I was unexpectedly back in my hometown for an extended period of time. After a few days, I was like "damn, Matt when you gonna chop this hair off?" I contemplated whether I should wait until I returned home. Eventually, I made the plunge by booking an appointment online. You know you're back in small town when the dude cutting your hair is someone you graduated with back in high school. Literally the same class. To be honest, I didn't even put two and two together at first until Xavier called me out. These masks make it difficult to recognize people! Anwho, Xavier did a great job with my haircut. The man knows what he's doing with a pair of scissors. I felt a few pounds lighter once I stepped out of the chair. Overall, a nice addition to the Stuart area. Wow. I just moved to Stuart and I needed a good place since my hair was getting out of control! I tried MAXx'S after reading the reviews...and it more than lived up to my expectations. The atmosphere and decor is classic and comforting but also had a contemporary feel somehow. The staff was excellent, friendly and helpful. Joanna gave me a haircut and shave and the experience was fantastic! The work was excellent...I'm often on stage and in pictures so the look is important and Joanna hit a home run! I have a guilty pleasure. When I go to New York, which is frequently, I will most often arrange my travel so I can go and get a good old fashioned hot shave before conducting business. So imagine my interest when driving down Colorado a week ago and seeing a (tiny) sign for Maxx's Shaving Room. I had to stop. I mean, a potential hot shave place so close to home? I stopped in and toured Maxx's, and have to say I was quite impressed. This is a gentleman's establishment (I'm sure ladies are welcome, but they cater to men), and turns out they have not only hot shave, but a royal hot shave (with mask), manicure, pedicure, haircut, beard trimming, and massage. I stopped in yesterday afternoon without and appointment, and the nail tech was not there - I think she's there three days a week. So I returned today with an appointment, and I have to say the service (Rita, maybe?) was great. And the manicure was cheaper than the places I've been going, where I feel like a geek being the only man in sight. Next visit - royal shave. Yes, its an indulgence, but I'm going to try it. Only downside - they only take credit cards for purchases over $30. I was lucky to have cash (I never do anymore), and expressed my negative opinion on the policy to the owner, who was very gracious about it. Will definitely return, give it a try! read more

I've had a beard for at least 20yrs. I've always kept it short and well groomed. During the Pandemic, starting in March, I stopped shaving and allowed my beard to grow... Huge ! I was shocked to find that it is very curly, since none of my other hair is, except, well you know. I've been looking for a barber specifically trained in long beards and I've had it trimmed by a few, not to my satisfaction. Finally I called Maxx's and spoke to Kinsley and voiced my concerns that I don't want my beard cut but rather just shaped and manicured. I told her I had pictures of what I want but I need someone who is willing to spend time listening to me. She assured me that all of her barbers are well trained and hand picked based on some of the qualities I mentioned. I agreed to make an appointment and she promised that I would LOVE my haircut and beard trim. Well, It's been a week now and guess what, I LOVE MY HAIRCUT and BEARD TRIM ! Kinsley delivered on everything she promised. The shop was very clean, everyone was friendly and I have found my new permanent barber.
