I managed to find a kind soul I knew who could house my car overnight so I could return the next day to try and fix the problem. I phoned Bob Jane on Flinders Street as it was just around the corner from where I was parked in the CBD, and they said I could easily bring the spare tyre in to check whether it had a puncture and get it blown up. Lifesavers. I popped in to BJA on my lunch break and the guys took my tyre straight away, pumped it up and dunked it underwater to check for leaks. They said 'no leaks!' and I was on my way, all within about 10 minutes. The service provided was friendly, super quick, and they didn't charge me anything either! Will happily return to BJA for future tyre issues/changes when required, but for now I will just try to stop driving over large screws!

Personally, I'm a die hard Yokohama fan, and I appreciate that they don't try and sway me to another brand when I know what I want on my car. I've recommended family and friends to them, and everyone has had the same brilliant standard of service from them - yes, tyres, auto service and the like is a competitive field, but these guys go out of their way to do it right - it actually feels like they're happy to be helping you with your car, kudo's to the owner for generating the right atmosphere. Really good service, a huge range of tyres and willing to get in anything you're after - and the best prices I've found despite my tendency to shop around for every last cent on purchases like this - what more could you ask for?

I think it's the fear that my lack of knowledge will mean being taking for a ride by someone that sees me as an easy target. I knew my tyres were bad when someone commented on them while at a petrol station. I smiled politely and mentally put 'tyre' higher up on my To Do list. I went to a tyre shop near work (referred by a male friend) but they quote seemed excessively high and I had the distinct feeling I was being sold bigger and better than required for a little hatchback that did 10,000kms each year on the city streets. I then drove to a tyre shop near home for a second opinion. I drive past this shop every other day and it felt vaguely familiar. I crossed my fingers and ventured inside the modern waiting area. Yes, I needed four new tyres and they needed to be ordered in as my Toyota Corolla (the most popular car on the road) needed a a special size or something. Despite my scepticism, I got them for a really great price and the service was great. They even offered me a free check up down the track. All in all, a good experience and I'll definitely be back (but not until another stranger points it out).

Pulse has been good to me for a number of years, and they have been very kind to my unimpressive bank account. Every time something has gone wrong and I have needed new parts etc. They have come in waaaaay under dealer (and other auto repairers) estimates and they have always got the job done super quick. Their speciality used to be vehicle electronics, and it still is, though they are equally as good with all parts of your mechanised transportation module. The other good part is they are located across the road from the Alma, and no, 9:00 in the morning is not to early for a beer! Give them a buzz to book your car in.

I thought that it was problem with the balance of the wheel and had wanted to send it for balancing, however couldn't find the time to travel all the way into the city to go to my usual place to get it checked out. I found Bridgestone Select right around the corner and I thought I'd give them a try. Inside their office, you can sit down, have a drink or read a magazine until someone has time to attend to you. Anyway, the more relevant part of this review is the service I received for the car which by all aspects was great. I basically told them what I thought the problem was, gave them my keys and left. The man was very friendly and called me up later in the day to tell me that they had found the real problem which was the dent in the rim. I was expecting them to rip me off with labor costs, but no, they were very professional and got the problem fixed within the day which made me very happy. There really isn't much to comment, except that I was happy with the efficient and to the point service they provided me. That's the way I feel it should be done, and that's the way I like it.

So after phoning all the big names or some tyres and the prices being very uncompetitive and having…read morepushy salesman on the phones, I remembered this place i drive past regularly on South Rd. I phoned them at 8am and was back home, tyres fitted, 30 mins later. When I rang they informed but not pushy, I told the man exactly what I wanted and was given a price that was good. He didn't try and sell me anything else or extras which I liked. When I got there they were friendly and my car was taken straight away while I waited in the seated area. The job was done quickly as promised and I left pleased! This place was cheaper then the big boys, not by a lot of $$ but enough to make me go back there again!

He had never been to Singapore but he did talk about my hometown and asked me many questions , the most friendly and engaging exchange! He seemed like he genuinely wanted to get to know me (people) better : ) Best service, and very tidy station. I went there to pick up some pads ($6.35) and happened to get a sandwich ($5) and some Red Rock Deli chips in Honey Soy Chicken ($3.80) (a favourite, guilty pleasure of mine) at 9:30PM. What a time to get chips. This was on a windy night in Adelaide when all seemed to be coated in an obvious sheet of darkness. The area between Brougham Place and O'Connel street seemed vaster than the sum of its parts, and the wind howled through the parkland. Below the crescent moon, alight in the sky against the backdrop of azure blue violet clouds, against this backdrop stood Caltex shop, at first, ambiguous, but later, heart-warming. The building was seen just below this serendipitous view. And after about 10 minutes of pumping my bike tires at their free air pump outside, in the pitch black of the night, the only light coming from a car not 10 meters in front of me and the Caltex shop, the warm service man's gesture and conversation was a welcome rest for me. Free from the pain of the period that started that day, the wondrous and loving encounter with this stranger warmed me to my soul, as he said, with genuine emphasis: "Please, come back here!" On a cold day, this still resonates to the very bottomless pit of my dark heart, the very bottom of my bottomless heart. I felt, in that moment the exchange of human gesture and kindness, and yes, although there was no one else in the shop, the conversation reached all corners of that large space, and never leaves me, even as I ride back on my bike, with the goods, and the memory of a loving moment with a "strange" person who decided not to be 'strange' to a 'strange' girl (uni-student) in a green T-shirt. And THAT'S why I'm giving Caltex 5-stars for the most amazing user-experience I have ever had to date. (Also, unlike other service stations, the aisles are not crowded with so much stuff that you can't see 2 feet in front of you, and there is a broad and very neat array of things in the aisle, products are good, I couldn't be happier). Also, when I needed them, THEY WERE OPEN!
