As it is open many nights, it makes going out a lot easier, and gives clubbers a wider choice in when to go. Most nights have free entry till a certain time, and even some nights where drinks are 'buy one get one free', making it extremely popular. There are themed nights throughout the year, and to celebrate this there is always something good planned to entertain. There is a great group of bar staff who are always friendly, and the doormen are also friendly and often helpful. When going here you are guaranteed a great night.

The DJ are very experienced and help to make the night as fun as possible. The main club room has comfy seating as well as a good sized danced floor and even pole to dance around if you are that way inclined. The staff are all very friendly and deal with any trouble quickly and without fuss.

Dance off saw a battle between three major DJs, strangerways, good vibrations and juicy DJs playing a mix of Joy Division, The Temptations and Dr Dre. Amazing combination. Ruby Lounge is renown for it's quality club nights and live music. The venue is perfect, with an adequate dance floor, a stage to match and plenty of seating on a slightly raised level for a chill out. The gig was billed as The Cribs Aftershow but it was basically just a gig- most of the spectators were either in one of the four bands, looked like they should be or were girl groupies who were way too impressed with themselves that they were getting backstage. The sofas and high backed armchairs in the main bar area were nice touches, there were a few mirror balls around too. Plus velvet curtains - hello, strip club? Then you turn to the grimy stage area with the big grill up between the bands and the crowd. That said, no one went past the pillar anyway. Too cool to stand right at the front. Alright drinks prices - get some of their cheap vodka mixers or flavoured sambucas otherwise you'll run out of money quickly. After the bands they had Gareth Brooks from Xfm DJIng but we didn't end up staying.

Cheap entry and free drinks on freshers weeks meant it stayed a favourite with students throughout the years they studied at Derby. The building was old & contained a massive ground dancefloor with a large bar in the middle. There was then an upstairs which had sofas for those who wanted to relax and not dance. Overall, a great club and its a real shame its not around anymore.

The last time I went to the Flares in Derby there was a massive fight which kept breaking out over and over again. Yes, trouble in a town centre isn't unusual..but I hear it's a common occurance in Flares. The mentally cheap drinks, and hypnotic repetitive music of some peoples' youth, can do strange things to many. On the other hand, if you like blow up guitars, stick on sideburns, deeley boppers and people puking up in the toilets, then go for it!
