I've been to this club plenty of times. When I visited Helsinki i spent the last 3 days of the…read moreyear hear listening to my favorite band in the days of Helldone Festival. I rang in the new year here with great friends and my favorite band, doesn't get any better than that. Staff is nice There is an upstairs bar and 2 downstairs bars. They do have a coat check that if I remember correctly is about 2 or 3 euros. It's a pretty small venue/club so for the most part you have a great view of whoever you are seeing. Which is also the biggest downfall, it's crazy hot in there when it's that packed. During new years eve we felt like sardines. Once the front door opens you are walked in to show your ticket, then check in your coat then you are allowed to the area where the bar is at. There are two other large doors that lead to the actual club, but depending on the event they could be open or closed. Upstairs is usually VIP, which is great because you can sit and chill upstairs with the bar up there. This is a staple in Helsinki when you are here and want to experience the awesomeness of Finnish music. Have fun! Happy yelping my amigos

Loved the place because it seemed like a no frills and easy going place. People danced like no one was watching and each room was packed even during the holiday season when everyone was out of town.

Kaarle is probably one of the oldest, if not the oldest night clubs in Helsinki (so the natives…read moresay). It is located in an old building to give a vintage touch to the environment. The entrance is free but the coat check cost around 3€ by cash, and 3.30€ by credit/debit card. The dance floor upstairs is not very huge but big enough to accommodate a few dozens. However, like any other clubs in Helsinki, the dance floor is invaded by drunks after 23:45. They love to hold their drinks on dance floor so watch out for them. Pushing is like a competition as intoxicated fellas have no clue what they are doing once they are drunk enough. Then, there is a significant presence of desperate dudes giving attention to ugly ladies covered in makeup, wonder bras and skimpy clothing (take these ingredients out of the equation and you will see a redundant pile of horrifying protoplasm in reality). So you have probably 45 minutes to enjoy your dance movies. The music is usually quite appalling. Same tracks again and again, and for some reason they play some appalling salsa tracks. Perhaps someone should tell the DJ (if he is really a DJ) that salsa music is not a club music. But hey, most of the dance floor is drunk so who cares. The only positive side of this club is free entrance, as the entry free in other clubs cost around 8€ - 10€ which doesn't include coat check fee.

Apparently the resident permit issued by the Finnish police is not enough to prove that you are about 18 (Im in my mid-twenties, not that I look anywhere near 18 anyway..). He said i need my passport. Luckily I had it, I gave it to him, he analyzed it for like 20 seconds. At this point, I should normally be in. But no, he needed another reason not to let an arab looking guy pass in. And then this magical idea that my Air Max 90 shoes do not fit in. Sadly enough, I saw so many guys with the same shoes going in and out. I said "LOOK! the guy who just got it has very similar shoes". PLUS, it was holloween for god's sake, I mean people were dressed in Gorilla-looking-feet shoes, so dress code was nothing but another funny failure from theirs to support my point. Anyways, I was talking to a wall who clearly decided before hand that I shall NOT party there, because hey who knows, maybe I am carrying a tank full of missiles in my pocket, and I was going to murder everyone. DUH..We just left with signs of incredulity encompassing our innocent-looking figures. But hey, know what? I went to another club and I had an amazing night. So yeah, suck on it.

What to do during a 14-hour layover in Helsinki?…read more Party, obviously! I headed straight to club from the airport. Apollo seemed like a very popular place among locals to party since I met a girl on the airport bus who also had friends that were going, and who ended up going there with me! The 10€ cover charge was annoying, but the venue is huge with separate areas for a lounge, a big dance floor, balcony area, and even a stage. On the Saturday night that I was there, I swore the DJ was playing remixes of Top 40s songs, but I eventually made my way to the stage and discovered that it was actually a live band! (I guess that's why they call it Apollo Live Club...) I would have never guessed it was live music judging by the sound quality. Very impressive; and it made me feel better about the cover seeing that I paid for both a party and a show! Top 40s continued to play after the band was done. The crowd continued to have a great vibe, and I had a great time during my brief stay partying with the Finns! Kippis!

The place is an old theater turned into a night club and has both indoor & outdoor seating. The music at first was a dj playing american music such as pit bull. Around midnight a swedish band came on and played all 80-90's American jams. The drinks were reasonably priced and the crowd was of all shapes and colors - lots of dancing. Overall it's a fun place to come with a group of friends.
