The crust is toasty, the sauce is robust. The cheese is baked in and stays in place. The texture is soft yet crispy in all the right spots! This might be a "plain" in terms of toppings, but it's anything but plain in flavor. I actually prefer it sans pepperoni because it's a lot less greasy and there's a lot to savor there that meat eclipses. It's also a generous amount of food if you're hungry and want leftovers, usually they're just as great the next day. I might not be able to return to regular crust! In fact, I was full after one slice, but I really wanted more. I have no idea how they get the perfectly baked texture throughout, but I have no doubt in my mind Marcello's is an amazing choice for a pie. If you're new to the area, you won't be disappointed. If you want to charge for it, fine. Make it known when you order, not when I've already handed you my card and then you ask "will you need sauce for this?" I was told you had to charge for that but I could receive a discount on my next order for the charge of a substitution that the gentleman said I shouldn't have been charged for. So you offered me $1.50 off my next order, not a refund. Since I won't be coming back after the condescending response by the owner, this does me no good. I had planned to give you another shot based off of the phone conversation but then to just make excuses and be petty online, I'm done. We had planned to meet at 5:30pm, but due to a slightly delayed adventure buddy situation, we walked in closer to 5:45pm -- right at peak "everyone else had the same idea" time. From our table out front, we had a full view of the action...which turned out to be both entertaining and a little telling. It quickly became clear that Nonna Ilva was significantly understaffed that evening. We waited about 15 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order, and the three staff members we saw were absolutely hustling -- managing the dining room, takeout orders, and a steady stream of DoorDash pickups. They were working hard, but there were simply too many customers for the team on hand. THE CULINARY EXPERIENCE We began our evening by sampling four appetizers, each offering its own delightful interpretation of Italian cuisine. The Tre Polpette al Sugo featured three exceptionally tender, house-made meatballs simmered in marinara sauce and finished with shaved Parmigiano. What impressed me most was the wonderful combination of flavors. You could actually distinguish the pork, veal, and beef in the mixture, creating a depth of flavor that elevated these meatballs well beyond the ordinary. The Mozzarella Fritta was equally impressive! Forget the typical mozzarella sticks found at most restaurants. These were substantial, beautifully prepared large triangles of lightly battered mozzarella that practically oozed melted cheese when cut open. Accompanied by a rich, thick marinara sauce, they were absolutely delightful! The Classic Tomato Bruschetta was another winner, featuring wonderfully fresh tomatoes, basil, garlic, extra virgin olive oil, and balsamic. Beautifully and elegantly presented, it was as pleasing to the eye as it was to the palate. And then there was the Shrimp Cocktail! These were truly COLOSSAL shrimp, beautifully presented and curled into the most unusual, almost sculptural shapes. I've enjoyed shrimp cocktails at many fine restaurants, but I honestly cannot recall ever seeing shrimp presented quite like these! Accompanied by the restaurant's creamy house cocktail sauce, enhanced with herbs, orange zest, and a touch of spice, they made quite an impression. Our dinners also included fresh Caesar salads and bread accompanied by seasoned olive oil for dipping. For our entrées, we both selected the Shrimp & Scallops Amalfi Coast, a delicious combination of shrimp and scallops served over linguine in a delightful lemon-garlic butter sauce. The presentation was beautiful, our meals arrived piping hot, and the portions were exceptionally generous! My favorite part? They boxed up our leftovers right at the table. I don't know why this feels like such a rare treat, but I adored it. We started with drinks--an Old Fashioned for Adventure Buddy (classic) and a Blueberry Lemonade cocktail for me (fancy, fruity, perfect). Then we jumped into the food. First up: Bosco Bruschetta ($14). Porcini mushrooms on toasted bread, shaved Parmigiano, balsamic drizzle...and SO MANY MUSHROOMS. Creamy, rich, and overflowing off the little toasts. Highly recommend. Like, I'd go back just for this. For dinner, I went with the Eggplant Parmigiana ($24). This was a serious dish--lightly breaded eggplant layered with marinara and mozzarella, plus a huge side of pasta. The eggplant itself was perfect, not just drowned in sauce, and came in its own bakeware dish. I ended up taking about two-thirds home, which I have zero complaints about. Adventure Buddy had the Gnocchi Sorrento ($24) and added a filet mignon. The gnocchi were like little pillows of happiness, perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the filet came out exactly medium-rare.
