Maximo was definitely one of the highlights of our Mexico City trip! Loved the vibes and wine glasses were super unique. We loved the daily menus and the variety. Instead of getting the tasting we got many dishes to share and loved them all. House bread with the roasted eggplant dip was great. The octopus ceviche with mole and guacomole was great too. We especially loved the tempura soft shell crab with a mexican twist / flavor to it. We also really liked the jamon iberico which was a large generous portion. The roasted baby corn that everyone talked about was great though I didn't think this was the highlight of the meal. And lastly the oxtail pappardelle which left us stuffed. Definitely worth visiting and deserving of their 1 star!

Great dinner for our party of 8 for dinner. Overall, the dishes were pretty solid. Main disappointment was the service - kinda felt they were just throwing dishes at us to finish. Drinks were good, ambiance is stunning as the interior is wide grand and spacious. Wouldn't come again for dinner. Lunch, maybe.

I tried this place during my first time visiting Mexico City because it was on all the lists of fine dining restaurants to try. The ambience was very romantic and the service was attentive, definitely worthy of a fancy date night. However, the food was a little disappointing given how highly this place is rated. My husband and I shared two appetizers and two entrées. The entrées impressed, but the apps missed their mark. The octopus "ceviche" consisted of tender octopus but lacked flavor. The stone crab and mole verde "tlayuda" barely had any stone crab at all. But the Wagyu Cross beef tongue and beef cheeks were super tender and full of flavor. They made up for the slightly disappointing apps. The staff was very nice though and even treated us to a glass of Prosecco since we were celebrating our anniversary. I'd still recommend this place for anyone looking for a fine dining experience in Mexico City, but I wouldn't come back considering there are so many new restaurants every day. A la mexicana octopus "ceviche", tostadas and guacamole 7/10 Stone crab and mole verde "tlayuda" 7/10 Beer braised Wagyu Cross beef tongue, homemade mole, beluga lentils, pickled onion 9/10 Red wine braised Wagyu Cross beef cheek, risotto with parmesan 10/10

We went to several incredible Michelin star restaurants during our trip to Mexico City, but, in the end, Maximo was our favorite meal of the whole weekend. The design of the restaurant is such a vibe and the food was really next level. We had a 7:15 reservation on Saturday night and were taken to our booth at the back of the restaurant upon arrival. My husband ordered the espresso martini based on online reviews and I ordered my standard drink, tequila neat. He said that the martini was perfectly made and I was surprised and delighted that my tequila came with a side of fresh homemade sangrita. For food, we ordered a bunch of things to share. Everything looked good but we ended up with the roasted beets, tuna and kampachi sashimi, roasted leeks, tagliatelle with oxtail ragu, sweet potato and ricotta agnolotti, roasted chicken and the filet. I legitimately cannot choose a favorite bite because each dish was as good as the next. For dessert we had the French toast and the truffle ice cream. The only dish I would comfortably say you could pass on is the truffle ice cream. It was creamy and delicious but didn't taste much like truffle. Make a reservation at Máximo asap, I promise you won't regret it!

I have been eating like a king in Mexico City. The food so far has been incredible and I crown Mexico City in the Sunil list of food cities in the top 3. This spot is No.43 Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants 2024 and also made popular by Anthony Bourdain. Another incredible meal, everything we ate looked like a work of art and tasted like ambrosia.

Our favorite meal in Mexico City. So good - as soon as you walk in, the ambiance is incredible and the food matches! Everything was delicious, from the complimentary bread with the super tasty eggplant dip, to the cheesecake for dessert (seriously the best cheesecake I've ever had). We almost went back again the next night just because of how much we enjoyed it. A must-do!!

Maximo wasn't on my radar until a gf made reservations - and it was one of our top meals during our four-night visit to CDMX. The restaurant has a lot of neutral colors with a modern, clean, and earthy design - and plants that makes you feel like you're in an atrium. We went for lunch - I looooove a long and fancy lunch! We started with artisan bread and butter, lunch wines (they don't have rose, but we did find an funky orange wine that was great!). Our table of four was hungry, so we opted for a la carte dining (there is a 9 c-course tasting menu, too), listed in order of my favorites from top to a-okay: + Kampachi and tuna sashimi, soy and ginger vinaigrette, and matcha $670 + Roasted beets, organic apple vinaigrette, Celaya goat cheese $429 + Stone crab and mole verde "tlayuda", shiso guacasalsa $540 + Roasted baby corn, hollandaise, parmesan $594 + Caesar salad, head cheese $540 My dining companions also took part in: + A la mexicana octopus "ceviche", tostadas and guacamole $570 + Wagyu cross beef cheeseburger $640 You can book reservations by OpenTable or phone: https://www.maximobistrot.com.mx/en/reservations/

