Definition of artisan: made by hand. Made in a traditional or non-mechanized way using high-quality ingredients.
Unfortunately there are very few true artisan gelateria's in the world. Unfortunately there is no governing body that outlines a criteria and restricts the free use of this special word.
Mazzoni gelato is definitely not artisan. Using semi finished industrial ingredients does not put you in the category of artisan. I tried this place a few nights ago and had hazelnut and pistachio. Pistachio was of low quality, cut with the cheaper almond not pure. Hazelnut was ok. Texture was horrible, the server struggled as she scooped the rock hard very cold crumbly gelato that melted rapidly. Whilst waiting for my scoop, i overheard a staff member telling a customer that they use all natural ingredients with no additives. I highly doubt it! read more
