Recently refurbished, they have split the main bar away from the Bistro to allow children to enter and reduce the noise. Good plan! The menu has been overhauled and they don't have as many dishes on the menu as before which is a lot better for the kitchen ensuring quality over quantity. I ordered King Prawns with Calamari, my mom Haggis Fritters and my sister in law Black Pudding in Breadcrumbs with a Chilli Sauce. No complaints. They were tasty and well presented. We then ordered Balmoral Chicken, Fish & Chips and a Chicken Burger. Portions are extremely good for the price, food was cooked fresh to order and of a good quality. There was only 1 staff member within the bistro when I was in looking after 4 tables, which was okay but we did have to wait at times to be served; not her fault though. The dishes are a little expensive for a Bar Bistro in Erskine, but you'd expect to pay more if you dined in Glasgow for the quality and size of the portions. Our bill for 2 courses and numerous drinks for 3 people came to around £56. Not THAT bad when you think of it. All in all, the Whuppity Scourie is much better than it's predecessors and I hope it's hear to stay.

We started with drinks. 2 of us had the Joker ipa and the other 2 had the Magners dark fruits cider. 3 of us had the starter of the special soup of the day which was Cauliflower and blue cheese soup. It was so good that I'm going to have to try making it at home. For main course 2 had the Fish and chips. It was light and crisp. The tartare had capers in it which were delicious. The chips were fresh and actually tasted like potato. The Banana blossom was vegan and at first we thought it was meat. It has almost an artichoke like flavor but looks like shredded chicken. It was fried in the same batter as the chips. The meat eater had the Steak sandwich which they said was very tender. The Chips were in a metal container where they stayed hot even after the sandwich was finished. What they found most impressive was the gravy. He doesn't usually like gravy but smothered the chips in it because it was so good. For dessert we had the pavlova which was delicious. The service was wonderful. Everyone was very attentive. I definitely recommend making a reservation in advance which is easy to do online. Prices were very reasonable. We will definitely try and go back before we head back from vacation.

However, as it's right next to the bus stop on my way home it's a long overdue visit. After walking the 3 minutes from my flat, it was nice to see the 'Dogs welcomed' sign (no, I don't have a dog but it's a good sign for a local pub) and walking in it's a nice space, lots of wood and brick on show. We were given a table and after a quick look at the menu I was heartened to see lots of mention of chorizo! The fare on offer is very much in the burger, pizza and pasta mould but with a few smart twists to make choosing a little more of a challenge. In the end I plumped for the special starter of chorizo, mashed polenta and puy lentils, and it was delicious. The chorizo was the main flavour but worked well with the subtle sweetness of the polenta and the lentils added a nice extra texture underneath everything, the meal was off to a great start. Clare had the black pudding, fried iberico ham and poached egg starter, and not only was it well presented it tasted great (or so I'm told!). Pretty soon after we polished off our starters our pizzas arrived. Stone baked with your own choice of toppings (there are no 'set' pizzas on offer), and my BBQ pulled pork and red onion pizza not only looked great but with a lovely fresh tomato sauce, thin base and a good helping of toppings, the first few bites confirmed what my eyes were telling me. By now I was REALLY regretting not having visited here before now - watching the rack of ribs go past didn't help either, looked great! - and by the time I had finished my pizza I was feeling nicely full, but not stuffed, and enjoyed every bite. Desserts followed, and a wonderful sticky caramel apple tarte tatin, with salted caramel ice cream both appeared promptly and disappeared almost as quickly. A wonderful sweet, caramel sauce, with that kick of bitterness at the edge of the caramel, all sparked with hints of salt from ice cream... deeeelish!! I managed to score some of Clare's dessert, the Chocolate Trio but it was very heavy, although packed full of flavour, but don't think I'd try it next time. Oh yes, there will be a next time. The service was good, the prices look a little on the high side on the menu, but the food was good and overall I was more impressed than I thought I would be. GWR is in a funny location, right next to Gartnavel Hospital and as I said, it doesn't look particularly inviting but if you are in the area, or just passing, it's definitely worth a visit. Even if it's just for a quick drink, there is a good selection of fine ales and a well stocked bar.

