I requested a Perm and I have quite short hair. They were wonderful as they gave me two alternatives. I could wait a week or so till my hair grew a little longer or they could just use a smaller roller it I was ok with tighter curls. I went for the tighter curls and was extremely happy with the outcome. The students and the teachers are all so supportive of one another. Yes it sometimes takes longer that the average salon, but they are students and I find that they take more care. The prices can't be beat either and being on a limited budget, I can now afford to have my hair done more often. I have been there many times now and have been happy with every visit. read more

I have been to MC many times and have had great experiences until this. I have naturally curly hair but wanted more volume and curl at my roots. The salon suggested a root perm, explaining that it would blend well with the rest of my hair, especially since some of my ends were damaged. I trusted their advice despite my concerns about mismatched curls. After a long appointment (9 AM to 3:30 PM), I had to leave with wet hair. Once I diffused it at home, I noticed a significant issue: the first 2 inches at my roots were tightly curled, while the remaining 6-7 inches of hair were completely straight. I immediately called the salon to express my concern. They offered 15% off my next appointment but didn't apologize or take accountability. When I asked for potential solutions, they suggested I cut my hair where it goes straight which would leave me with 2 inches of hair --a disappointing response. I understand that results might not always be perfect, but I was deeply unimpressed with their lack of care and willingness to find a satisfactory solution. I made an appointment and got in the same day. The stylist was very friendly and so were the teachers. As the other reviews said, don't go in thinking it's going to take an hour. You really should set aside half a day regardless if it takes less time. Remember this is a school and training, teaching with the students and then a consultation with the client take some time. But, having said all this. yes the price $ can't be beat and it's kind of a cool different atmosphere than the regular franchise solon shops here in Kelowna BC. Would I go back? Yess! Absolute worst dye job I've ever had and I once had my hair done in New Jersey, ofcourse I smartly scheduled it the day before I had a job interview for a management position in my company. I came in with two feet of virgin hair and the girl absolutely destroyed it, she went about 8 numbers past the colour she was supposed to and then worked to "fix" it. I walked out with a dip-dye look that was reminiscent of the cast of Jersey Shore circa 2011 that took 6 hours to achieve. I came in asking for a natural ombre that went from brunette to warm honey/California blonde where I wouldn't have to worry about root touch ups. Ended up with a dip dye that was icy blonde and found out that my sweater I was wearing was covered in bleach, which the stylist and her instructor both were fully aware of and didn't mention to me. It got on my car seats as I didn't know about it and promptly sat down in my car, and the dye bleached the shirt under my sweater and camisole and bra. I did get a gift card for damages to my shirt when I called to discuss this with the manager and she moved the calendar around to fix the first one, she was honestly great and very professional, I then came in again and spent another 4 hours getting that fixed and although it was an improvement it was still not at all what I asked for, and also not what was explained to the girl by one of her instructors who knew exactly how to fix it and explained to her what needed to be done when I came in, the girl doing my hair seemed confused by these instructions although I felt they were clear and obvious and I have no formal training (or even general interest) in this field. After that fix I was pointing out to the girl and the original instructor who let me walk away with the paste all over my sweater the previous time and they started to tell me I was wrong, and pull in other stylists to bully me into liking what was done and arguing with me. I asked for them to fix it and she said that I would have to come in for a 3rd time as they didn't want to deal with it that day. I felt they were kinda banking on a mean girls popular in high school tactic that im sure both have utilized in the past, this was more what bothered me than the girl clearly not understanding how to do hair, these two were just generally unprofessional. I understand mistakes happen and I'm more than happy to work with that but their treatment of me on both days was just awful really. The additional 4 hours caused even more damage that is beyond fixing, my hair legitimately has a different texture half way through. The girl doing my hair told me "I'm new at this and it's a school, you can't expect to get what you want". I feel that if that's how they operate they probably shouldn't charge for their services because all things considered it's not that great of a deal, its hours more out of your schedule (and that's provided they do it correctly the first time) and I've defiantly seen groupons in the area for cheaper. I walked away with awful hair and some of the worst customer service I've experienced outside of Paris, London and NYC. That said the manager Nikki and the instructor with the dark hair were great, sadly my interactions with both of them were extremely limited. read more

Called them every day for an appointment and they never answered the phone, when I finally got one they cancelled on me cause the stylist I wanted took the week off. They rescheduled me and then called the day of my new appointment and cancelled on me again cause said stylist took the day off or something. WTF. All I wanted was a balayage. Guess I won't be getting one from miss no show bree! Last to times I got a balayage with 2 different stylists they could tone my hair and did a shit job cutting it. read more

I went in and had a pedicure with French gel nails, they were done pretty well, the lines on the big toes were not completely even. Having said that, I know that these people are just learning. All in all great experience and everyone was incredibly friendly and accommodating. read more

I booked an appointment for a blowout this morning. There was a monthly promotion for December where a wash and blow-dry was $5. This is INSANELY cheap so I thought I would try it out and went in with very low expectations. The lady at the front desk was friendly, and my appointment started on time, which rarely happens in salons from my experience. A lovely girl, Taylor, brought me to her chair and started asking me questions off of a standard questionnaire that I assume they have to ask all clients before the appointment begins. Then she confirmed what she was doing with her instructor and got started. She was very friendly and personable, and completely professional (this surprises me being a student in school still learning about hair styling, let alone customer service). She made me feel very comfortable and talked me through everything she was doing, which I really value during salon appointments. She recommended products to me in a casual and helpful way without being pushy. I am beyond happy with the result, and I would be even if I was at a professional salon paying well over $5. I will definitely be returning here to see Taylor! read more

Went for a full head of highlights. Was told it would be 3.5 hours and took 7 hours. Hair doesn't look different than when I went in there and not at all like the photo I showed as reference. Was also OVER DOUBLE the price than initially told. I told them that I needed to go as I made commitments for the afternoon but ended up having to cancel them as foils were still being placed after 4 hours. This review is not about the young ladies who did our service, manicures for my sister and myself on Sep. 29/15, but is more about the business itself. These girls did their best to give us decent manicures, but the products they were given to work with were terrible. The polishes were so old and thick it was a joke! And many of the colour choices weren't available. Before I got into my car, most of their work was ruined from getting my car keys from my purse. My sisters nails faired a bit better, but the whole hour and a half was a waste. I find it hard to believe this is the way they teach....using products that are unsatisfactory. So, if you are planing to have you a service here using nail polish etc., make sure the products are fairly new. read more

They have a very high drop out rate. If the students finish the course but not the hours in 10 months then they make the students pay a fine on top of the (ridiculously) HUGE school tuition, more than University. I know so many people that have paid the enormous fee and then drop out at the very end because they cannot afford to pay the fine i.e $1000. So they can't graduate even though they are trained as much as the graduates. Even if the student has health reasons for missing school. They treat their students like small children not adults. They will not allow students into class if they are seconds late. This school sets the student up for FAILURE right from the beginning. Shame on McCollege!! Word of mouth! read more
