I'm sure in a pinch this is a good store, but the prices were crazy. Two small crescent moon charms--not precious stones or gold filled--were $6. They didn't have a ton of options for small charms and pieces with welded loops like small rhinestone drops. As much as I'd like to support a local business, the prices and quality were significantly better at reputable online wholesale stores. Also the lockers are ridiculous. If you're going to do lockers, offer a keypad with 1-9 not 1-5. Have an option showing which are in use, like at the gym. I had to ask for help because my usual passcode for lockers isn't "1234" or whatever. Anyone saying they're not friendly--you're correct. The worker that helped me looked annoyed and told me "use the lockers with the key next time" like I'm an idiot. read more

I spent over $1,000 and I'm still not sure I got charged correctly. It's very confusing when you get up there with a large purchase order. Always a great selection. I never leave with just what I went in there for - always leave with more. Most staff is friendly. You just need to ask for help because they won't come up to you. Always are busy packing online orders or restocking the store. Very good pricing on most things. read more

The amount of product they have is great! They always have good deals and they'll help you find something if you ask. When you go in you do need to put your bag in a locker. They probably had a lot of theft in the last year or so. I haven't visited in a year or so until last week (February 2018). The lockers are safe and free. I'm very excited to return this weekend (yes, twice in 2 weeks). The products are nice and pretty. They also have products for showing off bracelets or necklaces. Very reasonable or comparable to Hobby Lobby/Michaels. I really love this store! So many options, colors, quality. Great store for every price point! read more

I don't like to throw negative reviews around like if they're free cupcakes.. I mean look at my review history. I usually am fair and have mainly good reviews. It's really hard to tick me off. But Mays... You just made my bad list. 'Cause baby now we got bad blood...like Tay Swift would say. Me and my sister stumbled upon this establishment 4 years ago and since then we have been LOYAL customers. Driving up to half an hour for Mays. They have good deals if you buy in bulk... Usually. They have two locations; Houston and Dallas. The Dallas location also has an Etsy shop where you can order products online. What I have been noticing is that at times they give me one price and when I go back next week they change their pricing. Especially when I buy in bulk. I went in the other day to buy one roll of chain and they tried to charge me $250 when I had paid $160 for the same roll about a month ago. When I asked the reason, he said that roll was bigger although it was the same price. This is not the first time this happens. I ended up finding the Dallas location on etsy by accident and decided to message them via etsy asking them for the price of that same chain that the Houston location had charged me $250 for. They offered me the roll for $150! Ok great! When I let them know I was interested in purchasing it, they referred me to their Houston location store. They advised me to purchase it there.... I told them Houston was out of stock and thats why I preferred ordering online. Coincidentally they were out of stock well. I asked if they had the same chain but in a different color and they replied with "Come to the store and find out" .... Well I am in Houston not in Dallas so that makes no sense. All in all, Mays has been very unprofessional. Even in emails they do not communicate properly and make up excuses. They do not treat me with respect. I discovered May's through a friend at the beginning of Covid. I have never been a jewelry maker, but after coming to May's and seeing the quality of beads and the pricing, I have become a dedicated customer. I am a crystal healer and absolutely love the assortment of gemstone beads available. The quality is far superior than anything you will find at a craft store, and each gemstone has dozens of sizes, shapes, and facets. This store is a gemstone in itself. Plan to spend a couple hours if you come here. Note that you cannot bring a purse or bag in with you. May's does provide lockers; however, the first time I came and used a locker, they could not get the locker open when it was time for me to leave. Now I leave my purse in my car, but I do worry about it when I do so. My best advice is to bring a credit card and store it in your phone case until you're ready to check out, and leave your purse at home. Other than that, which is nothing major, May's is the best! read more

Yessssss!!! This place is a steal!!! You can get strings of beads for nothing. They have walls and walls and aisles and aisles of beads. They have glass beads and plastic beads of every single color you can imagine. This is the place to go to for your generic, run of the mill beads/gems (in every color). This is also the place to go to for supplies. They have a tremendous selection and the best prices in town. I have seen the same exact beads at other locations for 5X even 10X the price, it's ridiculous. The staff is super friendly. Highly recommend checking this place out! read more