Because Anthony "Tony" Bourdain raved on and on about this place in the book "World Travel: An Irreverent Guide" published by his long-time assistant Laurie Woolever, I knew I had to go and relive oh-may-he-rest-in-peace-Tony's glory. We also desayuno-ed at Lalo! (Chef Eduardo Garcia Guzman's casual breakfast joint) so we came in with high expectations... luckily Maximo did not disappoint! Upon the long entrance we got to see their well-oiled inner working of a machinery - the kitchen was visible through a giant pane of glass. You could the chefs and sous chef collaborating, carefully crafting each meal together. We got seated in the middle where long padded seats were divided by a row of potted plants. I noticed that the restaurant space was created by adding some curved tin roof with glass enclosure over two sets of walls from neighboring buildings, how clever! The high vaulted ceiling made the place feel grand and lofty, but with landscape tapestry hanging on the walls and softly lit candles the environment could not be more inviting. At first we got nervous when the server only brought over the drink menu but not the food menu. My husband anxiously whispered if we were in for a $$$$$ tasting menu unbeknownst to us? I responded with a wide-eyed shrug. Our fears quickly dissipated once our server returned with our cocktails and the food menu in tow. We commenced with the soft shell crab tempura tlayuda. Very fresh with surprising picante note when we least expected it. And forget the fork and knife our attentive server brought - it was easier to use our hands. Oh and let me tell you about those baby corn dusted with shaved Parmesan in a bed of hollandaise sauce that tasted like roasted butterscotch. Holy cow that suave changed my life forever. I want to dip EVERYTHING in that hollandaise sauce. I want to swim in it. I want to take it home and sleep in it. Or on it. Or drown it. Whichever takes place first. Next came the tagliatelle with oxtail sauce which was deep and umami. My husband also ordered the Wagyu burger and damn it worried every pretty penny. The burger meat was grilled to medium rare and then layered with thin slices of pickled onion, lettuce, and oozing cheese, then sandwiched between a pair of beautifully toasted pretzel buns. The texture and the mouthfeels lit up parts of my brain I didn't know existed. The mashed potato side dish was a surprise hit too. Wow wow wee wow, how in the world do they not have a Michelin Star? My snotty I've-been-to-a-3-Michelin-starred-restaurant-in-Paris husband thought Maximo ought to deserve one. Excellent service and everyone there spoke better English than our broken Dora-the-explorer Spanish. Dress up or dress down, this place welcomes all. Bravo Lalo!

Reservations recommended for all fine dine in CDMX and this one is no exception. You'd see literally no spots if you book a week prior. We made one for the opening afternoon slot. This was our first dining experience in cdmx. They opened a bit later and were also a bit disorganized. Food takes a bit to come. Apart from this, everything else was positive. The space is vibey yet bright. Located by the main street. They've a la carte and a tasting menu. We tried two beverages and two appetizers only. The scallop ceviche was mind altering because I never could have imagined liking scallops that too raw! The baby corn dish made my babycorn hating partner fall in love with the veg. I wish we had time to go in for an entire experience but highly recommend. Maybe go in for not the opening spots but a bit after (1.30 pm or 7pm).

It was not bad but feel like those hyped up tourist spot. Mostly tourist. Good but also very European, may not be a necessary stop for those who's only here for a short time. Tried the Octopus Ceviche because everyone raved about it but it was okay, not the freshest, but braised well so it's tender. Softshell Crab Tlayuda took a while but very good, love it. Cocktails were just fine, on the lighter side. Maybe stick with wine?

Hands down the best restaurant in mexico city! I fear i might book a flight once just to go back to Maximo. The staff were helpful and attentive. We tried to order light but the menu was so promising that we caved and once again ordered too much- a sacrifice I'll gladly make over and over again! i love their plates and decor, everything was so clean. Now lets get to the best part, the food: we ordered a la mexicana octopus "ceviche", penshell scallops aguachiles, roasted baby corn and the wood grilled wagyu cross beef burger! honestly all the plates are unique and bursting in flavors.

