This McD is always super busy during lunch time on a weekday. Well if you want cheap food than I guess this is the place to go. Things have changed after my last review of this place. -Service has improved. -It is now connected to the mall and you can enter from the back -If they are doing any promotional deal, you have a higher chance of it being available here. I.e. they bought back the retro toys. -After I have tried their other locations, this McD on Stephen Ave does a way better job. Their burgers are tastier and orders are done right the first time. Sometimes, the burgers looks a bit sloppy but it is actually quite tasty. This is my actual go to McD. Food turnover is high at this McD compared to some. read more

This place religiously messes up orders, ask for a double 1/4 lb, get a double box, single patty inside. Ask for 2 junior chickens, youre only gonna get one. Ive gotten these issues a lot so check your food before you drive away... I've learned my lesson read more

Nothing like a poutine with like 6 french fries, 2 cheese curds and a bucket of gravy thrown together in a cardboard box and upside down into my to-go bag that I could throw out before even eating any of whats inside of it. This is one of the most colorful McDonald's in Calgary. The food looks like McDonalds. The food smells like McDonalds. There are double-arches outside. The inside looks like McDonald's. But the cast of characters are diverse. REALLY diverse. The day that the food trucks were on Stephen Avenue Mall, we just couldn't get near them, so we went to this McDonald's instead for a quick bite. When you look around the room, you see it all! - The beautiful people - downtown, polished folks, with shiny shoes and nice hair - The homeless person, that scratched up a few bucks. - Students, that have books, cheap food, that appear to be studying for something - The dibert geek - Goth - Grunge - The Mountain Equipment Co-op Type, with a backpack and khakis. - Dudes and dames, heavily tattoed and pierced This place was a mix of geeks, cool, polished, casual, funky and destitute. And we were all in the same line-up, waiting for our lunch. If you are looking for your standard fare, but love the diversity of an eclectic crowd, do not miss spending a half an hour enjoying your lunch at the 8th Avenue McDonalds. Now, in my best Aussie accent, I'll do this review. Riiight. If you want to experience trailer trash and bums in their natural environment, this is where you do it. A woman that resembled the Wicked Witch from the Wizard of Oz was dinging the bell for 5 minutes to use the bathroom she had been told numerous times was for customers only. She then walked over to bitch and yell at the cashier and I started looking for cameras expecting the scene to be on an episode of Cops. Next was the rather shady man who received his order, looked in the bag (I assume to verify that everything he ordered was there) and began walking towards the cashier and back to the corner over and over again. Damned if I know why. All I know is that he accomplished spreading his rather strong body odour thus creating a wall of stink that one must pass through in order to reach the counter for some food. Wasn't this one of the tasks that Indiana Jones faced in the temple in The Last Crusade? Only the penitent man will pass....through the invisible wall of deathly odour for thy hash browns. The food was fresh and decent, but the environment inside feels like walking onto the set of The Crow. I'll avoid it as much as possible. read more

I've been to this McDonalds a few times, every single time it's a different environment it feels like and the crowd can be kind of unsettling, but the food and staff were great. I could not believe how great all my food looked! The presentation and quality was 5/5, the low-lifes and panhandlers coming in and out bring it down a bit, but it is not McDonald's fault. McDonald's on Stephen Avenue.... It's like a hurricane; It's seems like a good idea in the beginning, but ends in DISASTER!!! About 2 months ago they did the chain-wide renovation, and it's sad to say that they turned a reasonably good restaurant into, well a hurricane. It starts with the "line". In truth it's now a hit or miss guessing games as there tends to be two lines, sometimes being served by one till. Previously, the tills were divided by two a side, depending which side you came in. Now, it is one line of 4 tills, and two lines tend to form coming from both sides. It's a completely disorganized mess, with no signage or clarity on what the official line is; this make people very grumpy as they can be wait a long time as people from the 'other' line just go up next. Sadly, complaining to the managers is to no avail as, they advise you (quite rudely most of the time) that it was decided not to post signage and that there is no intention of putting up signs. So once you've gotten through the 'Line'. Your food can sometimes take a long time too. Today it took 4 minutes to get a side salad and a coffee (Wow really?) and they gave me the wrong dressing pack. This McDonald's is a disaster, and it seems like it is a complete write-off now. In closing, do yourself a favour, walk the the 8th street location, it may not be the best location either, but they're hands down much better than this screw-up. read more

While it's certainly true that the experience of this location is entertaining, opening my take out order shouldn't be a journey of discovery worthy of a carnival grab bag. Very seldom do I actually get what I ordered! I maybe should inspect my order BEFORE I leave the restaurant (as I tend to lose my appetite if I eat in)... One of if not the scariest restaurant experiences I've ever had. There are homeless people on the outside, homeless people on the inside, and always very crowded. One time while walking through the mall my friends and I walked through this McDonald's to get out to Stephens avenue, and was followed for a long time by another group of teens who followed us from out of the McDonald's. They eventually cornered us and jumped us close to the Calgary Tower. One of the worst experiences of my life. There are crazy people at this McDonald's. Choose anywhere else. read more

Go in to grab a bite after the bar. No one in line. 3 clerks standing there talking Filipino and ignoring me and the people who came in after me. After getting acknowledged by the clerk, his friend walks up to the counter and starts chatting, causing the clerk to not pay attention to me. The new line-up arrangement is less than to be desired, as it seems most people do not understand it. Inevitably, people cut in front of you when you are waiting in the undefined line for a cashier, rather than waiting in line to pick up your food after ordering. This location is the scene of so many drug deals in the evening, it's become rather scary with shady characters around all the time. They would be much better off with a police presence in the evening, rather than just a rent-a-cop. read more
