Total Motors (Orange City): A Review…read more I started having intermittent issues with my car starting. My stepdad replaced my ignition switch, which unfortunately did not fix the problem and unprogrammed my remote start. My car happens to need computer reprogramming, you can't just mess with the key fob and reset it. I call Total Motors in Orange City, tell them what is going on. They tell me it probably just needs to be reprogrammed and set up a time for me to come in. I bring my car in, they end up unable to fix it at this time due to getting error codes they didn't have time to fix. I set up a 2nd appointment to address it. 2nd appointment comes along, they determine my body control module needs to be replaced (for $545) and don't have the part. They ordered the part needed and set up a 3rd appointment to have the car fixed, saying to bring the car in at 7:00am and it will only take about an hour to fix. 3rd appointment, 7:00am. We find out they had no intention of fixing my car at 7, it's going to be later in the morning (not a problem, but it would have been nice to have been told that), so now we're left in a town we don't live in without a car. We have to wait until my mom is able to now take time out of her day for a ride back home. Ready for the fun part? I sure wasn't. They call around 11 to tell me the car is done. Great! Wait for my mom to again take time from her day to bring us back to Orange City, pay them their $543.73. Test out the remote start. Still doesn't work. I go back in and tell the guy working, who comes out and tries it with no luck. Now I notice my windshield has a crack in it that was not there. I let the guy know this. He brushes this off as an 'oh well that happens', and leaves it at that. Then tells me the guy who fixed my car is at lunch and he'll have to look at it again when he gets back. Super. We're again in a town we don't live in without a car, 2 hours before work. My mom again inconveniences herself and just lets us take her car at this point. I call the Orange City location and ask what they plan on doing about my windshield and am again just brushed off like it's no big deal and not their problem. I contact the Le Mars location and was told the general manager of both locations would call me back, which he did. He was very polite and at least validated the fact that I'm pretty pissed off at this point and explained that if the windshield had a chip already, it's possible the windshield cracked when they raised up my car. Understandable, but their actions still broke my windshield, not my actions. He sets up a time next week for me to meet with him and the service manager, telling me that if there isn't a chip they will replace my windshield, but if there's a chip, too bad. 3 hours later my car is fixed (hopefully, remote start works, it remains to be seen if the intermittent starting problem is fixed). I check my windshield and there is a tiny chip at the bottom of the crack, so apparently I'm now going to have to spend my own money (about another $250) to replace a windshield they broke. I have no interest in ever taking my car back here, or even considering purchasing a car there. I have every intention of making this known, this is not how you treat customers. This is not how you treat people at all. If I broke somebody else's car, it would be my responsibility to fix it. So why is it they don't feel the need to do the same? How much money did they just screw me out of if the remote start needed almost $545 to make it still not work?

Go down enjoy the trip come home and check engine light comes on. So take it to our local Kia dealership and they checked everything and found out that I had 3 extra quarts of oil. Check engine lights goes off for a few days then it comes back on. So I take it back down to Kia. Turns out my car takes a special filter, well they had installed it wrong and it broke. Their mechanic did not know how to use the diagnostic tool, brushed me off, and later told me vaguely it was "just a sensor" that would be fixed. I asked for documentation such as a service slip or a photo of the dashboard once it was repaired, but I never received anything. On the day of the sale they told me over the phone the light was off, but when I drove off the lot it was still on. I was in a hurry and they knew it. They stalled me, rushed me through the paperwork, and took advantage of the situation. This dealership buys cheap cars at auction, acts overly nice to gain trust, then sells them for high prices while hiding problems. They are too cheap to fix the cars themselves because that would cut into their profit. Instead, they leave the issues and want you or the warranty company to pay for repairs. When I contacted them after the sale, they told me to just bring it back since it was "covered by warranty," but that misses the point. A car with a check engine light on should not be sold in the first place, and a professional dealer would have offered goodwill repair instead of pushing it off. I also had the car checked out by another mechanic who said the tires were so worn down they should have been replaced before the car was sold. They did not even bother to remove an old State Farm tracking device that was still stuck on the windshield from the previous owner. That shows exactly how little effort goes into these cars before they sell them. The overall rating is misleading because it mixes in their auto shop. If you look only at the dealer reviews, you will see the same story repeated: check engine lights, blown engines, hidden rust, false advertising, excuses, and cars breaking down right after purchase. My experience was not unique. It was just the next one in the pattern. If they are willing to sell a car with the check engine light glowing, unsafe tires, and a mechanic who could not even use the diagnostic tool, that tells you everything. Fake smiles. Fake promises. CLEARLY they did not inspect it at all after purchasing it from an auction. In fact, this car had been to auction 3 times and I failed to do a VIN search to find that out until it was too late. My husband, who's stepdad was a mechanic and knows enough about cars himself, checked out the car and test drove it. What we didn't do was have the engine completely inspected. There were no codes or check engine light to alert us that anything was wrong, and we soon figured out it was because they had erased the codes prior to the sale. Not even 20 minutes after we left the dealership, the dashboard lit up. I should've just taken it back then and saved myself $2400. The timing chain had to be replaced along with some other stuff and our mechanic discovered the oil was caked on the inside of the engine in a way that suggested severe neglect. The owner was difficult to deal with and never once talked to us directly. They said we could trade it in and pay the difference or pay for repairs at a discount. As you can see from other reviews, Berg's prices are ridiculous and frankly they were so shady and dishonest with us that we didn't feel like giving them any more of our money. We got a friend of a friend discount with a mechanic nearby, otherwise we would've been out of a lot more money on this piece of junk. I worked 90 hours of overtime over 5 months to pay for these repairs. Just know that if you go here, you're almost certainly buying an auction car and the codes will have been cleared as well as any other rig job to make it look nice.

Before I seen they broke it, the manager was wanting me to set up another appointment to fix other things on my car. After i seen they broke it I told him "Why would I do that when y'all just BROKE my car" He then says, "Oh, so do you not want us to fix the ignition?" UM YES YALL JUST BROKE IT YOURE GOING TO FIX IT. Idk I just thought a DODGE DEALERSHIP would know a DODGE Chargers key safety feature and not just rip it out of the ignition and leave me with it broken.