Our service was prompt and friendly, and in no short order a variety of food had arrived for us to sample. For me, I'd decided one round of starches wasn't enough, and had some cajun potato skins (NOM) followed by a macaroni main with chips instead of the normal garlic bread (proof that I was thinking with mah belly). The food was delish, and I heard no complaints out of my friends either. The atmosphere was pleasant as well, with a wide variety of clientele, from folk our age, to families with children, and older folk all seemingly comfortable and enjoying themselves. All in all we left Glen Lusset feeling full and satisfied. If you're in the area, or like us, are travelers looking for a meal after some serious dram-age, then certainly give Glen Lusset a go!

The prices were on a par with Frankie and Bennie's, but with more of a British sort of feel to the menu. I opted for Gammon and eggs which was really really good and the missus went all out for a 10oz rib eye steak which was fairly spectacular and cooked to her liking. Good portions as well with enough on the menu to consider coming again. Not cheap, but nothing in Xscape is. A good option for a wee treat on the grills section of the menu in a nice comfy setting with good service. It got hefty busy by the time we left though, out the door just long enough to fix my jacket before they were prepping the table for new customers.

Our Sutherland's review: Sutherland's is like a very bad and very expensive British Home Stores BHS cafe. Walked in and stood at the 'Please Wait to be Seated' sign. Waited for 5 minutes, with staff ignoring us. We walk up to man tending the bar and ask for a table for two, he ignores us. We ask again and he THROWS cutlery/glassware he was washing into the sink in a rage, turns and exclaims "What do you want! Just sit anywhere!" We sit down and a woman mopping the floor marches up to us and says, word-for-word "You're not sitting here. Move to that table" as she points to a table closer to the front door. We move to the other table. In order for staff to have to walk less, and so that it's easier to clean the restaurant, at certain times of the day it seems that Sutherland's packs all their customers like sardines towards the front of the cafe. Maybe they should ask "wouldn't you prefer to eat it in your car" because then they'll have no tables to clean." Nobody has a menu yet, and we have to wait 10 minutes for a server to arrive. A waitress arrives and, without saying anything, stands over us with her pad (no, "what would you like" or anything pleasant like that, just stands and waits.) I say, "Could we have some menus please" and she exhales forcefully, turns and gets us menus that are falling apart at the seems and filthy. Eventually, we place a pretty straightforward order (cheeseburger and chips, roll and sausage) but for some reason it takes about 30 minutes to arrive, despite the fact we are 1 of only 3 other parties in the restaurant. OK, it might be prepared from scratch, but 30 minutes is a joke. The food arrives and it is fairly bland and uninspiring, nothing better than you'd get at McDonalds, except at least McDonalds in Clydebank has been newly decorated and feels stylish/chic - Sutherland's blood-red walls feels like a crypt and for some reason, it has a one-way mirror at the back of the restaurant so that management can monitor the staff and/or customers. Maybe it's so they can call the police if a customer tries to move to another table. Only one member of staff, a younger woman, showed any enthusiasm or efficiency, the bar man and other waiting staff couldn't give a toss. Compare this with Bensons in the East End of Glasgow, and it's a totally different experience. They have a staff member constantly standing at the welcome podium, greeting you as you arrive and giving you a menu too. They have delicious food, and often you see a butcher arrive with fresh meat to the kitchen. The staff are very efficient, and you can sit wherever you choose. The decor is light, airy, modern, and cosy, and the food is cooked fresh, arrives quickly and they are often queued out the door.

I have also noticed that they will cook fritters for you gluten free if you ask. The staff are really friendly and the prices are quite reasonable too. The only reason that this is not a 5 star review is that there is no disabled access to the main restaurant as it is upstairs so bringing my mum here is a no go and i would also like to see a few more items on the gluten free menu.
