This review would've been 1 star if not for the fact that Dr. Maycock is a good and thorough optometrist. I have seen him for years and he is always patient and happy to answer questions.
But, I saw Dr. Vallance today and did not have a good experience. I felt as though he rushed me through the appointment. He asked me if I was interested in anti-fatigue lenses and I said I was not. When he gave me his prescription anti-fatigue lenses were indicated on there anyhow. I asked him about it as anti-fatigue is more expensive and he said I could elect not to get them. Now, it is on me to be vigilant to make sure I do not get charged for something I do not want, for something that should not have appeared on my prescription in the first place.
Also, I had mentioned during the appointment that I needed the prescription to get my lenses replaced in my current frames. Not more than five minutes later, Dr. Vallance was pushing me to get new frames. He did not listen to what I wanted to do.
On the bottom of every prescription Maycock Eyecare issues (be it from Dr. Maycock or Dr. Vallance), it says it is only valid for one year. The standard is that is that a prescription is valid for two years.
Recently, Maycock Eyecare has been advertising that they do direct billing. I brought in my plan, and gave the receptionist my details before the appointment. Upon finishing, the receptionist informed me that the claim had been directed to manual adjudication and they were not able to direct bill. I do direct billing for my workplace, and know that if the claim gets sent to manual adjudication, that it will still be paid out, but the issue is that the practice does not know automatically what will be paid. This requires some follow-up with the insurance provider on the part of the receptionist to find out what will be paid. The receptionist told me "they" had told her to void the claim. She made it sound like the insurance company had told her to do it, but this would not ever happen, unless she had made a mistake with the original claim. Then she could correct the mistake and send it through again. So she was not clear who exactly had told her to void it, or why. She told me I would have to send the claim in myself, manually. But she should've been able to send the claim in electronically indicating to pay the subscriber (myself) instead of the practice. During this exchange, I tried to tell her what my plan would cover (as I had checked my coverage details beforehand) and she smirked at me and said that "[they] could not just take my word for it".
Ultimately, my experience at Maycock Eyecare has left me with the impression that this practice will try to squeeze as much money from you as they possibly can. And if you do not comply instantly and shell out your money without question they will treat you like garbage. Furthermore, if Maycock Eyecare intends to offer direct billing, then they should educate their staff on how to do it properly. I know my plan and the adjudication response would've been received immediately if my plan had been entered correctly. read more
