I was impressed by the modern design, with crisp angles around every corner and natural, clean colors. From the moment I entered I felt a sense of calm, and the server greeted me and showed me to a comfortable seat along the bar. The list of cocktails was very diverse, and the drinks menu reflected the upscale atmosphere. I decided to start with a cocktail called Beer Americano, a mix of bitter Campari, red Vermouth, and white beer, topped with the zest of a fresh orange. This was a uniquely refreshing cocktail, as the citrus notes really picked up on the herbal flavors of the Campari. I chose to indulge in Trussardi Calvisius caviar, an excellent choice to match the flavors of my cocktail. This is seriously the best caviar I have ever eaten, fresh, a notch salty, but delicate and delicious. After my Beer Americano, I knew I had to try at least one more cocktail on the list, and ordered the Apple Tru, crafted with Calvados, cinnamon, apple, ginger and BBB bitters. Perfect for fall. Although we were inside, an employee came over to collect payment mid-way through our drink. Very much a "here's your hat, what's your hurry" moment. One and done I guess. The restrooms are a pass for me. I bring clorox wipes when I travel so was prepared but there is no seat on the toilet. Most ladies hover anyway but you have been warned. Also, signs specify to *not put your TP into the toilet. A bin is provided, but the foot pedal is broken. You can imagine how that went. Located in a pedestrian area you may find parking on a nearby street, but I recommend public transport if heading to the Naviglio Grande area.

Pinch is a total replica of American hipster craft cocktail bars, in Milan. The bartenders wear suspenders and do tricks with shakers. I'm waiting for an ironic mustache, preferably like the Moretti guy has. The drinks are exceptional. When I was there, they had one made of green tomatoes and mountain pine liqueur that was a taste party in my mouth. The aperitivo snacks are also really excellent, a small tray of various interesting crunchy things. No potato chips -- we're talking samosas in wonton wrappers with sweet chili sauce, Indian curry rice, a ham-arugula roll, and baba ghanoush. My second drink didn't quite match the first, but it was close. Also, the only bar in Milan that gave me *zero* grief about wanting a simple glass of tap water. In fact, they just give you one. Mega bonus points for that. I'm sick of paying for "aqua panna Toscana" that I neither need nor want. Been drinking Milan tap water in my hotel room for four days now. It's fine. Pour it on. Food offerings from the regular menu are a little hit or miss, but on the other hand, I had kind of stuffed myself with aperitivo. Had I been hungry, might've been a different story.

Pinch is a new bar right in Ripa di Porta Ticinese, not in the pedestrian part of the Naviglio, which means they don't have outside seating - except for the tables at the windows. It has a retro vibe, as if you entered a 1920s bar, dim lights, soft 1920's music; elegant but not ostentatious atmosphere. The cocktails list has about 15 signature cocktails, all with an explanation of the alcoholic level (medium or high), taste (fresh, spicy, bitter, etc.) and of course the ingredients, classic cocktails with a twist, made extremely well, with good ingredients. They also have a food menu but I didn't check it out since we were there for the aperitivo - which then turned into after-dinner drinks. I had the "South of the Border" with tequila, chartreuse vert, lime juice, sugar syrup and fresh mint, it was fresh and delicious, then I had another one and another one... just to be sure they were made perfectly ;) For the aperitivo, our cocktails were 8 euro each and the waiter (who looked like Robert Pattinson) brough a small tray with some snacks: rice and salad in small glasses, chips, mini-sandwiches and a couple of vol-au-vents - not enough to fill our stomachs completely but also not the average greasy aperitivo food. Nice staff, a full bar with quality bottles and clean bathrooms complete the experience. Too bad it's far from my house, but worth the subway trip back!

Even though we were pretty late (around 10pm when the Osteria is originally scheduled to close) we were kindly greeted and served. The restaurant is situated in a lovely street that branches right off Porta Genova. The street is filled with small restaurants and cafés and was teeming with people at the time. Also, there's the river promenade at Naviglio Grande just a mere couple 100 metres away. Osteria Via Pré itself fits right in there because it is a small, cozy restaurant with only a couple of tables and a bar inside, while most of its chairs and tables are located outside, facing the street. We had a very attentive, nice waiter who conversed with us in Italian, English and German and generally gave us the feeling that he was there for us whenever we wanted something. For appetizers we shared a Foccaccia which was filled with molten cheese. Absolutely delicious though the serving was a little small for two people. In any event, I think it's a positive thing that the appetizer actually left us craving more (food). For the main course both of us ate Lasagne alla Genovese. Frankly, I've never had Lasagne with pesto this green and refreshing. As far as pestos go, this one was absolutely amazing. Rich with herbal aromas, not to oily but just the perfect consistency. The lasagne was housemade and also perfectly al dente. The housewine we had (red one) was to our liking though by no means spectacular. Even after we had finished, the waiter kept an eye on us and our needs, served us a free bottle of water and chatted with us about this and that. In this regard, the mediterranean kind of mentality and atmosphere were really carried across positively. In terms of prices, Osteria Via Pré falls right into the Milano standard. Good restaurants in nice locations like this always demand prices like this in Milano, so I think if you're in Milano and you want to have a good meal, it's not reasonable to skip this one. It's as pricy as most others, offers great food, service and the location is probably more lovely and romantic than most of the crammed city center.
