A cool and hip neighborhood American sandwich joint serving up solid sandwiches and delicious…read morebrunch items with real American bacon! If you are an expat, this will be your new comfort food craving after your first visit. Our group ordered three different sandwiches and shared many brunch dishes and they were all amazing. They serve their buttermilk pancakes topped with bacon and a generous helping of syrup on the side. The eggs benny came with fries and was delish as well. All of their amazing sandwiches come with an individual pickle that is made in-house. We shared a Chicken Cobb (Corn fed chicken, smoked bacon, avocado, blue cheese, boiled egg, tomato, red onion, lettuce & mayo on 3 slices of toasted white), The Toronto (Slow roasted topside beef, melted English cheddar, leaf lettuce, tomato, pickled hot peppers, red onion, & horseradish mayo on toasted sourdough), and The Medley (Roasted turkey breast, smoked ham, bacon, melted cheddar & emmental, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickled hot peppers & basil mayo on toasted sourdough). This place is locally owned and the vibe is very laid back. We went around 12:30 on a Saturday and this place was packed. They take reservations so you might want to make some (we did). Overall, I will definitely come back.

Like most American ex-pats, I'm amazed at how the country that invented the sandwich can't make a…read moreproper sandwich. There are few things in the world less appetizing to me than two pieces of pre-packaged soggy bread with one slice of ham drowning in a gallon of mayo that's been sitting on the Pret a Manger shelf all day. In America you only see stuff like that at gas stations, and even there they hold the mayo. In England, they put so much mayo on those sandwiches that it actually gets listed as an ingredient. So whereas you'd have a chicken sandwich with mayo in America, in England it becomes a chicken mayo sandwich. That's just wrong. And nasty. Enter Pickle & Rye. If this place were in Soho or South Kensington then there'd be lines out the door. True Mortlake is in London's upscale southwest and thus home to several affluent American ex-pats, but I feel like that this gem of a sandwich place is missing out on a golden opportunity by being stuck out in the middle of nowhere. It was a trek to get to even from Fulham, and I've got plenty of friends who think that Fulham is enough of a trek already. Or at least that's their excuse for never coming to visit us. This place would merely have to not completely suck to be one of the best sandwich places in London, but it's really taken the art of the sandwich to another level. The owner / head sandwich dude is a culinary school graduate who roasts all their meats, cures his own corned beef (known around these parts as salt beef), makes his own dill pickles (which are easily the best that I've ever had in England) and Russian dressing, with the result being the finest reuben this side of the Atlantic. I will gladly return to the middle of nowhere for another one.

Recently, however, due to unforeseen circumstances, I was in desperate need of a last minute venue for my birthday party. In less than a week, the staff at the Richmond Vault helped us pull off a successful birthday party for just under 20 people. Along with the manager, the floor manager, and the chef, they cornered off an area of the restaurant downstairs just for us, put together a super delicious and dietary diverse canapé buffet-style menu (at a very reasonable price per head), allowed us to bring in a birthday cake from an outside caterer, were attentive to and served our guests well all evening, managed the open tab seamlessly and professionally... and all of this with friendliness and smiles from A to Z! These guys went the extra mile! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice dinner out in Richmond or for anyone looking for a place to have a small party of any kind. Thank you guys for making my birthday memorable!

This nearly got itself 5 stars, but not quite there...yet!…read more Meat & Shake was on my radar as soon as it opened in Ealing, it's near enough my local! We finally got round to giving it a try, and in all honesty I wasn't sure what to expect. The place has mixed reviews, and I had my reservations. I don't think my opinion of a place has changed as quickly as it did here when our starters came out! My doubt turned to joy at the first bite of the hot link sausage, closely followed by an amazing Buffalo wing...I knew we were on to a winner! Mains wise I had spotted one of the best looking ribs I had seen in a long time, so asked the waitress for the same thing. My partner went for a burger and we added chips (with balsamic and mayo)and mac n cheese. The ribs were as stunning as they looked, full of meat, juicy, tasty and all round heaven on a plate. The burger was good, but if you want the best burger in the world go elsewhere. it's the BBQ side of things that make Meat & Shake stand out so I really suggest sticking with that...chicken, ribs, hotdogs etc The chips were amazing, I had never even seen chips with balsamic on before, but after these will be covering them in it in the future! The Mac n cheese was average, nice but in all honesty we didn't' need it...the portions were big and we were pretty stuffed! So food wise this is one of the best meals I have had for the price range it's in, and will 100% be going back. The only thing that really let Meat & Shake down was the service, and it wasn't just us. 3 tables around us were moaning to each other about it as well. The issue wasn't staff themselves, it was clearly there was not enough of them. We waited ages to order, and in the end skipped dessert before I aged another week myself. It's a simple change that would have given this place 5 stars...get some more staff on busy nights, and organise them better! In summary, give this place a visit, and you won't disappointed! Maybe just avoid the hot sauce, as it's lethal!