Excellent, fine dining French Mexican meal in a beautiful, open, and intimate low-lit setting. We opted to order off the a-la-carte menu, and most memorable for our table were the gooseneck barnicles "aguachile" appetizer (we've never seen barnicles on a menu before, and they were deliciously prepared) and the seared red snapper entree, which was delicately cooked with a fantastic bouillabaisse sauce. For desserts, we tried the unique goat cheese ice cream with phyllo, guava, and olive oil. If you're not a fan of strong goat cheese flavor, you may want to skip this one. It's an interesting combination of savory, sweet, creamy, and crunchy flavors, but my group was divided on whether they liked it or not. Our server was lovely - he primarily only spoke Spanish but still tried his best to communicate with us in English. When our meal was winding down, he recommended different types of tequila and we chose one of his recommendations. Unfortunately as the staff was clearing away plates, my husband accidentally spilled his tequila over as he was picking up a dish. I was just slightly hoping the server would offer us a bit of tequila again (knowing that it was an accident when cleaning up), but they did not. We know it was our fault, but just a bummer that almost the entire tequila was spilled.

Simply Amazing! We came with a party of 8, so chef Eduardo said that since the kitchen is so small we have to share plates and eat what he served us, rather than order off the menu. Some people may be put off by this, but my friends and I had heard great things on Anthony Bourdain's show, so this element of surprise made it even more exciting! Plate after plate of incredibly fresh, tasty & tender creations filled the table, including 4 desserts and lots of wine - and for ~$60 pp, it was well worth it. I don't usually like octopus, but loved the way it was made here. The service was good, although a couple friends had to wait longer for mixed drinks. What a fun dinner, I highly recommend Maximo! read more

This was our first dinner in Mexico City and it was absolutely amazing! We started with a mezcal and fresh strawberry cocktail. Our dinner consisted of about six courses including the ceviche tostadas and filet Mignon. The level of service far surpassed any five star restaurant in New York, Los Angeles or London. I highly recommend this experience to everyone. read more

Attentive service. All dishes were excellent and would have each again. Drinks were very well made. We had the sea bass with cauliflower in artichoke sauce and the tagliatelle with crab. We booked in advance and seems wise to do so as was full at 3pm when we were there. On the expensive side for cdmx read more

This is a cute bistro, nice atmosphere and great drink menu. The service was off, hence three stars, but the food was fun. We were a group of 6 and had soup, 5 appetizers, and 7 entrees (in order to try a full variety). The service: our meal was like a sprint. Appetizers were whisked out and then, before we could finish our soup (or appetizers), the mains started coming out. Poor timing by servers and the kitchen. We felt like we were shoveling our food. The waiter immediately brought dessert menus, as well, making the meal feel rushed. Very unfortunate. The house charcuterie was delicious and the soup had a nice truffle oil complement. The burrata and asparagus were ok. The house green salad was lovely. Our aperitifs were very nice: everything from champagne cocktails to a full gin and tonic assortment. The house-made sodas were not exceptional and lacked distinct flavor. The snapper was an excellent entree, as was the suckling pig--both had nice and spicy sauce/salsa complements. Chicken was solid, as well, though not quite as refined. Risotto and vegetarian celery root were both forgettable. Worth a try, but I might recommend ordering one course at a time to better control the pace. read more

I'm totally charmed by this place and will be back next time I'm in CDMX. It has such a clean comfortable casual feeling. The server was perfect. He provided a pleasant introduction, a quick discussion from the menu and sort of disappeared in the background, gliding in and out periodically not distracting me from the most important part of my experience, my date! [He was like a classically trained New York professional waiter] The food was off the hook. Let the wine flow and don't skip dessert! read more

When we arrived, the waiter only offered one dinner menu for the table. When we asked for another, it took ten minutes for him to bring one. During the meal we told the waiter we wanted to share a dish, but he refused to put the order on two plates. For desert, we were once again only given one menu. The waiter took the order from the one person who had a menu and then left with the only menu. We asked for another desert menu but the waiter would not give us one, so I was unable to order desert. I will never return to this restaurant! read more

The staff has an attitude problem. The hostess was very unwelcoming and our waiter was very rude, almost as if we inconvenienced them just for being there. We left after ordering our drinks--no food is worth that kind of treatment. This is my first and only review because I've never had this bad of an experience at a restaurant. read more

