We had a great experience with David our first year - 2nd year had some hiccups in communication,…read morebut overall it was fine. However year 3 was a nightmare, that has solidified we will never be back and will not recommend his services. I went to his office where he went over all the paperwork I had. On my way out, I asked the receptionist to pay and she said I could when I picked up hard copies - which is weird, because the previous year I all but begged for hard copies. So I said ok, and left. I sent numerous e-mails and called to confirm that our return was filed - finally I got a "yes". Fast forward 4 months and I still have no refund. I call and e-mail several times again and finally get a "we were waiting on payment"...TO WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED AN INVOICE. I was told I would pay upon hardcopy pickup. So I paid right then, and had my refund about a week later - so we were waiting for 4 months for NOTHING. Getting a copy of my returns was another circus - I was fine with a PDF or a hardcopy, but wanted SOMETHING (don't most people want a copy of their tax return?). It again was a month long process of calls and e-mails that went unanswered and finally I received a PDF copy. Overall, the systems in place here SUCK. Nobody has any idea what's needed for the next step, and the communication is even worse. Additionally, their pricing isn't even a bargain. For a good service, I'm willing to pay, but not when I have to chase people for months to do their job. Go anywhere else, save yourself the time.

Update. As mentioned in my previous review David has (past tense) always been proactive, promptly…read morereactive and client-centric. I have no idea was has transpired in 2021 for David to make a near 180 degree turn for the worse from years past. Leading up to an October 15 filing David's reponse times to phone, text and email were lagging at best. I was satisfied with, at mininum, getting a response and figured that my simple return would be easy enough to file on time. In retrospect I should have been more insistent with David. Current status: David missed the October 15th deadline after claiming he had all my information and that he had indeed filed on time. My taxes were filed on October 21. There is now a late fee for filing post October 15 deadline. Further my return was rejected. I found this out because I called the IRS on November 19 to personally inquire about my filing. The IRS stated that my preparer, David Airola, would have received the rejection notice shortly after the October 21 filing. I heard nothing from David. I called David on November 19. I spoke live with David and I presented him with the fix that the IRS recommended. Unfortunately I had to jump into a work meeting. I told him I would call him back which I did. He did not answer. It was the Friday before the Thanksgiving holiday. No response from David at all during that week. I called him again and left a pointed voicemail on November 29. I sent him a detailed email as well. As of the writing of this updated review I have heard nothing from David. Again, I'm saddened as to whatever has transpired with David that his client service and follow-up have taken a turn for the worse. My return is not a complex one. I pay David's rate for filing a individual (non-corporate return). His fee is higher than most. I expect service commesurate with the fee that I paid (on time and in full). The information I have provided him with is straight forward. He has even stated to me that my return is, "easy enough to take care of". It's possible that because I am not some large corporate client that I am last on his list. That's only a guess.

Many days go by before anyone returns my calls or emails and, in many cases, I've gotten no response at all. I was referred to this firm by my now-retired tax advisor with the promise that fees would remain unchanged, only they went way up the second year. When I asked about this, they said I must not have received their letter. As the final straw, I've have been trying for weeks to resolve two invoices for $650, which I already paid. I've called and sent emails repeatedly, only to be told they would get back to me. Not a well-managed firm. Moving on.

I called to set up a phone consultation with an individual named Jeff, at least this was according to the receptionist that answered. Of course, I was not called on the date and time this supposed phone consultation was set up. I let a few days go by, thinking maybe they were just backlogged during tax season. They never ended up calling as originally promised. I then called their office again to see what the problem was but got a voicemail during their business hours and was never called back despite leaving a message. It is understandable if an accounting business is busy during tax season, but don't waste a potential customer's time by setting up an appointment and not following through.

Last year I was selling my business and met with Randy in July 2024, to get an estimate on how much capital gains could be. When I arrived, Randy was not prepared and "asked why I was there?" I told him I was selling my business (for approximately $2M) and need help planning for capital gains. Randy quickly tells me "he's a numbers guy, and not comfortable with hypothetical numbers". But, THAT was the purpose of our meeting! He spent more time thumbing through a Business Valuation book, trying to find a multiplier, to estimate my business's worth. He recommended Rogerson Business Services to do an appraisal and get back to him with their estimate, which I did. I received a bill for $438 for 1.25 hours, which I paid. I emailed Randy with their estimate and he replied with a total estimate for capital gains, but no information on depreciation recapture, or breakdown of state and federal or tax bracket percentages. When I asked for more information, he sends me an email with a web link for 2022 federal taxes, so I can calculate it myself. Early October, I get 2 more bills! $875 for 2.5 hours of his time "preparing estimate of tax resulting from sale" and $88 for "generating tax calculation worksheet and email" I emailed Randy disputing the charges, but never heard back from him. When I received a past due notice in November 2024, I emailed Katie disputing the charges. I don't mind the initial $438, but thought the extra $963 in charges was excessive. If Randy had given me the original estimated information I requested at our initial meeting, there would have been no need for additional charges. For comparison, at the recommendation of my Real Estate Agent, I met with another CPA and Business Consultant. I spent 1.25 hours in his office, where we reviewed and filled out actual on-line State and Federal IRS forms for Capital Gains. He came up with similar Capital Gains numbers that Randy had calculated, but ONLY charged me $250 for 1.25 hours of his time. In December 2024, I received an email from them, terminating our relationship. Apparently, I no longer fit in with "the future direction of their practice". Thank you, one less thing I had to do!
