Made to feel comfortable until it was my turn to 'go under the knife'. Everything was explained to me in terms that most would understand before the procedure was carried out. During the procedure, under local anaesthetic, all was described as the surgeon carried out his skills. Wheeled out into the ward for recovery with a welcoming cup of coffee, toast and a yoghurt (I hate yoghurt but ate it LOL). Allowed to relax but with checks every fifteen minutes. Later a sandwich, coffee and banana. Great staff. Finally, released in the late afternoon feeling great. Loads of people knock our NHS. Hope they don't to my face because I think we are so lucky. Thanks to all the staff in this department.

Great she has metal health problems they don't know about her. Since she tried to commit suicide she has had two appointments with coombewood neither of them was to see a specialist or talk through her problems., since then she has cut herself quite severely mutilating her leg from the hip to the knee with hundreds of long sweeping cuts. Called the team they said call back at 8.30 this was on Saturday morning 25 th jan. she called back at 8.30 and was then told to call back on Monday morning. My son has been under the care of the team at Coombewood for many years since he was diagnosed with…read moreparanoid schizophrenia over 20 years ago. Sadly, he died suddenly this year when his heart failed. The team at Coombewood are amazing in their care, commitment and dedication to supporting their clients, and I have the highest regard for them. I held my son's P.O.A. and was his main carer: roles that were respected by the Coombewood team, who included me as part of his support network. They were always easy to talk with and could be relied upon to make contact swiftly if they were not immediately available. They work incredibly hard in difficult circumstances, especially as they are involved in the care and support of people who are so often dismissed within our society, and they continue even though many of their clients will never 'get better ' but require on going help throughout their lives. My son could not have been cared for better than by these remarkable people who gave him respect and treated him as a valued individual even when his psychosis and paranoia made his world such a difficult place for him to cope with. Coombewood clinic and the staff who work there go to great lengths and provide, not only an excellent standard of care, but also a safe place for those who find their world a frightening and confusing one. I only wish that more funding was available for Mental Health Care, especially considering their huge workload.

I had reason be a visitor there whilst my wife underwent an operation and was surprised to see that all but for a coat of paint or two, and the beds being change from luxury beds to those hospital beds no more suited to wheel you straight into the operating room, not much had change. All very clean and sterile looking, which was nice to see and the staff were very attentive, but where slow on the uptake when it came to offering me any refreshment whilst waiting for wife to return from surgery. Okay it was still streets ahead of my local new so called high tech hospital!

None of the nursing staff were aware of the procedure she was having. One or two were most unprofessional in their attitude (one asked for professional advice for herself as my wife was flat on her back recovering). The outpatients waiting area is a scrum. Equipment didn't work, food was poor. Maybe it was only our experience, but there's no way we'd go back there.