We were very happy to have an evening out at Maximo's. The place is a nice, small, neighborhood restaurant in Roma Norte. The service is excellent, the wine selection is great and the food was very well done. We would highly recommend this place. The mussels and the raw fish were our favorite dishes. The pasta was good but not anything that stood out. We are both foodies from Los Angeles and weren't wow'ed by any of the dishes but were very happy with our meal and would recommend this place. You definitely need reservations and I would definitely return on my next trip to D.F. They are also on OpenTable which makes reserving easy. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Maximo Bistrot Local. The food was excellent. The beets were excellent, I loved the tuna, the artichoke was just ok, and the chilean seabass was excellent. Let's get past any distractions: yes, you'll be seated outside if the interior is full. Yes, there's traffic on Tonala & Zacatecas. I would sit on the Angel of Independence for food like this. My wife started with the Jerusalem artichoke soup, said it was the best ever. I had the scallop ceviche, a perfect balance of sweet and acidic, with grapes and celery (?). The marinade was the best soup I've had in memory. Entrees were simple and superb: house-made fettuccini with pork rib ragu, the meat fork-tender, moist and flavorful, and perfectly roasted chicken with mole negro and mole Verde, accompanied by clouds of white bean puree. I hoped that time would slow down and stop in order to savor the perfection of that dish. As good a dining experience as I've ever had anywhere. Would go back tomorrow and every day thereafter. read more

Had dinner here last night with my parents and we loved it. As one previous reviewer mentioned, it's a bit dark, so if you're older, have eyesight issues, or don't want to squint, be prepared to hold your menu close to the candle on your table to read it. It's very pretty and atmospheric, with sidewalk seating in addition to a small inside space. Feels like a restaurant in the west village somewhere. Located in a lovely neighborhood. Our service was attentive, helpful, and kind. The food was top notch. We had the baby lettuce salad - way larger than expected, certainly shareable by three people. For main dishes, we ordered the organic chicken breast (with a delicious crispy skin), the duck breast with vanilla gastrique and organic carrot (also really nice) and my personal favorite, the flat iron steak. I asked for it rare and that's what I got, which is always nice (sometimes restaurants don't quite believe you when you ask for something rare!). Also, they were happy to call us a cab to take us back to the hotel after the meal, which was nice since we weren't staying anywhere close. We made our reservation well in advance, which I would recommend, since you can do so easily online. All in all, a great experience. read more

Such high hopes tragically turned to painful dissapointment. My girlfriend and I just got back from our long awaited, hard earned and well deserved vacation to Mexico City. After weeks of research and planning Maximo Bistro clearly became our number one restaurant to try in Mexico City. We couldn't wait, we couldn't get a reservation either but that wouldn't stop us from having our Maximo Bistro moment! We went to the restaurant on the late side during our second night in Mexico and added our name to the list. They told us it would be about an hour and we waited about an hour. Greatest part about this was that they have an amazing lounge to hang out in while you wait for your table. There's a little bar up there with a few appetizers available. It was a really nice set up. After enjoying the hour long wait we finally got our table and it was probably the best table in the house! It was almost too good to be true. We were so pumped, hungry and just ready to eat good food. We each ordered our entree, I got the quail and mashed potatoes and my lady got the risotto. Both were delicious! The best dish we had though was this amazing looking fava bean salad with a bunch of different lettuces and an incredible dressing. We shared the salad and it tasted excellent. The night was great and we went home with big smiles on our faces. BUT... YEAH... THERES MUCH MORE TO THIS EXPERIENCE. I'll spare you the details in what is actually a pretty incredible story and sum it up for you in one short sentence. We then spent the next three days straight fighting over the toilet and our entire vacation was ruined. Literally. Our romantic Mexico getaway turned into a 72 hour toilet triathlon. We were unable and even more unwilling to eat anything let alone leave the tiny Airbnb we had rented for a distance of more than 300 yards. It was probably the worst three days of our relationship. Actually no, drop the probably part, it was. Did I leave out the excruciating cramps occurring on a cycle every 30-40 minutes? For 60 hours straight. Yeah, good times. For being the "best restaurant in Mexico City" we obviously expected a higher standard of preparation. Yes we were aware that drinking water from the faucet or having ice in a drink was not advisable for visitors. We have traveled to Mexico three times now and we are well aware of the bacteria in the water that's a killer for non residents. Plain and simple, without question it was the Fava bean salad we shared that destroyed our insides and made my girlfriend cry 18 hours later. It was the only dish we shared since landing at the airport 48 hours earlier. We were both eating packaged mixed nuts, granola bars and drinking bottled water earlier that day while at Teotihuacan so there is really no other explanation. We got food poisoning from Maximo Bistro. I know... It's sad as hell. I would say you stabbed me in the heart Maximo Bistro but my intestinal track would be insulted so I won't. If I'm paying that much for food I expect a higher standard than the local taco cart down the street with the flat wheel and a broken canopy. Unfortunately that was not the case. I don't see why a restaurant of that caliber and reputation can't have a water filtration system in house that would prevent any patrons whether locals or visitors from spending the next 3 days in hell. No matter where you're from you should be able to eat anything on the menu, otherwise what's the point? Sadly my grade for you is an F. Actually, I'll be nice and give you a D- because of the warm ambiance and waiting area. Still feeling the lingering affects of that night today. Not cool. read more