Thankfully the food was really good. Highly recommend the Hot Links sausage. Most of the bbq sauce stuff is quite fruity which isn't my vibe usually. What really irked me was ordering a bootle of tap water for the table which took 20minutes while the waitress prepped two empty tables with water before us.

But, I recommend coming in on the brink of starvation, because it's going to feel so good when you take your first bite! Next, there are a ton of topping options for your burger (too many to list). Add to that the dips available for the fries and you can custom order your dream meal. This location is fairly large and the service is good. I was in there off peak and I imagine it can get quite crowded during the lunch hour. The only drawback is the prices. It's a bit on the pricey side for a burger, but worth it.

However, there are times when I want nothing more than to sink my teeth into a tasty burger, and GBK is as good a place as any to satisfy this craving. The food in this GBK is pretty decent. On my most recent visit, I had the small blue cheese burger (the one with sauce) and an order of sweet potato fries. We waited eons for our food to arrive, and I was already reaching the point in my hunger where I was becoming a bit agitated. By the time the food arrived, I was nearly in tears from hunger. Luckily, the burger and sweet potato fries didn't disappoint. My burger was juicy and generously slathered with the blue cheese sauce. The only think I might have changed was foregoing the relish--that stuff doesn't do it for me. The sweet potato fries were all sorts of greasy amazing. Whoever thought of the bacon aioli is genius. Seriously tasty stuff. At first, I was a bit disappointed with the size of the sweet potato fries portion, but by the end, I was filled with greasy goodness. On a side note, once I was at this location and I saw a child put one of the ketchup dispensers in his mouth. Talk about yuck-factor. I'm not sure what happened with that ketchup dispenser after it's adventures in that kid's mouth, but I'm guessing some poor sap shared his germs. If you're hungry for a burger in Richmond, GBK should do the trick, but perhaps avoid the ketchup.

After reading the reviews and hearing about it some more, We decided to make a day trip if it from London to Southend-on-Sea and see if the food lived up to the hype. Oh boy, the pictures don't do the food justice. Firstly, this is one of the very few places where the food actually looks like the picture!! So my hubby ordered the rib tips for a starter, daughter had the shrimp starter and I had the brisket end starter. We were bowled over by how delicious the starters were. The shrimp was crispy and just plain gorgeous, we've never tasted better, honestly. Just he shrimp alone made the trip worth it. The rib tips and brisket ends were also amazing. So yummy. For our mains, were we glad we'd starved before coming! Hubby had the manwich, massive sandwiches, never seen bigger honestly and he said they were sooo good. Sandwiches came with chips and coleslaw and he demolished the lot to the shock of the waiter lol. My daughter had hickory smoked ribs and that came with corn on the cob, salad, coleslaw and chips. The meat off the rib just literally fell off the bone. It was so delicious and so full of flavour that even she managed to eat most of it. I had the Almighty burger...there are just no words to describe the awesomeness of this beast. It also came with chips and slaw and it was fantastic I ate it all. The portions here are HUGE and we didn't need to eat anything else all day... Apart from dessert coz honestly we'd come all the way, why not have dessert hey? The dessert was amazing, everything was amazing. We were so full at the end, thank God the restaurant is right by the sea and pier so we had a long walk site seeing to get the food down before going back home. We are certainly returning to taste all the other stuff on the menu! YUMMY!!!!!! Service was really good and the music and drinks were excellent

Perhaps they messed up the recipe? Meat itself was very good, but I struggled to remove as much of the coating as possible. Sweetcorn overcooked.