I have visited this store couple of times now and they have been very accommodating. Especially the two guys who run the store, they are not just trying to sell you, they will guide you to the right product and the right item, you just have to let them know what you are trying to create. What I really appreciate is their honesty, they are running it the right way. They have small margin cuts, and if you are buying in bulk they do give you a small percent off, which is fair. You can literally go all over the country, you won't find a store that has these many options, open communication, and price. I was kind of hesitant to ask questions because some reviews said they are rude. I personally never had that experience but I do understand that sometimes how that can be the case, especially at a wholesale business. I'm down with the beadness. Dude. The first time I walked in here I took a few looks around, bought a few random things, went home, and didn't bead for A MONTH. A full month, man. It was so intimidating, the possibilities! Actually, I came in to May's on accident. I was on my way to Beads Depot in the little shopping center next door. I just assumed they had an ownership change and found myself inside May's. In retrospect, for a beginning beader I would definitely recommend Beads Depot first. Get your barrings. I do have one complaint... Unless I just haven't found them yet (I also haven't asked...) May's headpins are kind of cheap... no, wait, they're really cheap... The ones at Michael's are expensive, but at least they're sturdy. And when I say cheap, I do mean in price as well as quality. To be fair, I have not yet asked the store workers if there are higher quality headpins. That's not for like of friendliness - these people are very helpful and ready to answer any questions you have. May's also has beading classes. I don't know the details, but ya. I have visited this place twice now, and I must admit that while I do love the selection of products available, the customer service is horrible!!!! The people working there are not helpful and are rude! I may not ever return here because I don't want to spend my hard earned dollars at a place where they don't have a clue as to how to treat customers! There is even lockers there for you to put your handbag into while you shop! I didn't lock up my handbag, and I wonder what sort of people ask customers to lock up their handbag while shopping? I've been going to May's Beads for over a year now and I've had a couple of bad experiences here. Let me preface this by stating that I have my own jewelry boutique. In one instance, I contacted one of the owners of the store letting them know that I needed a large quantity order of a certain material for a large potential order from a customer of mine. When I asked if purchasing a large amount of a specific material from them would be possible, one of the owners told me that they were unsure if they wanted to go through with this transaction because, and I quote my customer seemed "untrustworthy." I just started an Etsy shop with my jewelry line and many of my materials come from here. One of the men behind the counter has been especially helpful and has even helped me with issues I have had with my tax exempt number. The prices are great with the majority of it as close as I can imagine to wholesale prices. I did once, I'm almost positive, get charged more for a knotted strand than I had the week before. After reading reviews on May's I finally ventured out all the way to Harwin to see what this place was about. I was FLOORED when I saw their selection! When I first walked in I honestly did not know which way to go lol What I liked about May's is how they have their beads separated into sections, and they do have individual strands of beads price marked so there's no confusion. On my first visit, I picked up some much needed supplies such as beading wire, jump rings etc but I just had to take advantage of their low prices on beads! I picked some strands of beads for $1 each and some for $2 and a few for $3. Coming here, it really is impossible not to splurge. I spent about $42 on the size of a purchase that would have cost me easily $80 at an ordinary craft store such as Joann's or Michael's. The people seemed friendly although I wasn't asked if I needed any help. What was kind of off putting about this place was that as soon as you walked in there's a sign right at the front that states that ALL purses and/or bags need to be given up at the front and locked in a locker???? No thank you! Luckily I just came with my card and license in my pocket this time. Also, it's not hard to tell that they obviously have "secret shoppers" hanging around the place. There were more than a few people (men and women) walking around checking things out but not shopping. Oh my goodness. Talk about a jewelry makers paradise!! My Mom and sister-in-law came across this place while making some bracelets for bridesmaid's gifts. This place is wall to wall beads, supplies, pendants and any other jewelry making accessory you can think of. The prices are fabulous too! I ended up spending a pretty penny here on supplies for 2 different necklace projects I had been meaning to start. I made necklaces at home all weekend. So glad I've found this place! Walking in, the store is an endless glittering expanse of every kind of bead in existence, from plastic to metals to semiprecious stones. Any kind of clasp, pendant, fitting, string, and everything else is available at wholesale prices. The staff is wonderful, and they offer free beading lessons on Sundays. As far as selection goes, they definitely have the best! I advise going with a list or you can easily get overwhelmed. Prices are very reasonable as well, especially for gemstone beads. I do suggest you keep track of what you're purchasing and maybe even add it up before you check out. I haven't caught any discrepancies, but they go through your selection super fast when they check you out and I'm not convinced that maybe I've paid a little bit more than I should have. Upon entering, he will insist that you store all your belongings away in a locker, and will act extremely aggressive if you voice any hint of skepticism as to why the owner is so scared of someone walking around a shop full of cheap beads with a purse, even though he already has security cameras all over the place.