Went last night with some friends to find out what all the hype was about. The friends are Mexican and, since i paid the bill, they were VERY happy with their meal. You live in Mexico long enough and you start to get used to paying a lot of money for rather crummy non-Mexican food. This place does an adequate job with decently fresh ingredients producing versions of classic bistro menu items (at twice the bistro price). My asparagus appetizer (oddly enough white and very fibrous) desperately needed salt. All the dished were under salted, instead we all got copious amounts of parmesan shredded on top of every dish. And the occasional random dash of truffle oil. The white chocolate cream with bananas desert was 12 steps beyond divine, and sort of saved my meal. The wine list is quite limited and *ojo* the Spanish wines are significantly cheaper and better quality than the Mexican ones listed. Doubt I will return until someone else is picking up the bill... read more

We visited Maximo for a wonderful long lunch while in DF. Great way to spend our last afternoon in the city. Everything we had was wonderful and its location in Roma is perfect for a stroll after your meal. Prices will rival $USD, but worth if if you want a treat. They have a great wine/cocktail selection. We tried the beet salad, asparagus salad with hollandaise and poached egg, bolognese pasta, tri tip steak and lemon pie for dessert. Everything was delicious! The service is excellent - definitely will be back! They also own Lalo down the block which unfortunately was closed twice when we tried to visit. Both spots are highly recommended! read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Mexico City. The chef/owner is extremely talented. He takes indigenous ingredients, and creates a dish that is full of flavor and unique. I have tried nearly every dish on the menu and everything has been excellent. Eduardo previously cooked at Pujol and at Le Bernardin. It is no wonder why his seafood is absolutely stunning. His ceviches, sashimi's and entree fish plates are incredible. Also his Mussels are in probably the best broth that I have had including in SF and in Paris. Gaby, his wife and Oscar run the front side and make the dinning experience that much more enjoyable. The wait staff is very friendly and very well trained. They recently opened a wine bar upstairs to handle the overflow. It has a nice comfortable feel to it. Their wine list is very deep and contains both excellent Mexican wines as well as key imports such as Ch. Y'Quem. They are going to open a new restaurant directly across the street that will serve breakfast and lunch. I can't wait to try Eduardo's creations! I typically bring my own wine which they don't mind and I usually serve Eduardo a nice full glass which he kindly reciprocates with some incredible dishes not on the menu. I almost forgot the dessert. The carrot cake is awesome as is the cheesecake. I probably have eaten there over 20 times and not once I have been disappointed with any dish nor with the service. This is truly one of the shinning stars on the Mexican restaurant scene. read more

By far our favorite restaurant in Mexico City. Delicious cocktails, wine and shared plates. Food is OK, service is dreadful. I was diligent and reserved a table in advance because I heard they are hard to get, when I called they only gave me the option to go at a certain hour because before and after they were fully booked, Ha! The place was pretty empty, maybe a couple of occupied tables inside. We ate outside and although the street is noisy, it was nice. I used their facilities to wash my hands and they are located right by the kitchen, disgusting! The chef was having a "Gordon Ramsay" talk with his staff, it looks like they are "slow and not too careful with the orders". I am a witness to that! Our order got mixed up with the table next to us and instead of correcting right away when the couple told them they did not order the dish, their response was "It's on the house", unfortunately that was my dish and I had to wait another 30 min for it. When we confronted the server, he denied the mixup and told us "If you were in a hurry you should have told us!" The fun part of eating there was witnessing a shouting match between neighbors for a parking space right next to us (free entertainment!). It is a shame that a nice little restaurant, with decent food has such subpar service. NEVER again! read more
