The "Fort" Bar has been here since 1885. It is one of Belfast's oldest pubs. McCartan's gets the "Fort" name from the former RUC/British Army post that was once accross the street during the time of the Irish "troubles." This place is in the DIvis/Clonard section of Catholic West Belfast. The place is really steeped in history. It has incredible mahogany "snugs" that create a special atmosphere. They've really cleaned up the place in the past couple years, so some of the unflattering older reviews you read elsewhere are out of date. It's one of my go to places when visiting Belfast. read more
