I was first requested to have a mandatory paid initial consultation session to go over my legal help needed. I was introduced to Julie S. during this session. After describing my specific case & needs, she informed me that Geller Law can handle my case. What followed was months of emotional stress & redundant conversations with the staff of this firm that yielded no results. It became clear to me that they didn't know how to legally handle my case. Some staff members were argumentative & appeared trying to take advantage of this emotional situation for me. There were redundant conversations that I was later billed for. They did ask what I wanted done and that they'd be willing to do it for fee(s)...and said they'd call me back that night...never did. So, they deliver initially...but any follow-up with them, at least in my case, was just not there. Sure, I tried online will and trust services (including my friend, S.O.'s), but I was really unsure of how "legal" those documents were. I didn't want my big ticket items (i.e. car, house, etc.) to end up in a trust that wasn't valid. Surprisingly, there aren't that many advertisements for will and trust lawyers. However, I did find Mr. Brian Bishop's website. I e-mailed his office and was shocked as to the level of detail and recommendations that they provided even before my (FREE information session - you have to register, though, so the office knows someone is showing up). That's right, it really is free for the first session. If, for some reason you decide to go with another lawyer, they don't bother you... I really liked that). Another plus was his legal assistant Liz. She was very gracious, but sharp as a knife with any issues you may have. Eventually, after scoping out some other places, I decided to go with Mr. Bishop's office. For the most part, after your initial discussion, Mr. Bishop gives you plenty of time to think about what you really want in your documents. Although he writes up your documents, expect some back and forth for you to provide comments and editing. True, it is rather pricey (compared to a software program), I really felt that I got my money's worth. I was really particular with what I wanted in my documentation and Mr. Bishop was very accommodating. If memory serves me correctly, within a month or so of my initial meeting I had both a will and trust ready to go. The only thing I really knew about lawyers was the lawyer jokes, but after working with Mr. Bishop, I really have a favourable view now. We live in New York and were not able to get to Maryland for three weeks due to severe weather conditions. We felt reassured having a lawyer as a real estate broker to go over all the documents of the sale. Everything was explained in phone calls and emails. Even though we live in another state we had complete peace of mind and total trust and confidence in Suren's handling of the property. I cannot say enough good things about the Adams Law Office and Adams Realty firms.
