As it is open many nights, it makes going out a lot easier, and gives clubbers a wider choice in when to go. Most nights have free entry till a certain time, and even some nights where drinks are 'buy one get one free', making it extremely popular. There are themed nights throughout the year, and to celebrate this there is always something good planned to entertain. There is a great group of bar staff who are always friendly, and the doormen are also friendly and often helpful. When going here you are guaranteed a great night.

It has three different areas that offer different types of music in each area, such as dance, chart music, hip hop and 80's music with plenty of classic cheesy music as well. The DJ are very experienced and help to make the night as fun as possible. The main club room has comfy seating as well as a good sized danced floor and even pole to dance around if you are that way inclined. The staff are all very friendly and deal with any trouble quickly and without fuss.

Numbers are yet to regularly return to the levels of years gone by, but an old veteran like The Blue Note is sure to outlast any competition. Drinks prices have recently crashed to unbelievably low levels and they still sell their favourite 'traffic lights' and 'purple turtle' signature drinks! Come here on the wrong night, and you may find it deserted, but on a busy night, queues still stretch out of the door and the atmosphere can be electric.

However, it appears that most are now avoiding the club, particularly on Monday and Friday nights in favour of MOSH. Due to this, the atmosphere has died down a little, which is a real shame as it is the best place in Derby (in my opinion) for socialising with a variety of new and friendly people. The DJs are always more than willing to play the music that is requested, and even when they use their own judgement (on a busy night) the dance floor is usually fairly populated. While it may take a bit of work for them to secure their patrons back from MOSH, there is no denying which is the better club, I think it's fair to say that most would prefer a night at Blue Note!

My suggestion was actually a hit. I did my indecisive alterego very proud. There are many quality club nights organised by the Lost and Found name and this was no exception. Dance off, being £1 entry, sold it for me. Doubles for £3, a range of sambucas £1.50? Messy. Dance off saw a battle between three major DJs, strangerways, good vibrations and juicy DJs playing a mix of Joy Division, The Temptations and Dr Dre. Amazing combination. Ruby Lounge is renown for it's quality club nights and live music. The venue is perfect, with an adequate dance floor, a stage to match and plenty of seating on a slightly raised level for a chill out. Another great Northern Quarter location that needs to become a regular thing for me.

The gig was billed as The Cribs Aftershow but it was basically just a gig- most of the spectators were either in one of the four bands, looked like they should be or were girl groupies who were way too impressed with themselves that they were getting backstage. The sofas and high backed armchairs in the main bar area were nice touches, there were a few mirror balls around too. Plus velvet curtains - hello, strip club? Then you turn to the grimy stage area with the big grill up between the bands and the crowd. That said, no one went past the pillar anyway. Too cool to stand right at the front. Alright drinks prices - get some of their cheap vodka mixers or flavoured sambucas otherwise you'll run out of money quickly. After the bands they had Gareth Brooks from Xfm DJIng but we didn't end up staying.

Definitely the place to go if you're up for a laugh, or you just fancy a bit of seventies…read morenostalgia. The music is cheesy and the drinks are cheap, which makes for a fun night out! It's tucked away down a side street so it's never too crowded, but there are usually enough people in to fill the dancefloor, and when I've been the place has always had a friendly, party atmosphere. If you thought you'd never sing along at the top of your voice to the Village People, just go to Flares for one night and you won't be able to help yourself!

Flares is pretty much a rough hell hole…read more Yes, drinks are very cheap, and if you're in the mood for it, they play alot of party songs and there's silly fun merchandise you can buy..but that's the only real appeal. The last time I went to the Flares in Derby there was a massive fight which kept breaking out over and over again. Yes, trouble in a town centre isn't unusual..but I hear it's a common occurance in Flares. The mentally cheap drinks, and hypnotic repetitive music of some peoples' youth, can do strange things to many. On the other hand, if you like blow up guitars, stick on sideburns, deeley boppers and people puking up in the toilets, then go for it!
