Great place to go with family and kids.  Big camping sites, heavily covered in trees, and located walking distance to the river.  They have 2 beaches.  The less developed one sometimes allows dogs. Camp hosts are friendly and so are the rangers!  Spent almost an hour talking to them both! Make sure you make it to the river.  It even had an improvised rope swing. Tip!  -- The ranger station has life vests at the main entrance for kids to borrow. Tip - October starts the salmon run on The Merced river. Tip - bring a fishing pole.  They have black bass, blue gill, trout, and catfish.  We saw tons of fish.

Needed a halfway stop on the way to the bay area and rain...82 when we got here at 2pm : -)! Here on a Monday in February, so no worry about crowds. The rangers were nice, the park was clean and we could let the dog run off leash cause there's no one else here! It worked for us.

There is a small kids playground by these courts. Another part of the upper area consists of a large lawn area, which is plenty big for several different sports. There are two baseball diamonds and a medium size playground. The bathrooms are located by the baseball diamonds. Near this area is also a butterfly garden. When you walk to the lower area, there is a large gazebo which is nice for parties. There are two volleyball courts that consist of sand. The remaining area is fairly large and consist of lawn. The park parallels the Stanislaus river and there are several access points to enjoy the water. This park can get fairly busy on the weekends.

When the water is low it only comes up to your knees in most places and deep areas up to your waist. This part of the river is mostly sandy instead of rocky. The city keeps the park well maintained and there appears to a community center along with public restrooms, a butterfly garden, a large gazebo area and a volleyball area. Went on Labor Day and was surprised there were no crowds, especially since there is no entrance fee. You can either park in the park and walk to the river or you can park in a city parking area with paved trails leading towards the river. No BBQ grills or tables near the river but they do have lots of garbage bins so bring your dog, camp chairs and a picnic basket and soak in the natural beauty.

A beautiful hidden gem!…read more This is a peaceful park to take a stroll and look at our local wildlife. When you arrive, turn right down the gravel road into the parking lot. There is ample parking with a bathroom directly next to the lot. Walk just past the bathroom, and you will be greeted by the start of the nature trail. There are some informational bulletin boards there about the native plants and animals which makes for an interesting read! The main trail takes you under a beautiful tree cover to a fork that diverges into two other trails. The trail is completely flat until this point where there is a very slight incline. Both trails after this are flat and have beautiful views. One trail is longer and loops around 3 miles. The other, the Brush Rabbit Straight, is a little over 1 mile. The longer loop leads to a little lake and the other follows the creek. Along both trails you can find tons of wildlife. This place is huge for professional bird watching, and trust me, you will see a ton! There are rabbits and coyotes even if you don't see them, so be sure to tread lightly! If you come to visit, make sure to keep your voice down and watch out for animal scat all over the trail and enjoy your time!

This is a peaceful place for an hike walk, not true hike since there's not any hills to climb. Learn from my mistake and do t come here on a 95+ degree day! It was so hot and there's minimal shaded areas along the trail. It's mostly marsh and tall reeds. There is a trail lined with trees but unfortunately the time of day I visited the sun was beating down and didn't give us much shade. If you are adventurous and aren't cranky in the heat, I still advise to bring lots of water. Parking is plentiful in the dirt lot and there's a bathroom (doesn't flush just a hole) at the start of the trail.
