Koala Insulation of North Texas - What a terrible winter we had.

I had Koala Insulation of NTX do the following service on my home: removal of old blown-in…read moreinsulation, air sealing of top plate penetrations and seams and drywall penetrations, and addition of new blown-in insulation. The job went smoothly and quickly, but there are a few positives and negatives that I'd like to point out. Hopefully this will be helpful to the company. Positives: - This was the most competitive quote I received for this work. - My questions were answered promptly. They were able to provide multiple different quote options in a very timely manner. They also provided the option of cellulose or fiberglass for blown-in; others only provided fiberglass as an option. - This quote provided was one of the few that included top plate to drywall seams for air sealing; most others did not do this, or considered it extra work. - The installers vacuumed up after the work was completed. - The work was overall very un-intrusive to my family life in the home. Negatives/Areas for improvement: - No drop cloths were put down on the floor surfaces around the attic entry, which meant insulation materials could work its way into the carpet. Considering that the cleanup vacuum is just with a simple wet/dry vacuum hose without a carpet attachment, this leaves the burden of in-depth fiberglass cleanup to the homeowner. - No drop cloths were put down over furniture and no corner guards placed around door/wall corners, which meant that the insulation removal and blowing hose left scuffs over furniture and trim surfaces. - Air sealing lacked attention to detail; I found multiple penetrations, some large, that were either missed completely or were not completely filled with foam. And it also appeared that they might have ran out of foam towards the end. - The work includes recessed can light covers, but they appeared to just be haphazardly placed onto the top of the cans with a large gap around the bottom and no air sealing whatsoever. They told me that this allows the fixtures to be serviced if needed, but it seems extremely counterintuitive to the goal of air sealing everything when recessed cans are among the biggest contributors to air leakage. - With review by a thermal camera, I noticed there were a few areas where insulation was missed or not filled up completely.

*edited on 4/28/2025** to add pictures that show the copper connection literally melted down due to…read morethe horrible installation from Precision Comfort as well as installing the wrong components ! no wonder why the copper completely melted! Absolutely one of the most absent-minded, boneheaded, obvious mistakes you could make. I only noticed due to the smell of burning metal and smoke. This installation could of burned my house down, god forbid with my kids inside. Used this contractor to come and diagnose my issue. They had to return multiple times over the course of a few days to finally replace the condenser in my outdoor AC unit. The condenser they installed was done improperly, causing the connections/fittings to not fit properly. This caused my AC unit to turn into a block of ice in the middle of hot Texas weather. The fittings/connections from the condenser to the air handler was the wrong type, so they had to come back again. -- An analogy would be, if this was a mechanic shop and they were working on a Ford Truck, yet the manufacturer sent in a Volkswagen engine, rather than talking to the manufacturer to get the correct part sent, they just forcefully installed the Volkswagen engine into a different make/model of a car just to get the job done. This approached ended up causing more problems, money, and time wasted for all parties involved. A little due diligence can go a long way. When they returned, they told me the service visit was free of charge as it was their fault. Upon completing their visit, they had me pay $300 for the visit, even though they EXPLICITLY told me that it was a free service/diagnostic visit since the problem was never originally fixed, AND it was their fault. Normally, before any work gets done, the business tells you about the costs involved and has you sign off on it before they begin the work. This was not the case. They shocked me with a $300 bill that i had to retroactively get removed. More effort and time wasted on my end. This still did not fix the issue. After paying $1500 to Precision Comfort Home Services, my issue was still not resolved. After calling them back and explaining the situation, they then discovered the "real" problem about it being a leak within some piping. That would of been great to know prior to spending hours of my time and not to mention a great deal of money ($1500). When i asked what it would cost to actually fix my REAL PROBLEM, they quoted me again. I responded that I would shop around for a cheaper price, and found many other businesses willing to do the work for 15-25% less of what they quoted me. I asked if they could match the quote and was told "good luck". i am of the personal opinion that this is not how customer service should be handled. Mistakes happen, of course. But when it comes to my HOME and THOUSDANDS of dollars, I want to make sure i am giving my money to people who actually give a shit. Then, the audacity of the owner to text a customer passive aggressive threats at 11:00pm at night because he doesn't agree with a google review. Bad reviews happen from bad jobs. This is one of them. Get used to it and stop harassing customers late at night. Ryan Mudd the technician was wonderful and polite. I can't say the same for the rest of the team. I do not recommend this company at all. Edit: the screen shots maybe out of order but just look at the timestamps and it will tell you the whole story.
