from staff. read more

Upstairs mcafe bar serves incredible espressos for only 1 euro. Generally empty after 5 p.m, you can find a mixed crowd of teenagers and older families with children. Haven't tried any of the the treats but they look tasty and affordable!!! Staff is well trained and quick! You can receive your order in less than a minute! Decent view of nearby street, sit by the window to people watch (very clean windows so you can see people passing by very well)!!! Would not recommend using the downstairs washroom. The air conditioning is terrible and 2/5 washrooms were out of order. Huge line as one washroom served men and women... soap dispenser was full and the water pressure on sink was good but hand dryer smelt of waste!!!! Had to rewash hands! read more

One of the best McDonald franchise and location olin the world. Very modern and also displays local artworks from Italian Artist.Garbage disposal is automated- auto sensing when you're ready to dispose your garbage. Make sure you sit on the second floor and you will be rewarded with the Doumu view- one of the stunning and largest chuch in the world. It is popular among local and tourist alike. Very crowded specially lunch time for it is both McCafe and McDonald's at the dame time. Free wifi and also has a small indoor playground for the kids. read more

Crowded but extremely convenient and fast! I have never seen a McDonalds like his before, so high tech! Big selection of pastries and desserts, and a much larger menu than I'm used to in the US. read more

Thank god for the location of this Mickey -D's, just across from the Duomo and their free toilets - even if those are hidden towards the back and just a wee bit difficult to find. I didn't purchase any food, but did see a self- service kiosk, which looked interesting and which I haven't see anywhere else at a McDonalds. Also noticed that it had tons of spaces to sit. I guess if you are a fan, you will come here regardless - for me, am just grateful that the restrooms were free to use and no need to purchase something just to get the bathroom key code. read more

#56-2016: Like most Mickey D. this location is often hit and miss... specially when it comes to fries. Historical in that it was one of the first Mc's to be open in Milan (one of the VERY few still open for business), it has one GREAT secret weapon, its location! The front of the store offers a clear view of the Duomo square, and cathedral), whereas the back entrance heads on out to the less renoun Piazza Mercanti (a hidden gem worth visiting). But, enough jibber jabber... on to the food... your typical fast food, however, beware of French fries lingering there too long. ... unlike the US, here they won't be tossed out, they're gonna be sold (at regular price). Another fancy (but not so pleasurable) fact: you pay for sauces so... don't splurge and DON'T bring unused packages back... I like their sundaes and was crushed when they stopped serving apple pies... Periodically they offer specials but don't even bother... staff barely knows how to cook the normal menus! read more

Yes it's McDonalds not a gourmet restaurant so the food is what it is, in Milan, Detroit, Sydney or Shanghai... but the plus here is the view. Right in Piazza Duomo, Milan's most famous square, if you're lucky enough to get one of the tables facing the square, you'll have the most amazing view in town...while having your 7 euro McMenu :) So, if you must eat at McDonalds while in Italy, this is the one you want to go to. The Easy Order is great, I wish they had it in all other McDs in town, it really saves lots of queueing time (if you know Italian queues you know what I mean...), you just order at the 6/7 screens available, using your credit card and then pick up your order in the dedicated line. While the downstairs area is a bit dark for my taste, the upper level is fine, and again, with that view! The restaurant is clean enough, chaotic during peak times (lunch especially). Staff is fast enough, sometimes careless when preparing the burgers, I mean I know it's a fast food restaurant but several times I've had to re-arrange my burger because everything falls out... but once again... that view! That's why I keep coming back, also because it is one of the affordable options for lunch break in the city center. read more

From the food, its a typical MD, as usual. Freshly prepared meals. So far so good. just with some italian modifications. Which are nice and definitely more healthy if you compare it to the american versions, however. The restaurant is mostly crowded, a lot of tourists go there but it is well organized and there are enough staff members who care for things and that everything works well. What is absolutely great is the location. Upstairs you can sit at one of the half-round windows and have a look at the Piazza del Duomo. Just sitting there with a coffee on a rainy day, and watching the people and things going on outside lets you forget that you actually are sitting in a Fast Food restaurant... I am no MD fan but this is definitely an exception! read more

Visited at about 2:00 pm on July 11th. Food was OK - love the convenience of ordering on touch screen menu (and the macarons), but hard to find a free table. The biggest issue we had was that 3 out of the 4 stalls in the women's bathroom were unusable - there was a long wait for the remaining stall. The management sent a man in to clean while women were still using the rest room - he tried to open the door to the stall that was already occupied. I tried to explain (I don't speak Italian) before he walked in on her and he looked at me and said "Silence!", which might not be as rude in Italian as it seems in English, but nevertheless, creepy. read more
