I went to the Mayflower because I was looking for a good cocktail spot in my neighborhood and this is where Yelp directed me. I seriously have no idea how I didn't know about this place. I live in the neighborhood and have probably walked by a zillion times without realizing this was here. Not sure what my bartender's name was but he was utterly delightful. He was super nice (he chatted with me while i was waiting for my friend to arrive) and well informed about the cocktails that he was making. Aside from the Pencillin (scotch. Yes, please.) and the Gin Fizz being delicious I also had a Manhattan that was amazing. Manhattans are my go to drink and finding an establishment that makes a good one is really all it takes to sell me. The space itself is what a real estate broker would probably define as "charming." Because, yeah. It's tiny, but in a super adorable way. I was muttering about how it would probably be a good date spot and the bartender said, "oh yeah. We call that the 'Tinder/OKC corner." And...yep. There were definitely two people in it on a first date from...something like that. Overall, I'm a big fan of the Mayflower. read more

This is a beautiful bar with great vibes and delicious reasonably priced cocktails. However, I do not pay to live in Brooklyn and $11 for a cocktail at a bar with music that is comparable to a Panera Bread or Applebee's in rural Indiana. Not to mention the bartender is too cheap to pay for a subscription to whatever streaming service is playing the Lumineers and Mumford and Sons so we have to hear advertisements every 2 songs. Get it together. You obviously spent lots of money trying to create a special vibe. Don't fall short on such a crucial part of it. read more

Charming and cozy, The Mayflower is a great secret place to meet up for drinks, or to wait for a table at Aita next door. I originally came here for a date and we ended up heading over to Aita for dinner, so we weren't here all night. But the drinks were made very well and the space was imitate without feeling too small. We were there at 9 on a Saturday and there were a handful of people in the bar. Drinks were well priced at $10. Pretty dark lit romantic spot. Nice drink menu and good vibe. This place has potential. But poor service on a recent Saturday night. Bartender chatted with friends for 5 minutes before even looking up to take anyone else's order. Then another 10 minutes to make those drinks and get to us, except she was so inattentive she served someone else who had just walked in first. Since it's a small place with only one bartender I would usually have sympathy but it really wasn't super crowded. Just normal flow but bartender displayed no hustle, no interest, nor apology. Then after waiting a full 20 minutes the drinks were delicious but tiny. Like we were being punished for waiting patiently. For a $17 cocktail, I don't expect a glass of ice filled halfway with my drink. The garnish was hilariously laid on top of the ice. It looked like someone drank half which is just not a good look for a cocktail bar. She said it was in a big glass but the drink was correctly made. Haha. Here's a tip- put it in a smaller glass! There's a right way to tend bar and there's a wrong way. This place seems to have some things going for it and other things not so much. read more

Disaster music situation. Super disappointing. Not sure why I had to listen to ads at a bar with such nice cocktails & vibe. Would've liked to stay but couldn't take another chaotic music choice followed by an ad then silence for 30 seconds then another bad song coming on at a different volume like 10 seconds into it. They have a lovely outdoor space that I made the most of on a crisp autumn evening. They had a nice beer selection and I tried a couple of cocktails. They even had warm cocktails, which I was excited to try. One was called a "mulled wine," but was clearly a spiked apple cider. I enjoyed it nonetheless, but it was clearly not a mulled wine. I don't know why the server insisted it was. I'll happily go again to try the mulled wine. Not to harp on on the incident, but otherwise the place is great the guac I tried was good. read more

Super cute quiet bar next to the same owner's restaurant. The bartenders were perfectly sweet and made a lovely pamplemousse drink.

Some people will rave about all the drinks here, some will talk about the music, the vibe, the restaurant next door. I just have one thing to say. Best negronis in NYC! read more

The Mayflower is very cozy and intimate with seats for only about 20 people but the bartender was so rude it ruined the experience for us. If you're going to be the only bartender in a bar with 4 drinks, you should try to be approachable. Our bartender was anything but approachable or helpful in making the drinks. read more

This should be a quiet and cozy corner to meet for a conversation or first date, nicely decorated and playing old music. But for some reason they have the music CRANKED like it's a rock bar, making conversation difficult. The cocktails are not great, they'd do better just sticking to some classics. read more

I live around the corner and can drink a lot more cheaply at home, but I love going to Mayflower once in awhile just to get out. I am not a big bar fan, but this place is intimate (read tiny) and really quite pretty and relaxing inside. The drinks are well made and I always have a wonderful time here. As some people have written, it really is like a secret hideaway. Not a place for a group. But a great place for a date, or for relaxing with 1 or 2 friends. read more

This is the ideal neighborhood spot for a cocktail and polite conversation. The vibe in the small space is very intimate, with a just-chintzy-enough speakeasy inspiration (dark mood lighting, plush seats, marble bar, 30s/40s soundtrack). We stumbled upon this lovely little bar while walking home last night. They were playing some great old Sam Cooke record and when we walked in we felt like we'd fallen into one of those rarities in New York: an undiscovered gem. Turns out they just opened three weeks ago. The space was pretty inviting: early 20thc vintage feel, wooden floors and tables, upholstered benches, cozy lighting, and a short but appealing list of cocktails. We were sold. I had the Queens Lunch (gin, watermelon, cucumber) which was as refreshing as it gets, and my friend had a drink of peaches and bourbon which was also excellent. The bar is tiny (sits six?) but beautiful, the room is small (seats maybe 20 more) and everything you'd want from a little neighborhood cocktail bar. Drinks were average price (cocktails at wine around $10, beer $6). Its right next to Aita on Waverly, but the word doesn't seem to be out yet. At the risk of letting the cat out of the bag, this is a wonderful spot, and my new favorite bar! read more

Amazing cocktails! I love their ginger peppercorn syrup its so spicy. Went with a friend who had a cold at the time and they mixed her up a virgin cocktail with some of the stuff and I almost ordered one it was so tasty :). Try the Trotsky, its delicious. read more

I like this place a lot, but the music is a real deterrent. It's too loud and totally out of sync with the vibe. Sounds like the bartender just left his iPod on shuffle and didn't have very good taste in music to begin with. read more

I was here for a small get-together for a friend's birthday. The atmosphere was cozy and lovely. The cocktails were great -- my own as well as some trial sips from my friends' choices. Staff were friendly and attentive. So many good things to say, but the best: Since it's small and not noisy, you can actually have a conversation with friends. read more

To all the music naysayers, the music was absolutely fantastic last Saturday night - commercial free, great jazzy alt rock, and some classics mixed in. The drinks were smooth, unique and not overdone, and the service was kind and as quick as cocktails come... and only one person worked the entire speakeasy vibe space. The Mayflower is tiny, warm and not too loud. The cocktails are superb. The bartenders are friendly. The music is great. Judging from the fact that I demand to go there every single time I'm in town, it's most certainly my favorite bar in Brooklyn. Also, my favorite Vieux Carre outside of NOLA. read more
